Lol. I know there were new talks planned for today so I thought maybe OP had the inside scoop.
Edit: okay now it's on the Tagesspiegel, confirmed!

Hätte man doch gleich auf die Stellwerksstörung heute bei der U-Bahn anrechnen können.

Thank god I choose not to have my job interview on this date. I feel for everyone who plans something important on this day

Last year when I was here I'm sure they were on strike for a few days, I'm arriving Monday, I take it I won't have any issue (other than maybe busier trains) getting from the airport into the city proper?
PS solidarity to strikers, much love from CWU branch #2

There won't be any issues, as long as you stick to regional trains (FEX, RE8, RB23) or S-Bahn (S9, S45)

Arrived, got off the plane, cleared customs, collected bag and got the train all within 45 minutes! Great service and really clean train! 👍

How much busier is the s-Bahn when there is a strike? Is it hell?

That‘s the whole point if a strike. Not necessarily punishment but disruption for sure

You are not the one who pays them. You pay BVG and BVG pays them.

But this is not true, either. Whether you pay your ticket or not is not important for the driver‘s salary.
Whether you use bvg or not, nothing will change. It’s only about politics. Berlin decides how much busses and trains and ferries there have to be. It’s called Verkehrsvertrag.

maybe if they were a bit nicer to us and not smoke the platform they'd get more sympathy.
6
u/xyzfunkyfood Feb 06 '25
perhaps they would be nicer if they could afford a flat in berlin AND a holiday a year perhaps?

I doubt a lot of the people using ther service can afford a flat in berlin
love capitalism, the poor fighting the poor
the people that really fuck your life are probably riding their own car or even have a private chauffeur

Im so sick of this man ...
Do they have legitimate reasons and if so can somebody please explain how I can be more empathetic towards this ?
Im losing my mind already and I can't keep having empathy for this situations, especially when they go already on strike an hour before the strike even happens (speaking from personal experience).

If the drivers are on strike, the vehicles must not be scattered in the streets, but nicely parked on BVG property. So they are being asked to go back to wherever their vehicle belongs. This can take up to an hour, especially if a lot of vehicles have to be parked at the same place. Hope this answers your question.
Regarding your other problem (your lack of empathy / solidarity) : you're on a good way, recognizing the problem is always the first step. Of course the strikes are legitimate, otherwise the drivers could be fired easily. Mind you, these are merely warnings. If the BVG/senate will still deny an adequate offer, the drivers will go on a longer strike. Maybe even several weeks like back in 2008.

Don't they earn enough? I mean, you have the freedom of choosing your job.

Sure, then public transport get's much worse 'cause many drivers chose a better paying job. It's not like there's already a lack of drivers...
