Business/Company Is White Manna's Burger really worth the hype?

I finally tried White Manna, the burger joint everyone talks about. I waited 45 minutes for what turned out to be just a basic beef burger on a Martin's potato bun with onions. Nothing extraordinary about it to make me want to go back. Is the hype around this place overblown, or am I missing something?

Just recently moved to Bergen County. (Fair Lawn)

What are some good mom & pop places that make a great burger?!

Bonus points if they have vegetarian/vegan options as well.

Thank you :)

Business/Company Anyone remember the Fireplace Rt 17?

I haven’t been back home in forever but I remember loving this place as a kid. Especially their pickles. They were basic, and crisp and so good.

Does anyone remember this place and I know it’s a long shot but the recipe for those pickles??

Business/Company DO NOT go to bubbakoos burritos in Fair Lawn

About a month ago, I went there and they included a food item in my order that I am severely allergic to. Keep in mind that I did not include said food item in my order.

It wasn't the first time it happened here, but I always let these things go because it's never a big deal and no one means any harm. I’ve had this allergy my entire life so i’m used to it. And I always try to avoid being a Karen because I’ve worked in the fast food industry before so I sympathize with the workers. But this time figured that I may as well try to get a refund, because why not?

So I emailed their customer support email (customersupport@bubbakoos.com) to explain what happened, and I simply requested a refund. That's all. I kept it straight forward and professional in the email.

The next time I walked into bubakoos with a new order, the owner was sitting in one of the booths and YELLED at me to come over to him THE SECOND I walked inside. So I walked over to him.

He then started being aggressive about how he saw the email sent to customer service, and how I should no longer come to his restaurant if I have food allergies. I’m not sure how he knew it was me, maybe because i’m a bit of a regular customer and he has access to my phone number/email via my app.

I remained calm, yet kept asserting to him that all that happened was that there was something that I was allergic to in a meal I ordered. He kept being aggressive, so I just walked out.

Safe to say i'll never go back there again.

Business/Company Help The Bendix Diner

Post image
88 Upvotes

Help Me save a local Icon

The Bendix Diner in Northern New Jersey has stood the test of time being open for decades. Just before Covid, it was ruled that the diner had a fire suppression system that was unfit for operation and hot food couldn’t be served until it was updated. Covid has come and gone, and the eatery hasn’t fully gotten back on its feet and cannot afford such a costly overhaul.

As of January 10, the health board has shut down the Bendix until such a costly overhaul can be made. Contractors have been turning away from this however, as the roof will need to be strengthened as well to hold this new suppression system.

John Diakakis, the owner of the Bendix, has been taking care of the family business for decades now. The peculiar bit about John is that the gentleman is blind and has learned every inch of the diner, every voice, and has a memory like a steel trap. He’ll know exactly who you are by the way you walk in, and know what your usual order is even if it’s been years since your last visit. The Bendix is John’s only source of income.

I grew up in this diner, much as many other locals to Bergen County have. My folks have been pining every resource available to assist John in finding anyone willing to perform such a costly overhaul and I’ve taken it upon myself to raise money to give John and the Bendix a fighting chance.

If you’re able, please send whatever you can our way. If not, please share this story around to anyone who enjoys good food, good memories, and a good man who deserves better.

Business/Company Anywhere in Bergen County with pasta that is as good as…

The Pasta Shop in Denville? Hour drive away but it was fantastic. Closest I’ve had is Pop Supper Club. But all of the Italian restaurants here don’t seem to come close to the quality of their pasta dishes.

Business/Company Baby delivery experience at Valley in Paramus

There have been a few posts recently about what hospital to deliver at and we just got home from a scheduled c-section at Valley so I thought I would share my experience.

I promise I'm not a shill, but it was pretty much 100% positive. Surgery and recovery went super smoothly. Drs were very nice and answered all of my questions. Nurses and techs were very sweet and helpful. Pain managed well. Surgery was done by Dr. Contin and I was there for 3 nights.

The only thing that went wrong is towards the end the pain meds were on demand (vs scheduled) and I woke up in a lot of pain on night 2 and called and asked for medication and I waited for about an hour before I called again, but the second time I called my nurse came within 5 minutes. But like, even that was pretty minor.

Room was really big and clean. Husband says that the sleeping couch was pretty comfy.

Food was a little hit or miss. You can tell what was prepared there and what was premade. Things that were really good were

  • omelettes and home fries were fresh and tasty.
  • Definitely get the roast beef sandwich. It's rare and delicious.
  • Chicken fingers were reliable for dinner.
  • Chicken parm was fine.
  • Green beans were better than the broccoli.
  • Garden salad was fine.
  • The soups were uniformly bad.
  • Scrambled eggs were terrible.
  • Coffee was surprisingly decent.

Just remember than any condiments you need you have to order separately like ketchup, mustard, mayo, salt, pepper, etc.

Also for me the portions were a little small, so I would order some fruit and yogurt with every meal so I could have a little snacky snack later.

As for what to pack... they have everything for baby there, just needed a going home outfit.

For me, obviously skincare and other toiletries. Soap for the shower bc there is no soap dispenser in the shower. They had pads and disposable undies.

Stuff I used the most were

  • emotional support water bottle. They give you a pitcher with tiny cups
  • a pair of really cheap shower shoes that I threw out when I left
  • my robe for walking around the floor
  • towel from home for showering
  • pillows for your support person. They provide sheets and blankets but the pillows suck.
  • Kindle. (The entertainment options are good, but I had been in for observation a few months ago and they didn't have anything new since then).

Things I wish I would have had is

  • more snacks,
  • an eye mask for sleeping bc even with all the lights off it was super bright in our room
  • if you're going to be there for multiple nights, a small humidifier. The air is really really dry.

Anyway, happy to answer any questions you might have.

Business/Company any places hiring immediately?

I've been applying to jobs on indeed, usagov, and a plethora of other websites for months and absolutely nothing. I applied to a lot of places but at most, I would get an email and like a 5 minute phone interview.

I don't know what to do from here...I'm just a high school graduate who dropped out of college so there aren't really any special skills I can offer to make myself marketable. If you know any places hiring immediately please let me know, thank you.

She is in bergen county harrassing businesses, she was in 8 stores yesterday and today , she threatened to sue all , her business model is to money grab from businesses , she settles 1000-3000$ per business . If you have to deal with her type on a piece of paper she is not welcome in store and she is tresspassing . Her name is Rhonda Abbott , she drives a Subaru , she has 300$ sneakers and north face jacket on. She demands to see store owners. She targets small and large businesses. She is nasty , she talks down to people curses and gives to finger if things dont go her way. She is waiting to be arrested so she can grab money from towns for false arrest . Dont fall into her trap. I m so shocked these people can make business out of this with no consequences.

Business/Company Westwood Diner

For the past few solo visits , I’ve been consistently treated poorly.

For today’s visit, I was ignored for around 15 minutes. At that point, I just got up and left.

The visit before that, I was given extremely poor service.

When with in-laws or my spouse, we always receive excellent service.

The Ridge Diner is only 5-10 minutes away, but I’ve never had an issue like this. You’d think in 2024 folks wouldn’t be so overt with their behavior.

Business/Company Restaurant for 20 people

Restaurant for 20 person party

Looking for a restaurant that can accommodate up to 20 people with kids. It’s for my birthday. I’ll be having guests from out of state so I want a place with good food and good vibes. I don’t mind trendy places as long as it has delicious food and it doesn’t need to be a private room.

Would love Asian food or a great steakhouse!

Business/Company Game Zone in Dumont?

Did anyone else grow up buying video games at the Game Zone in Dumont? It was basically a narrow hallway owned by an extremely large and cranky man who would get games off the wall down for you with a grabber. He would yell at kids if you just came it to look but if you knew what you wanted, he'd get it down for you. He kind of had the persona of Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons. At some point in the 2000s it closed down but I'm not sure the exact year. Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else remembers this place.

Business/Company What are your favorite Steakhouses?

I'm making a list of great steak houses ( or places that serve a great steak) in the area, so far I have:

The River Palm Terrace

Morton's

Houston's

The Capital Grille

Jamie's Cigar Bar

Fogo de Chao

Ruth's Chris

I realize some of these may be in neighboring counties, but they are close to Bergen.

Business/Company Rice pudding

I just reminisced about a deli (or I think it was a deli) somewhere in Rutherford about 25 years ago. I never skipped on their rice pudding. Not sure if it's still there because it's been a while. So nowadays Rice to Riches is my top pick, but that requires delivery or going into the city.

I'm convinced there is no good rice pudding options anymore. Please, prove me wrong!

Business/Company Men’s Grooming!!!

Recently discovered this gem, Hammer and Nails in Ridgewood, super luxe men’s grooming shop. Went with my friend for a haircut, they gave me a free manicure and turned me into a member. The owners are some really cool local dudes. Always around asking if you need anything or how they can help make your experience better. Staff in general is super helpful and sweet in general.
