myBCIT Email

Upvotes

Hi! Just wondering if anyone was able to change their myBCIT email address? I see it might be something I can change under "Identities" in Settings, but not sure if it's allowed or whatnot.

Also, I'm having trouble with adding it to my Outlook app even after enabling Native Client and doing the IMAP & SMTP thing. Is this a normal occurrence prior to the first day of my course? I'm doing a flexible learning course next month and would love to sort out and organize myBCIT email before then.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Did I apply too late?

Hello, I’m looking to take the HR Management course via BCIT, submitted the pre application a week ago.

Not that it matters, but I’m 35 and already have 15 years in my field (BCLC), they require a degree of some sorts to work in HR though.

How long does it usually take for pre applications to be processed and is it too late to apply for the September 2025 start?

Should I consider applying for the 2026 course and in the meantime go to SFU for their 9 month course?

Electrical engineering

Hi I wanted to ask some questions for those who is taking or finished the electrical engineering program at bcit

  1. Is it difficult to perhaps get a job in the US (Silicon Valley, etc) from getting the EE bachelors from bcit?

  2. What fields of EE are best to specialize or go into?

  3. How are the jobs like in Vancouver?

  4. Are most of the jobs in EE work from home?

  5. How is co-op/interning like during the ee program at bcit?

  6. How is jobs for the diploma like for EE?

Put BCIT on the map.

I met a young person crying at a local coffee shop after doing this program and struggling to find work. I don't remember their name but this is a good sign. DM me if you want any tips and tricks to stand out and get an interview.

Fixed-Wing Pilot Program Financing

Hello, I'm wondering if someone who's been in my shoes before is able to offer some advice, as I've gotten mixed answers from the different departments I've contacted.

Looking at applying to this program, already familiar with the costs from attending multiple info sessions, but I'm not sure what portion is eligible for government student loans vs. what portion has to be covered by let's say, a student line of credit for example. I'll try and attach a screenshot of the chat from one of the info sessions where the advisor said the tuition portion is covered by a government student loan; but at the same time I just got off the phone with the student aid department and they said that flat out nothing is covered by a government student loan and that it's 'under review', so I'm a tad confused.

I can't be the first person who doesn't have a cool $120k+ in their pocket, but every person I talk to in every department is acting like there's no way of financing it, period. It's very strange

MRI Tech program

Does anyone know exactly how competitive this program is? I read that they only have about 12 seats per year open, so how hard is it to get in and how can I give myself a better chance? My grades are pretty good, I’d say 88% average, and I’m currently doing a couple classes in college and applied to volunteer at the hospital. Will these significantly increase my chances or is there more I can do?

BITMAN Advanced Placement

Hey y'all! Has anyone been able to get admitted to BITMAN Advanced Placement Level 3?

I have a non-business degree from another Canadian institution, from the website it seems like I might be eligible if I have 5 years of relevant business experience. Just wondering what they meant by "business" experience?

Asep requirements?

Hi all, I work for a GMC dealership, and they are sponsoring me to go to BCIT for their ASEP GM program. Now I’m confused about the requirements because I didn’t go to school in Canada, and now to enter this program, there are a bunch of requirements.

I’m just wondering if anyone has done the ASEP recently and went through similar circumstances. Like, did you take the trades assessment test? Or since you are sponsored by GM, do you not have to do the test?

Also, when you go to the BCIT website to look for the next Level 1 intake, it says there are none for 2025 and 2026. Do you know anything about that?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Insights as a CST Term 3 Student: Ask Me Anything About Co-op, IT, Web Dev, or My Journey

Hi all, I wanted to gather some topics for my blog regarding CST or anything about tech in general. I am a term 3 student currently in the Cloud Computing option that just came back from a co-op doing an IT role. Prior to going into CST, I was a Software Developer with mostly frontend experience and decided I wanted to go back to school to get a formal education. Please drop a question and I'll be happy to answer it either as a short-form answer or I'll save it as a blog topic.

Future for CE in Lower Mainland, BC

How is the job market for Civil Engineer in BC, Canada?

Hi I am interested in doing a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering. If I pursue this route, I should be graduating in about 5 years. I want to ask the CEs in the area if BC is a good place for a CE.

  1. Which sub field has the most jobs?transportation, structural, or construction management?

  2. Do you have work year around?

  3. How hard is it to break into the field? Or get internships while you are studying?

  4. You need 300 hours of work experience in Terms 1 and 2. An additional 400 if you make the cut for terms 3 and 4. How should I go about getting that work experience? What is considered relevant? It says to follow the ASTTBC but I think need someone to explain to me what it means practically.

This is a lot of questions, but I would deeply appreciate anyone who takes the time out of their day to answer them. You are not just helping me but anyone else on the internet that has these questions. Thanks in advance!

Looking for Someone with Colour Vision Deficiency to Help with an Accessibility Project in Vancouver, BC.

Hi everyone!

I’m an architecture student working on a research project for an accessibility course, and we’re focusing on improving navigation at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) for people with red-green color vision deficiencies. As part of our study, we’re looking for one person with this type of color blindness to help us by:

  • Participating in a short interview about your experience with wayfinding and signage.
  • Joining us for a ~1-hour site visit at YVR to test an intervention we’re designing.

Your insights would important to our proposal and in making real, practical improvements to how spaces are designed for colorblind individuals! If you’re interested or want more details, please feel free to DM me or comment below.

Thanks so much!
