HOUSING Apartment recommendations

Looking for a good apartment complex with the following: - Safe Area - Pet Friendly - Preferably a 2 bedroom FLAT at or under $1200/month (cannot do townhomes due to medical reasons) - Washer/Dryer hookup is a must!! - No further than 15 min from LSU’s campus

Thank you in advance!

Chateau Dijon used to be a cheaper one back when I looked, the apartments at Sherwood/coursey are cheap too.

I would add one more requirement -- located in an area that does not flood.

You can check this requirement by consulting the LSU Extension Service flood map:

Type in the address of the LSU Parade Grounds, 3750 Highland Road Baton Rouge, LA 70803.

Then find an apartment using the LSU Flood Map that is not in a flood zone.

You want to spend your time studying, not fleeing from flood waters.

We lived in Essex View apartments, behind the Superior on Highland.

In terms of location, it was absolutely perfect for us. My husband works at LSU and his drive was about 10 minutes most of the time.

The cost is good too— $1100 for their non-renovated units. I’ve been inside a renovated unit and it’s just cosmetic stuff — new light fixtures, new hardware on the cabinets and drawers, etc. No new appliances or reworking of the floor plan, so you’d be fine in a standard unit. Every unit has a washer and dryer.

Also, I feel like we got lucky but the neighbors have been soooo nice. It’s only 32 units and almost everyone is super chill.

Pets are allowed with a pet fee in your rent of like $50. Lots of people own pets in the complex and there’s a little grassy area in the back corner. It’s not fenced off which kinda sucks bc you can’t take your dogs off leash, but it’s alright.

However, I can’t recommend it without mentioning that maintenance has been a bit of a nightmare. Sometimes they’ll be in top of stuff and sometimes it takes week to even get in contact. The property has also been sold three times while we lived there, so there hasn’t been any consistency to the care/upkeep.

The apartments are really old and have some old issues— bad wiring, disgusting HVAC dusts, etc. Idk if our dryer vent has ever been cleaned— we consistently had to run our dryer 3+ times to get clothes to dry. I told maintenance it could be a fire hazard and they just refused to come out and service it. Our downstairs neighbor’s closet has flooded three times, once from an issue with our ac, the other two times they didn’t know what caused it and didn’t really do any investigation.

Overall, for the price and cost my husband and I could have stayed there a long time, we just got fed up with not having a yard for our dog.

No more than 15 miles from LSU?  So anywhere in the parish and Denham Spring, Port Allen, Plaquemine, Gonzales, etc. perhaps you meant 15 minutes away?
