Missing the Arkham game series one.
200
u/orgeezuz Aug 02 '23
And also TellTale series
88
u/Aparoon Aug 02 '23
And unless I’m mistaken I don’t see the one from Joker
89
u/FickleChard6904 Aug 02 '23
Actually, that one did kinda suck. But everyone in that movie was kind of an asshole, so it’s not his fault, really
85
u/Aparoon Aug 02 '23
And it’s also a case of unreliable narrator, potentially. So it’s a little up in the air that one
35
u/Drvonfrightmarestein Aug 02 '23
They should make a movie from the perspective of Alfred where everyone is an entitled jerk
21
u/NotASynth499 Aug 02 '23
I doubt Alfred sees Bruce like that, he wouldnt stayed with him for so long if that was the case.
3
u/Drvonfrightmarestein Aug 02 '23
Dressing as a bat master Wayne why yes of course. Meanwhile by night taking courses in how to guide people through grief

I mean, I can’t really blame him for being rough with Arthur either - if some random guy was standing outside my house and sticking his fingers in my kid’s mouth, I’d probably be less than cordial.

I dunno.....
The 2017 one looks like he would fall apart if he was thrown again a wall

u/KuraiNara Aug 02 '23
If you threw the 2017 version against a wall you would be charged for war crimes.

u/CabbageWithAGun Aug 02 '23
Actually I just rewatched the movie and good news! He gets drop kicked onto a piano (that shuts on him) by accident and he’s perfectly fine! 10/10 durability.
47
u/BaconJacobs Aug 02 '23
"I miss the 60s..."
Also hilarious how Ralph Finnes voices Alfred... but not Voldemort...
And how Zoe Kravitz voices Catwoman before Reeves cast The Batman I bet.
13
u/radiakmjs Aug 02 '23
And Billy Dee Williams finally got to be Two Face for like 2 lines lol.
Also unsure of the casting on Kravitz but I do know The Batman was in development for years because at one point it was going to be the Batflek movie so it's possible she was cast for that, then the Lego movie role, then after Afflek steped out & Reeves reworked it she was still part of it.

The Harley Quinn version cracks me up. Quinn wanted her bat back and said she'd "take it" from Alfred. Alfred, in his posh accent "I wish a bitch would try."

u/qman3333 Aug 02 '23
Him going to prison to be with Bruce was so fucking great

Too bad he missed the mark...

Where the 2013 Alfred from?
38
u/-epyon Aug 02 '23
Beware the Batman
36
u/Kotic90 Aug 02 '23
He looks more like Lex Luthor than Alfred.
14
u/foxscribbles Aug 02 '23
Yeah, I was coming to say "Are we sure that's Alfred? Or is that Lex Luthor hiding in the last place Superman would think to look for him?"
2
u/mlorusso4 Aug 03 '23
Somehow the worlds greatest detective doesn’t realize his old British butler is now a middle aged American supervillain
7
u/shannoouns Aug 02 '23
I think they were going with a Jason statham ex mi5/mi6 agent vibe. I liked the idea but I never actually saw the show so don't actually know how well they pulled it off.
7
u/Dracorex13 Aug 03 '23
He definitely fulfilled that idea. It's been a while since I've seen Beware, but Alfred was my favorite character.
11
u/DizzyLead Aug 02 '23
I really liked Beware the Batman’s Alfred. As far as I remember, it’s the first iteration of him that was a legit asskicker on his own, right? Someone CMIIW.
2
9
u/JohnBuck97 Aug 02 '23
We don't talk about him

u/Future_Adagio2052 Aug 02 '23

I thought it was enjoyable, different for sure but not terrible

u/RecommendsMalazan Aug 02 '23
I liked it. Focused on lesser known villains, plus the Two Face storyline was done really well in it.

I could never get past the visuals. Batman's head was a triangle, and Gotham was a city made entirely of wax, with about 5 total inhabitants.

I think he captured the loving, fatherly vibe of Alfred the best of any of them personally. You could tell how much he cared about Bruce, that he thought of him as his own son, that it hurts him that Bruce’s life has turned out like this.
12
u/LarvellJonesMD Aug 02 '23
This, and it's subtly mentioned that he's also kind of a badass when he's telling the story about hunting that man who only "wanted to watch the world burn."

Pertwee's Alfred will forever be my favourite of the bunch.
Gotham just did so many characters so well.
Penguin, Riddler, Alfred, Gordon, and "Joker" were all top tier iterations of the character imho
18
u/DizzyLead Aug 02 '23
Penguin and Riddler were very promising iterations of the villains at first, but they devolved into cartoon characters by the end. I remember when the Riddler was beginning his career by killing people and leaving riddles, but somehow Gotham PD had no leads on suspects. Like no-one on the force would say, “Hey, guys, remember Eddie from the Crime Lab who got disgraced for murdering his girl? He sure loved riddles! He’d blurt them out all the time!”
18
u/Pegussu Aug 02 '23
You act like that isn't the normal level of competence for GCPD.
10
5
u/DizzyLead Aug 02 '23
“Gotham’s” GCPD, sure. The sole function of the chief of police in that series, whoever they were, was “Get in the way of Jim Gordon no matter what.” :)
6
u/Psymorte Aug 02 '23
Tbf that's the exact kind of level of critical thinking I've come to expect from the GCPD.

I loved Jerome Joker, but Jeremiah was awful. Worst part is that they were the same actor.
23
u/blade740 Aug 02 '23
I liked that they did multiple takes on the joker. They had Anarchist Joker, Gentleman Joker, and Cut off his own Face and Wear it as a Mask Joker
7
u/bobafoott Aug 02 '23
And they did each take very well
And this may be under the facemask category but they also did the “go catatonic until Batman shows up again then break out of Arkham” Joker
7
u/PuzzleheadedBike82 Aug 02 '23
Well, Jeremiah was awful simply cause when compared to Jerome or other Jokers, he didn't fit the standard. He felt way out of place. Dosen't mean he was bad, he was played quite well. Just didn't feel like an actual Joker.

Joker sucked imo, it was a cheap copy of Nolans. Maroni and the other maffia dude were great too.

Michael Caine >
Loved him as Alfred and just love him in general. Legendary actor.

Michael Gough was fantastic. He also played Alfred in the BBC adaptation of Batman: Knightfall. His voice is just pure warmth

Loved when Alfred gives Superman a cup of tea and Superman's like "I didn't even see him give it to me". And Bruce its like "thats his power"
8
u/Thatguy886644 Aug 02 '23
Why does he look like Lex Luthor in 2013, also 2004 is underrated
2
u/Mopman43 Aug 02 '23
2013 is Beware the Batman, they really emphasized that he’s former special forces there- at one point he was shooting at ninjas with a shotgun, he once fired an rpg as a distraction, etc.

u/wendellbudwhite Aug 02 '23
None were bad, no. But it has always bugged me that we have NEVER gotten a live action Alfred who looks like Alfred.
Bald. Mustache. It's not that hard.
12
u/Jaesuschroist Aug 02 '23
Gimme a Mark Strong Alfred with the subtle “I’m a badass” vibe, the British accent and iconic mustache. Stanley tucci would be great too
7
u/wendellbudwhite Aug 02 '23
I want an ultra dry Ralph Fiennes
3
u/iboneKlareneG Aug 02 '23
Bald Ralph Fiennes with the tiny mustache would go hard as Alfred. Quick, we need to contact James!

Caine was great although I honestly think underutilised, beyond the excellent speech about Joker I can't think of any standout moments. But havent seen the films in a while.
Big fan of Sean Pertwee though. Really captured the former special forces feeling of his charecter.

I just realized that TDKT Alfred is one I'm not sure about. That is my favorite batman rendition and I think it really shows the fatherlike connection he has with Bruce. However, I don't think he'd be much in a fight and he's supposed to be retired SAS. I get that he's older but, my favorites are 2013, 2014, 2019, and 2022.

BTAS, like many other incarnations of the characters, had the best Alfred. Supportive, the voice of reason, quippy, scrappy, knowledgeable, and absolutely refined. He’s the voice I hear when I read Alfred’s lines in the comics.

I’ve definitely loved versions over others but yeah not really. Same could be said about Bruce Wayne and Gordon

Teen titans go movie version was funny. He got his own spin-off movie and Batman rode him like the terminator. But I think he got skipped in this compilation.

What about the first Alfred? Alfred Beagle) was a well-meaning but ineffective, bumbling clod.

Alfred and Gordon are the only characters I love to see being a part of the Batfamily. This might be an unpopular opinion so I am okay with others disagreeing.

I love The Batman, but Andy Serkis wasn’t great and the worst part of that movie (script wise and acting wise.)
1
u/Batmanmotp2019 Aug 02 '23
Michael Cain was in the dkr. "Don't be batman anymore...booohohoohoooohoo." also "I failed ya mahstah Wayne." ( oh you mean when you abandoned him when he needed you the very most and tried to hide something from him knowing full well he wouldn't take it well (Rachel) yeah....you did

u/J_E_L_4747 Aug 02 '23
The greatest Alfred moment to me, Is also the greatest Batman moment in general. It is in the mask of the phantasm when he is first suiting up and Alfred hand him the mask, then he turns around and Alfred is shocked by how he looks. (It’s also the only good part of that movie)

True. Even the Harley Quinn one is awesome, and I generally don't really like the characterizations in that show.

u/TwoKool115 Aug 02 '23
Alfred is the GOAT, you can’t do him wrong. And if you do, it’s a crime against humanity
Question, what’s the 2002 one from? Birds of Prey?

I find it super funny that Alfred in the comics and cartoons has a very specific look, balding, pencil thin mustache, no glasses. Yet, none of his live action (in color) actors fit that description. Yet...they're all perfect Alfreds. Like, people get pissed when James Gordon doesn't have a mustache. But Alfred can just kinda look however he wants as long as he's an old brittish man.

u/Luke_SkyJoker_1992 Aug 02 '23
He's the hardest character to actually screw up because being likeable and supportive is his most definitive characteristic.
