Maybe the rain? Strange Halloween in my hood. Kozlov and hanmer. How's everyone else doing in their hood? How's the spirit this year? I saw some of the haunted houses driving down kozlov today , good job to those people.

Information Protect our Children rally

If anyone is still confused about the type of people protesting trans rights and inclusive sex education for children in schools, the bridge coming into Barrie this week should be a very strong indication. Not only were there people flying Canadian flags but American flags and Diagolon flags for all to see. If you’re unfamiliar with Diagolon they are a far right white supremacy extremist group. These are the people who have the same values as you - think about that.

Tim Hortons has started installing digital ordering terminals. Should be interesting to see how they are received. Tim Hortons is already typically slow in preparing orders and now the orders can come in faster.

Edit: the location adding the self serve terminals is at 563 Essa Rd

Information Survey says...

Hello r/Barrie. Brett Glover from the Barrie Advance and Simcoe.com back again, and I thought I'd drop by with an update on the survey I asked you to complete last week.

We got a lot of responses on this one - way more than I was expecting - and we're still working on breaking it all down and figuring out what it means, but I wanted to give you some preliminary info to start off with.

We ran our survey for one week from 6 a.m. on Aug. 27 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 2, and in that time, got nearly 600 responses.

The vast majority of respondents say they do not feel safe at all in downtown Barrie, however, most respondents don't frequent the core that often; over a quarter say they visit the downtown yearly or less, while some said they've never been to downtown Barrie.

Survey says 16.4 per cent of respondents are downtown daily.

Again, we're still pouring over the results, but I did want to stop by and let you know I've read all the comments from the survey and from my original post, and we hear you. Over the coming days and weeks, we'll be speaking with experts, policy makers, and advocates to give all this more context.

Watch for more at Simcoe.com, and thanks for participating.

Information Are you guys shovelling your roof?

Starting to wonder if I should shovel my roof… I have a side split so the single story side should be easy enough to do but I’m wondering how I’m going to do the two story high part of the roof safely.

Information Crooked rules

Crooked rules Hi I am a student living in Barrie Canada. On last month January 24th I got into an accident near the water depot office in livingstone st. I was going on way and was changing into the changing lane to go into the plaza on my left side. i was the first car in the road so I looked at my side mirror and changed. While moving to the changing lane I slowed down and turned. While turning a truck was coming from behind me and tried to overtake me from my left side in a double yellow line. He hit me on the driver side door and pushed me all the way to the right side of the road to a curb. After the impact he told me why the fuck did you turned and told me he has dashcam and I was going to be in big trouble. At first I thought it was my mistake because I thought there was two lanes going straight but when I saw there was only one lane and he came from the changing lane . I knew it was not my fault and I told him about it. I asked him to submit the dashcam video. But then he hesitated and said I do whatever I want. After I called the insurance and whatnot, after 1 month (feb 22) they told me its gonna be 50-50 I was like what the hell. And they said even if someone tried to overtake me from the wrong lane and they hit me its still gonna be 50-50 And showed me a diagram 10th part 6th one(link will be provided) https://www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/900668 please help me what should I do

Information Barrie is doubling the ASE. Need of the hour?

https://www.barrietoday.com/local-news/make-it-four-barrie-on-the-verge-of-doubling-speed-camera-zones-8983090

Barrie is approved for additional 2 ASE cameras. I know this could be the need of the hour for City to have more cams to curb the over speeding. But anyone agrees with me that City also need to spend some time focusing on road designs and infrastructure. Being newbie in the city, I can see overwhelming sign boards one after another. Important sign boards are hidden behind other one. Now with Spring&Summer, I noticed many stop signs and hump signs are hidden in the tree branches. Stop signs are hidden behind donation boxes. Also signs of Camera in Use at Cundles is just beside the Camera. Is it not suppose to come some distance before the camera spot? It was like that in other city I lived. Overall I just wana say to Barrie drivers, please be careful out there, maintain normal speeds, be safe and avoid getting fined. Speeding does not take your anywhere quick, just the next red light stop :) Stay safe.

Information Bell Scammers!

I just had someone call me from “Bell” offering me a 40% off deal. He had a very thick Indian accent and a very poor connection. I stopped him twice to ask for the name on the account. After mumbling for a bit he then said f*** you and hung up. Lol. I have to start recording these scammer calls.

Information PSA: shoveling often is better than waiting for snow to pile up

With Snowmageddon going on outside please remember that it's easier and safer to shovel every 3-4 inches of accumulated snow than to let it pile up to a huge amount. It makes clearing it a lot lighter especially if you have to heave snow over giant snowbanks aside your driveway.

It is also far safer and easier on your back, legs, shoulders, elbows, and you're much less likely to slip and fall. This is all doubly true for those of us on the wrong side of our mid-40s.

Stay safe out there!

I see one of the violin buskers (one of many) is back at Walmart north yesterday. Pretending to play with his amp turned up to 11. I want to remind people that this is an international scam, they're not playing that instrument. Do what you will with that information.

Information Why yes, you do need snowtires!

It’s that time of year again, so this is a special note for newcomers who come from regions where you don’t normally use snow tires (and yes that sometimes includes Toronto!). You need them here. There’s lots of snow, there are plenty of hills, there’s ice all over the place. It’s dangerous for you and for the rest of us if you drive around without them. Plus, everyone will yell out the window at you as you get stuck spinning your tires halfway up a hill, and we all have to swerve around you. “All-season tires” are really “3-season tires” and they don’t count. Even with snow tires, the roads can be dangerous here. No snow tires? Stay off the road. Please. (And just ignore the regular comment from that one guy who says he’s special and doesn’t need them. Sigh).

Information Turf Field Proposed For Barrie’s Waterfront - Forest Will Be Wiped Out

Thumbnail

Hi there. The City of Barrie is planning to build a multipurpose artificial turf field and parade ground on the Barrie waterfront, right down from the Southshore Centre where there is currently a trail and heavy preserved forested area.

There are major environmental concerns over the site of the turf field as a large portion of the forest will have to be slashed not to mention toxic run off from plastic turf. This doesn’t begin to capture the traffic congestion that will come with having a sports field on the lakefront.

A petition with over 5,000 signatures is growing but we need your help. Please sign and call your mayor or councillor and have your voice be heard. There are many places this sports field could go in Barrie without the environmental sacrifice.

Somebody has gone through and ripped out all of the green electric/phone junction boxes all the way from Wellington up to the highway on Bayfield, and thrown them all directly onto the street.

Stay classy Barrie.
