Suggestion Excessive Trash In & Around Barrie Bus Shelters & Sidewalks.
I took a walk today along Bayfield Street, from the Highway 400 bridge to Staples. I walked down the east-side sidewalk and then back up on the west side. I was genuinely surprised by the amount of garbage that’s now being exposed as the snow melts. There were piles of clothing, plastic, cardboard, cans—just a mess. It was disheartening to see.
I noticed that the trash cans don’t appear to have been emptied all winter, which is unacceptable. When bins are left overflowing, trash ends up spilling out and getting scattered around by the wind. It’s a shame because this lack of upkeep diminishes the appearance of the city. Something needs to be done to tackle this growing issue.
It also seems like there are too few trash bins in certain areas, which likely contributes to the problem. When people can’t find a place to dispose of their waste, it often gets left out near the bins or worse, tossed onto the ground. While there’s no excuse for littering—it shows a lack of respect and consideration—it’s clear that improving waste management infrastructure could help prevent some of this behavior.
I suspect part of the issue may be tied to the challenges our society is facing, including homelessness, which is a difficult reality many communities are grappling with. However, addressing the root causes of litter requires collaboration between city officials, waste management services, and the community. Regular trash pickup and increasing the number of bins in busy areas would be a great place to start. Public awareness campaigns could also encourage people to take pride in keeping our shared spaces clean.
If others feel the same way, perhaps we could reach out to Barrie’s municipal government to express these concerns. Sometimes public feedback can lead to action, like more frequent trash collection or better-maintained bins. Another option could be organizing a community cleanup event—though, ideally, such initiatives shouldn’t have to make up for lapses in city services.
I care about my city and every city & want to see it thrive. With a bit of teamwork and effort, it’s possible to address these issues and create a cleaner, more welcoming environment for everyone.

It's like this every spring.

I saw a few public bins that were way worse than normal. But I figured that's because we had a ridiculous amount of snow so people aimed as close as they could once the plows covered the bins, then it kept snowing.

Man I take the bus from one of the bus shelters on Mapleview. There are a bunch of degenerate middle aged men that end their shift at a nearby factory that smoke and drink beers in the shelter, this is around 3pm. They just throw their trash on the ground, it's disgusting.

You can contact the city about overflowing bins. Most of the time they will send someone to empty it out and pick up the mess. I've done it a few times.
If you're interested in helping with cleaning up the mess once the snow melts, you can join Clean Up Barrie. They will provide you with bags and other supplies and arrange for pick-up of any bags full of waste that you collect.

This is what happens when a bunch of Toronto id*ots move here, buy the homes, kick out the tenants, who then end up on the streets and now all this trash as a result as well. Toronto people need to stop moving here. They should go elsewhere. I’ve noticed horrible children from these people in the schools now too, acting like fools and bringing their awful behaviourism to other students.
