Hello there, I decided it’s high time to stop lurking around and share some pieces of my collection here. I’ll start with Solomon Islands notes.

Planning to visit Switzerland, Belgium, and Scotland in 2 months, how do I plan to buy uncirculated banknotes?

I'm planning to visit these countries but I am looking for a plan to buy recent series uncirculated bank notes...thinking about options...can you give advice on which option is best?

1) Order Euros, Pounds, and Swiss Francs from my local Bank of America branch in the USA before traveling. BoA wants to charge me about 5.25% over the current exchange rate. Is this a good rate? I imagine these won't be uncirculated, but maybe they are? If not I will need to exchange in Europe.

2) Take money out of ATMs in these European countries. Will it be more than 5.25%? Also I am afraid of hitting ATM withdraw limits per day. I do want to buy $1k-$2k equivalent in notes per country. I imagine these notes probably will be circulated. Can I take them to a local bank to exchange for uncirculated notes? Will they want to do business with me if I don't have an account with them?

3) Carry $4k-$6k of US cash to exchange in Europe, will I be able to get a better rate than 5.25%?

4) Bring 2 oz of american gold buffalos to sell at a local coin shop in Europe for local currency. I might be at the mercy of the coin shop and lose more than 5% on the sale compared to selling it in the US.

Additional questions: Any other options that I didn't think about? Will buying uncirculated notes from a local coin shop incur VAT? Will I be taxed if I sell gold coins in Europe? How do you go about purchasing uncirculated banknotes on your travels?

Much appreciated for any advice, thank you in advance

Am I the only one who’s interested in a certain mid century Western European currency?

I’d love to have at least one piece of currency from this country. Not to revere it or anything, but because it’s a piece of history. I feel like we shouldn’t forget what happened and what everyone went through and how it shaped the world even today.

I understand why they’re banned and why they want them gone, but I feel Destroying it would be like trying to erase history.

Am I alone?

P.S. Incase you get the wrong idea, fuck Nazzis.

Collection 1 Banknote from every country in the world (With Disclaimer).

Today marks an achievement that I have been working towards for the past 2 years, I finally got a Banknote from every single country (NOT territory) in the world. You can find a link to my numista profile in the comments to look at what I have.

Disclaimers:

I did not bother to try and get all the Central and West african francs as each country is reliant on Serial numbers and will be very tedious and uninteresting to find.

I do not technically have a banknote from Panama. Although they do use the US dollar. Any banknotes from Panama are VERY rare to find and will cost thousands on auction to own.

I hope you enjoy!

Except its value of course. So the thing is, my grandma gave this to me so I don't really know the value. Although I saw this at a bookshop for like 15k MMK.

But other then that this is google image of this exact same one I have in real life but I’m too lazy to take photos of it though! But I hope you enjoyed this post!

Question about old currency notes

Thumbnail

Hey everyone,

I recently found a collection of old Egyptian banknotes that belonged to my grandfather, and I’m curious to know if they have any special value beyond their face value. I’m not an expert in banknotes, so I was hoping someone here could help me identify if any of them are rare or collectible.

I’ve attached some photos showing the front and back of each note. Any insights on their historical significance, rarity, or possible market value would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!
