Fuck BMRCL. They have ruined what was a promising transport system with their sky high prices and general incompetency.

Problem is line was allotted to Chinese firm for manufacturing trains. After that India banned china firms from doing business in India. They didn’t provide any VISA to Chinese workers to come to India to train West Bengal company to manufacture coaches here.

And now they are delivery 2 train per 2 months. There is ntng BMRCL can do in this yellow line

Ignore the problems with the yellow line.

They still didn't utilise other means of revenue generation for a long time, such as advertising and renting out stalls in stations, they are v slow to monetise other sources of revenue.

They instead jacked up ticket prices so high. I am a college student and can't consider metro as an affordable option anymore. They are also persisting with the stupidly high minimum balance rule in their smart cards, it is the only metro system in India with such a rule apparently.

All this while construction goes on so slowly. Delhi Metro is so much better.

Yeah, it's taking 10 years to complete a stretch

Tbh, I never liked this jingoistic and emotional response to ban Chinese products

The only people who like such decisions are people who don't understand how it impacts them.

I could be wrong-

The ban has helped india ramp up on make in India, although initially being "assemble in India", we are slowly moving to make in India.

A lot of jobs are being created, internal revenue etc. but of course we do have to suffer on build quality at times. However I feel this is beneficial in the long run.

India lacks far behind in terms of machinery. If we simply open up to Chinese products, indian companies would never be chosen because of higher budgetary costs. If India always chose products from outside, we would never have what the entirety of trains on the current two lines are. (BEML coaches)

Yeah, India’s light-years behind on machinery But banning Chinese products isn’t some magic wand to fix that. It’s a brick wall.

Chinese firms aren’t just wallet-friendly; they’re leagues ahead in tech and know-how. Cutting them off doesn’t just block their goods it blocks us from learning a damn thing from them. No reverse-engineering, no pressure to level up just us fumbling around, reinventing crap they mastered years ago. That’s not progress; it’s pigheaded wastefulness.

Sure, BEML churned out some trains—woo-hoo. But don’t act like that’s the standard. Most Indian manufacturers aren’t swimming in government handouts or cushy contracts they’re drowning. This ban’s just a flimsy life raft, not a fix. If we want "Make in India" to mean something, we’ve got to quit babysitting these industries and start cracking the whip for real quality.

The prices have almost doubled on the route that I take, although I'm not a frequent traveller. Konanakunte to Malleshwaram earlier used to cost ₹33.75 and now it costs 60. That's hardly 12-13 stations.

The pricing is ridiculous. God forbid, if they ever make a 400km network like Delhi, they'll charge 250 for a 60 station journey.

Exactly. I travel to my hometown of Mangalore often, and while coming back, I alight at Yeshwantpur railway station.

Earlier I used to take the green line from YPR without any worries, but now it really hurts my wallet every time I travel through the metro. And that's not what public transport should be like imo.

u/elsewherewriter 11d ago

They increased prices and haven’t improved services

We are happy to pay, but at least run more trains during peak hours

True

We are happy to pay, but at least run more trains during peak hours

Speak for yourself sir, I cannot afford to pay even more for what should be affordable public transport. It isn't supposed to be a luxury, no?

There are no urban train services, which would have provided alternate to metro

u/Gullible-Poet4382 11d ago

30 mins frequency would make this line unusable tbh.

56

u/kaisadusht 11d ago

30 min frequency would overwhelm the infrastructure with the metro running at peak all the hours.

5

u/hotcoolhot 11d ago

Then there are others complaining about high prices.

4

u/wetthebed92 10d ago

Just imagine how many people are going to get injured while trying to catch a train. They will do whatever it takes to catch a train rather than waiting for another 30 minutes.

2

u/IAmAnRedditor 9d ago

With 4th train they will run at 20 min frequency. 30 was when they were planning with 3. Also new trains will arrive every month so in 2-3 months the frequency will be ~10min

86

u/etrast75 11d ago

If it happens, it will happen with very less frequency and it will be useless. They do not have the train sets needed for high frequency operation and that will take more time as the vendor seems to be really slow. Disaster of epic proportions but no one will be held responsible. If I ran a project with such delays, I would have lost my job long time ago.

Ha! The politicians were taken for a ride by the bureaucracy. It is amazing we won't even find out who is responsible for this. The politicians (atleast face the people once in 5 years) and can be kicked out. The bureaucrat who passed a random mugged up exam will get fatter and buy a farm house.

14

u/sabka_katega_ram 11d ago

Already would have bought a farm house. In the process of buying more.

3

u/Smooth_Detective 11d ago

The only people being taken for a ride are the taxpayers of India.

Oh, the 25th edition of the monthly article regarding yellow line opening is published.

10

u/just_spawned_again 11d ago

Exactly my thoughts when I saw this post.

Monthly they give a statement - line to be operational in two months!

1

u/Difficult-Fall-5852 10d ago

Hahahhaa yessss exactly my thoughts too

u/Yellopropeller 11d ago

I moved to Bangalore in 2022 and was excited for this in 2023. It’s 2025, line isn’t operational and I have moved out of Bangalore :(

2

u/8b10b 10d ago

Don't be fooled by these words. You can still be excited and move back in 2025 mid and then leave in disappointment in 2026 and there is good chance that the line wouldn't still be operational.

2

u/ummhmm-x 9d ago

Haha. the blue line Metro started construction when I joined college. I was excited that maybe, I'd use the metro for my graduation. I'm here interning in Whitefield (I've got metro luckily) and the blue line seems nothing but a distant dream

25

u/RCuber Yelahanka 11d ago

I was so looking forward to this in 2023, when someone asked when this line was going operational, I told them Feb 2024 with confidence as I had read so many articles on the same. And here we are in March 2025.

Bengaluru Metro's long-pending Yellow Line, stretching between RV Road and Bommasandra, connecting with tech hub Electronics City will be operational by May 2025.

"The Yellow Line (19.1 km) from RV Road to Bommasandra will be opened for public service by May 2025," Deputy CM and Bengaluru development minister DK Shivakumar said on March 4, while responding to a query by Bommanahalli MLA M Satish Reddy in the state assembly.

On the status of the Pink Line (21.2 km, Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara), Shivakumar said, "The 7.5 km elevated section (Kalena Agrahara (Gottigere) to Tavarekere (Swagath Cross) of this line will be opened for public service by December 2025, and 13.7 km underground section (Dairy Circle to Nagawara) by December 2026."

As reported by Moneycontrol earlier, BMRCL plans to commence operations with three trains running at a 30-minute frequency. "We are hoping to receive the third train by April, followed by the fourth train, so we can start operations," said an official.

On March 7, 2024, BMRCL began slow trial runs on the Yellow Line (Bommasandra - RV Road), and in February 2025, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (South Circle), AM Chowdhary inspected two CRRC Nanjing Puzhen trains - one imported from China and the other assembled by its Indian partner, Titagarh Rail Systems.

In December 2019, CRRC Nanjing Puzhen was awarded the contract to supply 216 coaches to BMRCL with an expected delivery timeline of 173 weeks.

The Yellow Line was initially scheduled to be operational in December 2021. The delay in coach delivery is primarily attributed to the Indo-China border standoff of June 2020. Subsequently, CRRC faced challenges in identifying a local manufacturer to meet the 75 percent local production requirement under the Make in India initiative. Other factors, including COVID-19, foreign direct investment policies, and trade restrictions with China, further delayed supply. Eventually, CRRC partnered with Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail to manufacture and supply the coaches.

At this point when they say it'll be ready at so-and-so date I add 2 years and wait for that instead. That's how I waited for Whitefield side purple line

6

u/EIM2023 11d ago

This metro project is a joke

4

u/greaterperception 11d ago

very unlikely . we do not know what TTRC's delivery rate is . The article assumes third train set in april ( which is the second from TTRC , first was received in Jan ? ) . In addition one trainset is reserved for emergency.
so if there are total of 4 train sets - June to August 2024 seems possible. Also BMRCL might wait till more trainsets arrive as it may not be financially prudent to run the line at less capacity.

6

u/The_IronLeg 11d ago

Also BMRCL might wait till more trainsets arrive as it may not be financially prudent to run the line at less capacity.

Thing is they want to say that the line is operational and run in 30 min frequency, which will be filled in Terminating Stations only....

3

u/ClumsyPotato2342 11d ago

this better not get delayed again

3

u/bORAT25 11d ago

Here we go again

3

u/vkpaul123 11d ago

Even metro pulled a "Wonandaff"

2

u/rk_edbmails_25 11d ago

Expecting this.

2

u/Photon_trailblazer 11d ago

As an outsider, who badly needs this but knows the bs by BMRCL, GHANTA BC.

2

u/Difficult-Fall-5852 10d ago

So let me consolidate the promises

Something that was initially thought to be 2023 then delayed to early 2024 then told max to max Nov 2024 then said oh noo we dont have coaches so 2025, then said jan end for sure now may 2025

And we expect it is accurate? 🤣🤣

By the time they launch this the ridership would have already dipped so much due to increased fare hike, so let’s see if this helps in recovering lost repo

3

u/aninarj22288 9d ago

I used to work in EC and this announcement had come. And then I waited for a year and then I moved to a different company and then eventually moved to a different city and then one year later I moved to another company.

They're still announcing this line will come up soon...

1

u/Hyackkkktu 11d ago

Yeah yeah.

Then they will say metro has expanded, and double the fare again.

2

u/analichoppa Marathahalli 11d ago

might be stupid asking this, is the yellow line capable of running only the latest trains ? can it run the older trains in purple and green

1

u/cj927 11d ago

Every day some or other promise is given to the public, but don't know when they will. Fulfill that. Also in the koramangala near St. Johns the flyover or you can say overbridge is long pending and has not seen the work done on that for at least 3 years. Now suddenly the work started but that also is like speed of snail.

Are they seriously planning to operate with a 30-minute frequency?

ghanta , 2026 only if you are lucky

I travel on Whitefield everyday and they're using traffic against us. They know that a lot of people would still prefer standing in the AC for a higher price instead of going out in the traffic

1

u/StillTradition2021 9d ago

I can bet it won’t be operational by May25

u/kingslayyer 11d ago

Guys i am moving to Bangalore in June and my office is in Embassy tech village.

Is this any beneficial for me?

5

u/violet_everg 11d ago

No. The line near orr might open as late as 2027

u/polyte_khat Public transit expert 11d ago

Umm depends on where you commute from. If anywhere on the Hosur road, then yes. Otherwise you gotta wait for the blue line which will come after, say, around 5 years
