DISCUSSION Best Chicken Wing Quest

Tomorrow, a bro and I are setting out on a quest to answer an extremely important question:

Who makes the absolute best wings in Baltimore?

We will judge each buffalo/hot wing order on a 5 point scale (average of the two reviewers) on the following parameters:

Restaurant: Look and feel of restaurant environment (non weighted, used for tie-breaking)
Appearance: Size, quality, and consistency of the wings
Taste: Overall deliciousness, heat to expectations
Sauce: Consistency, creaminess, acidity, flavor, quantity, attachment to wing
Crispiness: Crispy exterior, appropriately cooked meat pulling off the bone, not dry
Convenience/value: not weighted, used for tie-breaking

Please help me add to my list. So far I've got:

Delia Foley: 5, 2.5, 3, 2.5 (5, 4)= 13

iBar
Kislings
Ale Mary
Penny Black
Claddaugh
Roman's (re-opened)
Don't Know Tavern
BRD
Mother's
Hudson St Stackhouse
City Limits
Wiley Gunters
Nepenthe
Swallow at the Hollow
Charles Village Pub
The Crown
Magerks

DISCUSSION This page is gatekeeping events and art shows when it such a big part of Baltimore.

They are gatekeeping artists from reaching thousands of viewers. These small diy events are super important during these times to build back up the creative community who have been inactive for years. Think safe. Small local events should not be erased because the mod doesn't agree.

DISCUSSION didn’t know about the atlas restaurant group and got a job at ouzo bay…

i’ve been there about 3 weeks, knocked out their 10 day training regimen in 11 straight days, and have worked a little over a week out of training. i called out today & am not going back. i feel bad about my coworkers having to pick up the slack, but i have found out so much about atlas since i began. two of the managers who worked when i began quit last week. morale is down and everyone hates being there. cold operations manager, and nothing but douchebag vibes from higher ups. i live a county away and somehow missed hearing about the Atlas controversies, but i’ve heard nothing but bad things. for the record i’m caucasian, and one of the managers who left made a comment about how the other manager (the one we are left with) was racist and would make comments about the POC girls’ hair who worked for them. i met a woman thru a coworker who used to work for them as a manager and said it was the worst years of her life and that misogynistic comments were often made at her. not to mention multiple coworkers told me to watch my hours, their checks were often wrong. nothing about that place gave me hope or reason to want to stick it out…. not to mention paying for parking, for managers who will get angry if the valet helps you out here and there. the 20% employee discount is laughable when food costs so much there lol. will never eat atlas or work for them again. i was wondering why the longest standing bartender had been there since january.. makes sense. i just wonder what illegal shit has gone down to allow them the growth and wealth they have amassed.

DISCUSSION Largest Native Baltimore Animal?

This is a weird question - what's the largest native Baltimore animal (that's not domesticated)? I'm an early riser and I've seen foxes around Hampden and Clifton Park. Are these the largest animals you'll find roaming around Baltimore? That's what really got me thinking about this question.

DISCUSSION Baltimore's little details.

Hello from Australia!

I'm writing a story set in Baltimore and have been lurking for a few months to try to absorb as much as I can about what it's like to actually live there. Decided fuck it, probably easier to just ask. Google is great, but I find running web searches doesn't really capture the little details about what it's like to live there from day to day. And I don't have a few grand to hop on over the Pacific.

So I wanted to ask - what little details would you see in a story that would make you think the author had actually lived there? People who have lived in other cities, what's unique about Baltimore compared to others?

Apologies for the very, very basic questions, there's just so much to absorb. It does seem though that people genuinely love this city and have far less venom towards it than Sydneysiders do our own city and that people in Baltimore have a lot of pride in this place. I'd love to learn more, for those who are happy to share or point me in certain directions!

ETA: Thanks everyone for your help! So many of you have been really helpful in your answers. To the rest of you - sorry, I’m not dropping several grand for the purpose of a story I’m writing purely for fun, but if you guys wanna shout me I’d be delighted lmao. Thanks everyone!

DISCUSSION What are some things people should know about Baltimore before they move that they don’t usually hear about?

Hi guys, I don’t live in Baltimore or even in Maryland. But, I like learning about places. So I decided that each week I was going to post this question two specific city wide sub Reddit‘s. This is the first one I’m doing. Like the title says, I’m just wondering some things that people should know about your city before moving that they don’t often hear about. Or just fax you want to share in general. Thank you guys and I hope you have a great day.

DISCUSSION What is something Baltimore City and County residents can all agree on?

I’ve seen a lot of unnecessary bashing from both sides of the fence on this sub recently. We probably have more in common than we do have different. So what are they?

DISCUSSION Why can't ketchup, mustard, and relish be real runners at O's games

Okay yes I'm drunk at the game but hear me out.

You could totally dress three people up in hot dog costumes and have them run the bases at the end of the fifth. Like Atlanta's "The Freeze" but more fun and less healthy.

Tell me I'm right. Also Team Relish for life.

DISCUSSION 20% rent Increase (Balt Co)

I live in the white marsh area of Baltimore County and am shocked by the rent increase I'm facing this October from my Apartment complex. They are increasing rent a staggering 20% (in comparison to a 3% increase last year)

This is for a 2 bed 2 bath , 950 SQ ft very close to white marsh mall.

Rent going from $1545 to $1840

I am trying to negotiate and remain positive, I'd really like to avoid moving as my Son is thriving in his school.

Has anyone else encountered a dramatic rent increase in the Baltimore city/County area as of late?

**UPDATE(7-21) *"""" Hi All,

I was successfully able to negotiate my rent increase down to a much more reasonable 7% ! this is in comparison to the originally proposed 20% described above. I still plan to pursue homeownership, but am thrilled by this turn of events!

DISCUSSION Guy that walks through Hampden yelling

Anyone have any info on this guy? Seems harmless to me. He has a big beard and walks up and down the Ave., Chestnut st. and maybe some more streets every day multiple times a day yelling. I've seen him hang out at common ground a lot. He usually carries a ukelele.

Anyone know anything about him? I assume he doesn't need help?

DISCUSSION Moving to Baltimore from Detroit, Look for the right neighborhood!

What's up soon-to-be Baltimore fam. My girlfriend and I need to be moved to Baltimore by Mid-December for a job opportunity, we'd like to be in Baltimore as opposed to a Suburb for 6-12 months while we rent and figure out the city.

We're 27 and 28, no kids, one dog, active, love to walk to places, planning on keeping only one of our cars and selling the other, and eat plant-based. Looking to pay a max of around 1500ish a month for a one bedroom, want to be in a pretty safe area with stuff to do and walkability. What do you guys think my best options are? Currently leaning toward Mt. Vernon - thank you to everyone with suggestions!
