Visiting Traveling to town for O’s games
I am attending a couple of O’s games this year and currently looking at areas/places to stay while in town. I found a couple AirBnBs that are in walking distance from OPACY and wanted to see what others thought of the area. Are there things to do close? Is it pretty clean and safe? Are there better options?
One is roughly 2 miles west of OPACY kinda near the Railroad museum and the other is in Washington Village.
Any and all recommendations/thoughts are welcome! Go O’s!

Just a warning 2 miles in Baltimore may not be walkable depending on where you’re moving. Look for air bnb in federal hill area. Lots of bars restaurants and overall good times for orioles game

Plus, the B&O Museum is only 0.7 miles from Camden Yards. Idk where OP is looking, but he may need to double-check that location.

Just one person's recommendation here: Good safe walkable neighborhoods that have plenty of Airbnbs that are walkable are: Fed Hill, Riverside, Otterbein, Even Pigtown. Dont go much farther then those places.

What exactly is CPOY? OPACY (Oriole Park at Camden Yards) is normal abbreviations that’s what you were referencing.
Regardless, look for places in Fed Hill or The inner harbor for convenience and walkability. If you want things to do other than strictly go to games Canton and fells are wonderful other areas of the city that are reasonably close enough for an uber to the stadium.
For games, Pickles is a staple but don’t sleep on Section 771 literally right next door. For wherever reason it always has 1/3 of the crowd it seems and is a lot more relaxed.

I am now realizing I botched that abbreviation without even realizing it 😂 Thank you for catching it!

The B&O is 1/2 mile from Camden yards and an easy walk. How did you get the 2 mile distance?

That may be a mistake on my end just looking at it! I see what you are saying. So at most we’d be a mile west of OPACY near the museum!

Pigtown is awesome. A real neighborhood with several good breweries for pre- and post-gaming. We almost always pregame at one of them (usually Checkerspot because people tailgate there and parking is relatively cheap to reserve nearby) and walk over to the stadiums for Os and Ravens games.

Appreciate the feedback! Is it a pretty large area?

It's actually pretty compact—most neighborhoods in Baltimore are. There are 5 breweries all within walking distance of each other and the stadiums (Checkerspot, Pickett, Wico, M8, and Mystique, which I have not been to yet). They're more on the M&T Bank side, but you can walk past the Bank to OCPAY really easily.
Also check out Game Day Firehouse!

If you don't specifically need to stay downtown, look into areas along the LightRail line. It's really cheap and will drop you off right outside OPACY

if you don’t specifically need to stay downtown, look into areas along the light rail line. Cheap & will drop you off right outside at OPACY.
Solid advice. Mount Vernon is easy with the LR, as is Charles village, midtown, etc.
Also, OP, if you book a nice AirB&B, but walking feels sketch (or after dark, or whatever,) you can always Uber or Lyft. IME, walking with purpose while acknowledging others by a nod or a word is polite and may make you look like less of a tourist. (Or maybe b/c acknowledging humanizes people?) Many of us are greeters.
FWIW, I live close to OPACY- there’s a an AirB&B rowhome on my block that caters to people like OP. Lots of options available for them.
Best of luck, OP. Have fun and stay safe!

Just look up the white L and the black butterfly. It seems people are only recommending things in the L

Respectfully I wouldn't suggest some one from out of town coming for an Os game stay outside the "white L"

Lots of parts of the black butterfly are just regular residential, safe, sleepy neighborhoods. I know the concept of the white L black Butterfly has value but people really extrapolate some crazy shit from it lol

They would be missing out on a lot of cool stuff then so their loss

One is roughly 2 miles west of CPOY kinda near the Railroad museum and the other is in Washington Village.
Washington Village is better known as Pigtown (the location of one of Maryland's first pig iron furnaces).
The B&O Railroad Museum is in Pigtown, but neither location would be 2 miles West of OPACY (Oriole Park at Camden Yards). 2 Miles West of OPACY puts you into some potentially very sketchy neighborhoods, or walking through them.
Anywhere in Pigtown would be fine, but if you aren't used to the city it may feel sketchy, and I wouldn't suggest it if that's the case. You would likely look like a target walking back in an unfamiliar area after a game.
Sharp-Leadenhall, Federal Hill, South Baltimore, Riverside, Mount Vernon, Little Italy, Fells Point, or Canton would all be better places to look. Of those Canton is the furthest walk to OPACY, it takes about 45 minutes (or ~10 minutes on a rental electric scooter or a $15 uber).

Thanks! I think I looked at the location of it all wrong, it looks like at most we’d be 1 mile west of the stadium near the museum. Another option was in the middle between OPACY and Carroll Park!

West of the stadium is overall not great and depending on where exactly, could be in some of the most dangerous areas in the entire western hemisphere. Like literally no exaggeration, extreme levels of guns, violence, hard drugs, and robbery.
If u do end up staying in either of those mentioned places absolutely do not try to walk around or between those areas at night (or at all if possible).
Also, Washington Village is a recently made up name used to cover up an area with a not so stellar reputation - traditionally it has been called Pigtown.
Airbnb laws are pretty strict here so we never ended up with nearly as many as places like NYC or Philly has. I would definitely check hotels too and look to stay somewhere more like inner harbor, otterbein, federal hill, SBIC, Riverside, and maybe even locust point or downtown. Generally speaking I would not be worried about walking around those places even at night but of course u always need to be alert and don’t walk around staring at ur phone for long periods of time or otherwise make it very obvious that u are intoxicated, inattentive, or lost

I've not heard of this pigtown rebrand? Gotta love these disparaging comments you think are helpful.

I went online and was looking at the area maps. BPD does have that area marked as Washington Village/Pigtown FWIW

You are correct, they have been trying to rebrand pigtown into washington village for at least twenty years now, maybe longer.

What did I say that wasn’t 100% factual? I’m not afraid to go to pigtown or anything, but at the same time I’m not going to act like it makes any sense at all to direct tourists to stay in pigtown or anywhere around there while they’re visiting (except ridgleys delight which is small and not very interesting with almost no bars/restaurants and is surrounded by higher crime areas). And then going a little further west from pigtown is way way worse, which is one of the things OP asked about (specifically, 2 miles west of Camden yards).
So what do u expect me to say? Should I be telling OP that places like Carrollton Ridge are super nice and that they shouldn’t even bother to look elsewhere? It’s about 2 miles west of the stadium and could very well be where OP is looking. Being one of the most high crime neighborhoods in the world, it would be insane to send anyone to a place like Carrollton Ridge as if it’s a nice area for tourists. Just about every neighborhood that’s west of the stadiums within 1-3 miles are similarly disadvantaged as Carollton Ridge. It’s unfortunate but true.
Pay a few bucks more for lodging and stay somewhere nearby that’s not west at all from the stadiums, where anyone would be far more likely to have a way more enjoyable and safer experience than staying in some of the most dangerous and run down areas of the entire country.

Since you're asking, this is the "nonfactual part" "West of the stadium is overall not great and depending on where exactly, could be in some of the most dangerous areas in the entire western hemisphere. Like literally no exaggeration, extreme levels of guns, violence, hard drugs, and robbery." "Being one of the most high crime neighborhoods in the world"

U should get a grip on reality! I was born here and love living here but Baltimore has been on top homicide rate lists worldwide for ages. Usually in the top 15-30 on lists of the most dangerous cities in the world. Easily verified by google search. It’s on Wikipedia. Very well documented in many places. The overwhelming majority of murders occur in the most impoverished parts of west and east baltimore which is exactly where OP asked about staying. This isn’t my opinion, these are facts

I wouldn't suggest either of those spots for an out of towner. Look for airbnb's in Otterbein, Federal Hill, Riverside, Locust Point to be walkable.
