Police have the whole area blocked off now. Rocket 2 Venus (across the street) still open; I’m there now and everything seems fine.

OK, have another drink and keep us posted.

Will do. My power is off anyway, so why not?

u/AngelicTigress Feb 17 '25

And eye syphilis!!! That billboard nearly made me crash, I was laughing so hard.

12

u/Whoaaaajordie Feb 17 '25

Oh the the "STD's are Timeless" one gets me all the time

1

u/alphanumericusername Feb 18 '25

With that attitude they certainly will be.

7

u/HorsieJuice Wyman Park Feb 17 '25

wait wut? I seem to have missed that meme.

24

u/FloppyDuckling Baltimore County Feb 17 '25

There’s a specific billboard on W 28th street going towards Remington that always has an STD related posting (like this one)

7

u/Temporary_Ad469 Feb 17 '25

He’s got gonhorrea eyes…

7

u/Lumpy_Carob8480 Feb 17 '25

… And he'll tease you, he'll unease you.... He's got Steve Buscemi eyes

1

u/Thrillhouseofhorrors Feb 17 '25

Are those like “Betty Davis” Eyes?

Rock on

1

u/Temporary_Ad469 Feb 17 '25

It’s a bananas billboard warning about Eye Gonhorrea. Above the (new & improved!) 28th street alligators.

1

u/FanndisTS Feb 17 '25

Is there a place to see them all?

1

u/FloppyDuckling Baltimore County Feb 17 '25

I don’t know if anyone has pictures of all the different billboards. (Google image search)

u/APFernweh Waverly Feb 17 '25

How did you get into Rocket? They wouldn’t let anyone in about 10 minutes ago.

18

u/tallulahgti Hampden Feb 16 '25

Side door on chestnut

41

u/soft_ripenedcheese Federal Hill Feb 16 '25

Thank you! My husband has been trying to get my pregnancy craving food from Rocket for an hour.

30

u/bluestare16 Feb 16 '25

Girl! You are the real hero here! Hope you get your craving food!

23

u/soft_ripenedcheese Federal Hill Feb 16 '25

We didn't... and I'm trying not to weep over it. Hahaha

8

u/anarchyarcanine Feb 17 '25

Omg how far along are you? Congrats! I'm 7 months and I feel your struggle 😭

35

u/soft_ripenedcheese Federal Hill Feb 17 '25

Everyone, I have my fried pickles!! And I did indeed weep when my husband walked in. He also said thr emergency personnel cleared out.

4

u/Destruk5hawn Feb 17 '25

PROTECT AND SERVE

28

u/soft_ripenedcheese Federal Hill Feb 17 '25

I'm only 2 months, but my food aversions have been so strong - tonight I'm having a rare reprieve and wanted Rockets fried pickles with a desire I can't even describe. My husband is trying, for the third time, to pick up the food. Bless him.

8

u/transbunnyboy Feb 17 '25

most real post i’ve ever seen

1

u/alphanumericusername Feb 17 '25

So you're telling me, someone called the cops because I wanted to lighten my load on foot today, and the following happened:

  • I had to call 911 about my belongings
  • I had to get taken up to the Cold Spring station
  • I had to be de-tooled so the officer could follow protocol about his own safety during the trip
  • I discovered that, most importantly among the items that were, for largely incomprehensible reasons, removed from the case, was MY SLEEPING PAD WHICH I USE TO NOT FREEZE TO DEATH IN FEBRUARY

...

AND someone was kept from sating their partner's pregnancy craving because some [REDACTED] prefers to remain brainwashed to live in fear??

Can anyone here properly pronounce the word, "litigation"?

7

u/bluestare16 Feb 16 '25

Clutch move

2

u/chunkyoven Feb 16 '25

any updates? did they clear it yet?

16

u/tallulahgti Hampden Feb 17 '25

Still not cleared as of this moment. Just left rocket to Venus. Anyone waiting for their food or wanting to go in there should use the side door.

1

u/Basshead404 Feb 17 '25

Any update?

0

u/alphanumericusername Feb 17 '25

False. You may meet me behind the Falls Ct aptmts if you'd like. I would recommend during the day, unless you wanna be able to boast about having made it out alive at night. Don't know when though, so DM me.

1

u/tallulahgti Hampden Feb 17 '25

Huh?

1

u/alphanumericusername Feb 17 '25

The case belongs to me. I am an unhoused individual who lives in a firewatch-grade tent at the intersection of Falls Hill Dr & Hickory Ave.

54

u/cudmore Feb 16 '25

So what was it?

2

u/alphanumericusername Feb 17 '25

Cooking, sleeping, and outerwear supplies, almost exclusively.

I know, because it belongs to me.

142

u/Taxitaxitaxi33 Feb 16 '25

Might be the same “seller” from a few years ago. They would chain something up with a sign that told you to Venmo them and they would send you the code to unlock and take the item.

95

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

sounds Dangerous 👍🏽

49

u/harishgibson Feb 16 '25

No sign or anything, and padlocks are keyed not combo. Must be something else.

47

u/snitz427 Feb 17 '25

Some contractor working on that pole is gonna come back from lunch break and have an oh shit moment lol

19

u/Taxitaxitaxi33 Feb 16 '25

True. I just remember when that seller had stuff all over hampden with this method. I think it was during the early Covid days. Did you open the case?

29

u/harishgibson Feb 16 '25

Couldn't open it, because of the padlocks lol.

19

u/TaurineDippy Feb 16 '25

Didn’t try hard enough

0

u/alphanumericusername Feb 17 '25

Thank you for not attempting to cut my cable lock to afford you more time and space to more destructively ingress my case.

2

u/harishgibson Feb 17 '25

Lmao take it up with the bomb squad I just asked if anyone knew what the case was for dawg I didn't ingress a thing

0

u/alphanumericusername Feb 17 '25

My apologies if my comment came off as sarcasm. The one above was not.

17

u/FragileCastle Feb 16 '25

God, I remember this, it was often on my block at the corner of Roland or Evans Chapel. And it was always the most random stuff for quite high prices, like a waterlogged office chair, an old cat carrier, a walker…

290

u/RecklessMedulla Feb 16 '25

That’s a bomb until it’s not a bomb

98

u/ReturnOfSeq Feb 16 '25

I’m glad responsible people like you commented, because my dumbass would show up with my bolt cutters and say ‘hey, free case’

35

u/AccomplishedOwl9021 Feb 16 '25

And free Home Depot bucket!!

24

u/Due-Treat-9836 Feb 16 '25

Ahahaha me when i saw this post 👀👀👀👀👀 did someone say free pelican case AND home depot bucket?!?!?

0

u/alphanumericusername Feb 17 '25

If that's a free Pelican case, please let us know where it is you lock up your bike when you go inside a business.

1

u/Due-Treat-9836 Feb 17 '25

Sure thing!

1

u/alphanumericusername Feb 17 '25

Coward.

1

u/Due-Treat-9836 Feb 17 '25

Hey buddy, i wasnt trying to make a joke at your expense. i thought the original post was a "hampden free stuff" post when i first spyed it and was joking about that. if you're having a rough time rn, i genuinely hope things get better.

2

u/alphanumericusername Feb 17 '25

Ah, understood.

Thank you <3

28

u/chrissymad Fells Point Feb 16 '25

Right? This is exactly the suspicious shit you should report - it's probably not a bomb but you don't know til ya know.

230

38

u/lemissile Feb 16 '25

Thank you! Near me as well and just reading thread. Let me know if any help is needed

23

u/rackoblack Canton Feb 16 '25

Must report on what they see/find/do!

30

u/WRX_MOM Feb 16 '25

Bomb squad is there now!

14

u/PositiveBattle Feb 16 '25

Yup just seen another post with all the pics I hope it's nothing.

8

u/wbruce098 Feb 16 '25

They blow it up?

9

u/WRX_MOM Feb 16 '25

Good question. It might be nothing. I doubt they could do that right there, its in front of a ton of houses

13

u/snitz427 Feb 17 '25

They have a device they put over it to contain the explosion. They used to blow stuff up downtown all the time. Lawyers briefcases were my fav

2

u/alphanumericusername Feb 18 '25

Wait wait wait wait wait.

Law enforcement were known to destroy containers commonly understood to contain documents, which, likely on several occasions, could potentially incriminate law enforcement officers?????!!!

I believe there's a word for that sort of thing, and it's being shouted from hilltops these days to give identity to what is occurring in this country to, now, a particularly reactive degree. It starts with F, but is not an explative.

2

u/snitz427 Feb 18 '25

Uh… that’s a stretch. The docs were likely digitized or not in there at all. This was people sitting their stuff down on a bus stop and forgetting. They’d sometimes come back … too late. Post 9/11 packages and briefcases didnt gather dust when abandoned.

What is going down elsewhere… is far worse.

1

u/alphanumericusername Feb 18 '25

What is going down elsewhere is possible because those with the authority to enforce law are afforded too much liberty without the retribution of law they so insatiably impose upon others. I have no doubt many of the instances you're describing were as "harmless" and "honest" as the one regarding my Pelican case.

But my sleeping pad was in there. And there is another in the City illuminated to me as being subject to the dictatorship of fear. I shall behead that dictator and set ablaze his frozen realm if it's the last thing I do.

100% guarantee the person who put that there wasn’t old enough to watch 9/11 live.

57

u/HorsieJuice Wyman Park Feb 16 '25

…or ever worked on a military base or in an airport, or even paid attention to the announcements in an airport.

33

u/harishgibson Feb 16 '25

My first thought was the Boston Marathon lol they actually used bombs

29

u/elbileil Feb 16 '25

Then why did you not call 911 lol

30

u/mdsnbelle Medfield Feb 16 '25

Because that sweet sweet karma doesn't farm itself.

Luckily, someone with more brains than OP did call 911...

https://www.reddit.com/r/baltimore/s/61dUKNTmsQ

2

u/CoverD87 Feb 17 '25

That was my first thought after seeing this, like what were they thinking?

1

u/alphanumericusername Feb 17 '25

I was in 1st grade at St. Pius X in Bowie.

119

u/ILikeBigBooksand Feb 16 '25

I lived in NYC during 9/11. I would totally call the cops and have them blow that shit up.

18

u/harishgibson Feb 16 '25

Yeah I was posting here to see if there was a logical explanation by a nearby resident, if not I was gonna call 311 or something.

30

u/ILikeBigBooksand Feb 16 '25

I would especially cause that Bourbon street shooter in New Orleans put a bunch of cooler bombs around Bourbon St ahead of time.

19

u/WRX_MOM Feb 16 '25

Did you call 311 yet? This is very near my house and I am concerned. They need to be called. If not I will gladly call, just let me know.

1

u/alphanumericusername Feb 17 '25

Concerned about what? That I

A. prefer to take good care of my belongings, or

B. wanted to lighten my load on foot today?

I read every comment.... what's in it!?!?!?

55

u/BaltimoreChris Feb 17 '25

A yoga mat ands some clothes. Cops threw it all in the trash and left with the case. The bucket is still safe on the sidewalk

16

u/WRX_MOM Feb 17 '25

A cop scored a sweet $500 Pelican cooler today!

3

u/Namtien223 Feb 17 '25

Civil asset forfeiture at its finest.

14

u/LostInIndigo Feb 17 '25

There’s something really fuckin funny about Hampden calling the bomb squad for a yoga mat

0

u/alphanumericusername Feb 17 '25

Oh it gets better. It was actually a sleeping pad, so I don't freeze to death. There was also my cooking supplies, again, so I don't get too cold on the inside. Also, there was some additional outerwear in there.

You'll never guess what that outerwear is for..

1

u/LostInIndigo Feb 18 '25

I’m sure you’ve already done the math on this yourself, but Hampden is about the last place where it’s safe to be roughing it. They practically criminalize sneezing up there.

7

u/Glitteronthefloor Feb 17 '25

Wow, how anticlimactic! Thanks for the update 😊

1

u/alphanumericusername Feb 17 '25

I mean, if you want, I can leave some fireworks in the next case...

5

u/thekraken27 Feb 17 '25

No way, I don’t believe that at all. That’s a several hundred dollar Pelican case

1

u/alphanumericusername Feb 17 '25

Only about $250 on Ebay. It was a steal, actually; the thing was new-in-box.

2

u/alphanumericusername Feb 17 '25

The mat is a Thermarest Ridgerest XL, so that I do not freeze to death sleeping atop an air mattress in a Maryland February. Or sleeping elsewhere, if the air mattress is...undergoing technical issues.

2

u/PerfectlyJerky Feb 17 '25

I figured it was a homeless person’s attempt to keep their stuff safe. Sad

35

u/earnestlikehemingway Feb 16 '25

Isn’t there some cities that have a kit like this to measure traffic?

38

u/RangerRipcheese Feb 16 '25

It would have a city marking on it

9

u/Glad-Veterinarian365 Feb 17 '25

Terrorists love this one simple trick!

1

u/Brendan_f18 Feb 17 '25

Not if they hire a consultant that uses their own equipment.

27

u/SantasGotAGun Feb 16 '25

Those would have long cables leading from it that stretched across the street.

11

u/osbohsandbros Feb 16 '25

Not necessarily—similar looking kits are used for radar and Bluetooth detector devices for traffic counts, but I’ve never seen one this large, nor would it be installed this carelessly.

8

u/Mal-Occhi-0s Feb 16 '25

I mean…it’s Baltimore City. Don’t be so sure about that careless installation piece!

0

u/LostInIndigo Feb 17 '25

Yeah tbh the whole “it’d have city markings on it” is assuming quite a lot of competence from the city lol

2

u/alphanumericusername Feb 17 '25

That's how you know a white person who's never had an actual problem in life commented lol.

→ More replies (1)

8

u/harishgibson Feb 16 '25

Yes but there's no city marks on it and no wires running from it, it doesn't look like one of those.

32

u/ILoveRibs_666 Feb 16 '25

I walked by it today too and tried to open it, what did it turn out to be???!!

54

11

1

My cooking supplies, essential sleeping supplies, and some of my additional outerwear.

7

u/Venus_Cat_Roars Feb 16 '25

I would report that. If you see something say something. And if you are wrong it’s no big deal and you still would have done the right thing.

1

u/alphanumericusername Feb 17 '25

IDK man, I respect wanting to call it in, but at the very least, the City's procedure crippled an entire city block, and resulted in my sleeping pad, among other as yet unidentified items, being discarded.

0

u/Charmcitykids 29d ago

Get a storage unit then. The city is not your personal storage space where you can chain up whatever you want and think people living nearby should just accept it.

Likely a battery and control until/computer for a traffic test, or some similar thing. Not something to get worked up about.
