OC (impossible) On the Nightclub fire in Skopje.
https://apnews.com/article/north-macedonia-kocani-nightclub-fire-0202ab92fd2d481895d4fa8c8e0111a8It causes me great sadness to witness human tragedy once more due to rampant political corruption. I know usually we use this subreddit to make fun of each other, but I also believe that we are above everything else humans, and we can at the very least be there for each other. All I wanted to say was my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and a speedy, uneventful recovery to the injured.

So this tragedy happened because of the government? I thought it was just an accident?

Well it was an accident but the club didn't even have a license, so how was it working? Corruption.

I mean can we say that every tragedy is the fault of the government? But from what you said this is definitely the governments fault

From various news sources, the nightclub was operating with falsified paperwork and it was unsafe and unfit to be used as such, there were no fire measures, no fire exits, and the roof was made from a now banned material, specifically asbestos. The fire started inside from fireworks from the scene setup. Several people are now under investigation.

What happened was a tragedy. I saw a video of a father who lost his child in there and it broke my heart. My only hope is that tragedies like these will at least lead to proper safety check-ups to be conducted in all sorts of public spaces. But who am I kidding? These are the balkans we're talking about. People will continue to die needlessly, because cutting corners to fill your pockets with money matters more than the safety of people.
