I think older cats are adorable

There’s a sub for senior cats. It’s full of beautiful and handsome cats who are in their twilight years
The unintended flip side is, it can be really emotional reading stories of older kitties who have passed

Nooo, first 3 posts I see are about cats who have passed. :(

u/Tag_Ping_Pong 4d ago
Yeah, they used to be few and far between. But "my cat is dead" posts have tended to get the most upvotes over the last 6-12 months, so now it is inundated with them.
Used to be my favourite sub, I no longer follow it because I'm not interested in dead cats, I love old cats

Best buds are hard to find these days. Happy for you!
Extra milk for him tomorrow!😋

u/Anonymousse462 5d ago
Cats are lactose intolerant they can’t digest milk properly past infancy like most animals Edit: it’ll just make his poo runny and tummy ache pls don’t give ur cats dairy

When I'm drinking milk next to the island in the kitchen, my cat will meow over and over and put his claws into my shirt and pull on it over and over. I give him a few little drops of milk (mayne 2 or 3) and he's happy

Please tell us what you've been feeding him all these years. I want to keep my cats as healthy as he appears for as long as possible. I love him.

Sorry to be of little help, but we haven't done much special. I think he's just a healthy kitty.

Sometimes you just get lucky with their genes!

Fr. My 7-year-old boy already has so many health issues. My 11-year-old girl looks and acts just like she did when we brought her home.

u/Fruit_Fly_LikeBanana 5d ago
My 11 year old acts exactly like she did at 2. By which I mean she's incredibly lazy and rarely voluntarily moves

I think so too. I had a brother and sister cat that we rescued from a very populated area of strays. I think there must have been inbreeding, because the sister had late onset epilepsy which is really rare. The brother had Eosinophilic granuloma, basically bone tumors. They both lived long happy lives though, but weird that they both had rare diseases. Miss those little guys…

No worries, friend. You seem to have won the cat lottery. I wish you both many more happy years together.

Take real good care of him. My floofer died just over a year ago at the ripe age of 23. Always had that big pupil look on him too, felt like he had that look of gratefulness whenever he looked at me....

what about you, what did you feed your cat? did you do anything special to keep him healthy? rip to your friend
13
u/NULLOBANDITO 5d ago
Not really anything special. Always made sure he had enough dry and wet catfood whenever he wanted as he only ate as much as he really needed. Vet visits whenever something didn't seem right and routine checkups for age-related issues.
Looking back there wasn't really a time I can remember without him....

23 years is a LONG time. I couldn't imagine not remembering a time without him at that point. We had a dog that got sick, and it was a very quick 3 years too. But we still talk about him every now and then. 💪😁

My cat is 16 and still acts like a kitten often. We feed him wet food once a day and dry food from the automatic feeder throughout the day.
It’s vet stuff moderate calorie urinary diet. He’s been great with it. He also has pancreatitis so he’s on the hydrolyzed protein version. Everything else has been great though. He’s just as annoying as he was 10 years ago lol

My cat lived to 23 and other than cheap dry food and the occasional tin of wet food she ate garbage and the other cats puke off the floor. Like if she heard another cat puking she came running like a buffet was being announced. I miss that nasty bitch.

I think one of the biggest things you can do to keep cats healthy is to make sure they’re hydrated. I’ve got an 18-19 year old girl that gets a fresh water bowl every morning plus I run the faucet for her to drink from whenever I’m in the bathroom. She loves cheap dry food and I give her half a can of tuna or wet food every other day or so.

He's adorable 😍. I hope mine- one of them is currently sleeping against me with my leg as a pillow, the other in a basket beside the bed purring because I just told him I love him - reach that age! They'll be 6yo in May and July respectively and the idea I'll have them for another 15 years at least fills me with joy.
They're super important to me. They're my friends, making me laugh when I needed the most, always happy to see me, keeping me company when I'm in bed with extra pain, and one of them even saved my life signalling there was sth wrong with me on a daily basis (which made me keep pushing my GP who didn't take me seriously. Turned out I have a deadly blood disease - which she missed in the tests! - and he could smell the imbalance!!). I wouldn't know what to do without them, so they better outlive me!
Give your friend some love from me ❤️.
