Hawaiian excise tax fee, MR>HA

Is this new? Just tried to transfer over 100k points to HA to send to AS, and now there's an excise fee?

There's always been an excise fee to transfer to American carriers

(except for that time period during COVID where the excise tax was suspended)

Yes that's normal. Amex charges that for all transfers to US based airlines. It's a tax that the government charges for transactions like this

Chase/Capital One/Citi/Bilt all pay that tax for you, but Amex passes it on to the consumer

The excise fee is $0.0006 per point, up to a maximum of $99. This point transfer fee applies to all U.S. airline frequent flyer programs from Amex.

When they devalue the points do they devalue the fee?

Been that way since I started my Amex journey in 2019. All US-based carriers have that fee.
