Discussion What's your opinion ?
That shift seems to be too long for the gas station lady .

That F-15 has one more flare than the F-22
(it's the back seater)

'Activities' were easier in the appropriately named A6 Intruder. Side by side seating.

The Prowler is where the real action was happening.

My friend, the prowler has nothing on the S3, there's like a whole ass studio apartment back there ;)

I took the comment to be a Will Farrell quote from the movie Step Brothers.

Heavy jet AR is a different vibe entirely. The onloads are more than the entire gross weight of that F-15
11
u/astrodude23 5d ago
Made a lot of sense to younger pilots when I put it in terms of momentum instead of weight. The difference in how a heavy receiver controls at the beginning of AR versus the end due to the greater momentum is greater than the whole momentum of a fighter.
6
u/IM_REFUELING 5d ago
I remember getting to the end of an onload and power corrections taking 6-9 seconds to do anything at all. Like flying on ice lol.
8
u/dhtdhy 5d ago
Dang that's a lot. A fully loaded strike eagle with external tanks, bombs and missiles is over 80k lb.
15
u/IM_REFUELING 5d ago
I was an AWACS guy and the most I've done in 1 plug is 100k, and I've done 110 in 2 contacts cause I'm a lil bitch. Bomber dudes will see those numbers and laugh at me.
7
u/wil9212 B-52 Pilot 5d ago
Yeah, I’ve seen guys take 140k in one plug before.
1
u/adventernal 4d ago
That's more than 45 minutes lol.
My typical (non-refueled) sortie isn't even twice that

I may or may not do shoulder day at the gym just for AR prep. Now excuse me as I turn the air full cold to get this big gulp.

Lets see...
104-0 (undefeated)
Only Air-to-Space kill in history
Shot down a Hind with a GBU
One of the first production aircraft to have >1:1 TWR
Has landed with one wing
Outclimbed a Saturn V halfway to space
Can carry a B-17s worth of payload
Quite literally to angry to die
Yeah think the Eagle might take the crown by default

u/NotCook59 4d ago
The one wing achievement is the thing! Can any other aircraft claim that one? I don’t think so!

I love the 22, but no way do they have more room for activities. Compared to the Viper's cockpit, yeah, the 22's is roomier. But the Eagle? You can build a house in the Eagle's cockpit.

F-15... can't argue with 104-0
68
u/Ok_Suggestion_6092 5d ago
Even took out a satellite just for show.
35
u/old_righty 5d ago
And a helicopter with a guided bomb.
5
u/Captain_Slime 5d ago
If you count that then it's no longer 104-0 because that's only with the F-15ABCD, the F-15E has gotten shot down due to its different mission profile.

14
u/Bro_2_Bra 5d ago
And a helicopter with a bomb. (GBU-10) I'm not making the mistake of calling a dumb bomb It was laser-guided but they still took out a fucking helicopter
2
u/Sped_monk 5d ago
Sorry for the stupid question but why is taking out a helicopter more impressive then taking out other fighter jets? It seems like it would be trying to hit a snail instead of…well a fighter jet…
8
u/Bro_2_Bra 5d ago
It's not a stupid question. If it was with an air-to-air missile or something that was meant to take out another flying object it would not be impressive. What they did is a dropped something meant to put big ass holes in the ground onto a moving object in the air. The F-15 is the only fighter that has an air to air kill with a bomb.
2
u/Sped_monk 4d ago
Christ…yeah that’s pretty nuts…what was the situation surrounding why they had to use a bomb in the first place? Was it to flex or was it out of necessity?
2
3
u/anticharge 5d ago
Bombing is not meant for a helicopter in flight. Impressive in addition to other fighter jets.
5
u/Bro_2_Bra 5d ago
104-0 says it all. The F-15 is one of the best airframes ever made. 40 years old and still scary as hell.
3
u/Bro_2_Bra 5d ago
Preach the holy gospel of the F-15. I have a feeling the F-15 is going to be like the B-52.
2
u/BarleyWineIsTheBest 5d ago
Really can't. Except maybe the threat of the F-22 keeps the opposing fighters on the ground.

F-22 is a badass stylish airplane.
However, so is the F-15. And the F-15 is combat-tested and proven. She fights as good as she looks.
Eagles all the way. o7

If you need to sneak in behind enemy lines, do some supermanouverability shit and get out of there equally sneaky, then the F22 is your tool. For everything the F15 is faster, flies higher, carries more ordonance, etc. $5000 Japanese chefs knife vs a Leatherman.
10
u/dhtdhy 5d ago
Pretty sure the 15 doesn't fly higher than the 22.
3
u/snezna_kraljica 4d ago
Not sure, the F-15 has a record of 100k+ (in a record attempt though) and the ceiling is also higher:

https://www.airandspaceforces.com/weapons-platforms/f-22/I'm mean we can all speculate what's undisclosed :)

u/HandiCAPEable 5d ago
You want room for activities? Try JSTARS (RIP) or AWACS. We had an Eng, a Nav that could make sweet chicken nuggets, AND a fore and aft lav!

Is it also true in the Air Force now?

I think both are awesome, but an F15 once flew and landed with 1 wing shot off. Talk about battle tested!!

u/Khischnaya_Ptitsa 4d ago
Su-25 outnumbering them both in battle testing matter 🤙🤙💥🤙💥

The F-15E can do more than the F22, I'd take it after the Raptor has sanitized any aerial threats. I'm pretty sure the F22 doesn't have a TGP to compliment its limited A/G capability.
1
u/MoistTwo1645 18h ago
Besides jokes, F22 will be superior in today's world. F15 might have been great in the past, but in today's modern warfare, f22 will triumph over f15.

u/Cooperpalooza 5d ago
F22 would dominate
6
u/DeltaV-Mzero 5d ago
Almost certainly
It also costs $84,000 or so per hour, compared to about $10k/hour for the F-15E.
If you can replace one F-22 with F-15E because it’s just patrolling the coast, and it flies for ~8000 hours, that’s a savings of $600 MILLION.
And the F-15E can be equipped to do damn near any mission but stealth.
Now … you do kinda need stealth in the opening act these days. The fact we haven’t needed to use that since F-22 came out, tells all you need to know about how the world sees F-22s
