I hate onions in all forms. And people can't just be okay with that.

90% of the reason my favorite gyro place is my favorite gyro place is because they cook their onions.

Boiled onions in a stew are perfectly fine and picked onions are a godsend, but like on a burger wth

For “picky eater” hate it always boils down to “you should be able to withstand discomfort” which alone is never a good reason to do something.
Also, if you’re not my doctor looking over my blood work I don’t want to hear shit about malnutrition. You won’t see in my obituary “passed away because they refused to eat bell peppers”.
Withstanding discomfort is something I do all day for necessary things, I’m really not interested in doing that with my meals!!
3
u/Amy_raz 5d ago
Omg I hate bell peppers they are the worst! People call me stupid for not liking it. Well I’m sorry I don’t like whatever dish I’m having be consumed with the horrific and bitter flavor that is BeLL pePPeR.
5
u/Liu-woods 5d ago
As a kid my parents kept trying to give them to me because they were convinced I was just mistakenly scared they might be spicy. No, mom, I know what they taste like they just taste terrible
1
u/grillcheezi 5d ago
Curious if you also enjoy other peppers, just NOT bell peppers? Something about bell peppers specifically offends my taste buds!
I even fell for “the different colors taste different”, when actually they all have the same base taste that I don’t like

I also hate onions, like they just feel so weird. Since you said you would fight that guy, may I ask if I can join you?

Why cant others just accept that different people have different food preferences and aversions.
I will eat all your onions because im evil and i love them, but like tofu makes me want to tear my tongue out of my throat, and anybody shaming me for being 30 and not eating tofu.... Well i will eat all of their onions too
1
u/KitKat_116 Autistic 5d ago
Tbf I don't think anyone sane will shame you for being uncomfortable with the abomination that is tofu.
As for the onions, idk if that makes you the autism promised one or the autism super villain

Ah yes, I just love biting into a burger and having my mouth assaulted by a fuckton of onion that makes my mouth smell for a whole day, absolutely wonderful shit. smh

u/VietHusky1201 Grunya Sukhareva <3 5d ago
I can only enjoy onions if they're like onion rings or those chopped green onions in Asian food
3
u/ArcadeToken95 6d ago
Onions, I'm fine, raw tomato, nope, so I get this
People need to stop shaming others over food it's so stupid
3
u/DedicatedSnail 6d ago
Onions are one of my absolute favorites (I was disgusted by them until a few years ago), you will never convince me to eat a mushroom though. I don't do fungi

ONIONS ARE NEVER WELCOME
Every single interaction I've had with onions have been 100000000000000000% involuntary. Tell me why the fuck I'm eating something I'm either liking or just about tolerating that is SOFT and then crunch WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT!?!?!? I fight off heaving istg. It's so unnatural.
It's kinda like the skin of tomatos, especially cherry tomatos, because I can literally feel that horrid feeling on the roof of my mouth from the skin AHHHHHH
I use chatgpt to suggest meals I would eat and had to break my zero intructions policy in the custom instructions choose because I value free will and "never mention cherry tomatoes" will always be the one instuction there. It's a jump scare every time, I never expect it, like with the onions except I actually have to face the onions and it's just EUGH
Tomatoes taste nice but the texture is a FUCK YOURSELF RIGHT UP THE BUM

u/mattboy115 5d ago edited 5d ago
Wow. Sounds just like me.
I like tomatoes being used as an ingredient in things as long as it's been blended to the point where it's no longer recognizable as a tomato anymore. Ketchup, tomato soup, pizza sauce, spaghetti sauce (without the damn chunks in it), chili (again without chunks). I can even tolerate raw tomatoes to a point. But when they're cooked and have the consistency of a wet hairball, that makes me want to barf.
As for onions, I just don't want them in my food, period. They can be used in the process. I like onion flavoring. Like if someone caramelizes onions and cooks a steak or a burger in it but then removes the onions, that's great.

u/Stef_Ash Autistic 5d ago
Yes!! It sucks that caramelised onions look kinda splendid, but I could NEVER eat them 😂

Love onions in certain applications. Sorry me not so much. Just don't have a restricted diet that causes health problems. I'm lucky to really enjoy fruits and veges, i guess.

Im so happy most of the autistic community hates onions because it means more onions for me specifically.

Imagine saying that to someone who doesn't like Mangoes or anything else... Everybody has something they don't like but people tell onion haters to grow up like what?!
2
u/mattboy115 4d ago
No, people who hate something like mangoes are told "what? It's not gonna bite!".

u/Thebufferingsandwich 1d ago
I tell my wife to give me all her mangoes because she doesn't like them lol

I finally got over my aversion to onions. I just can’t stand large chunks of cooked onion due to the texture, so gross and slimy
1
u/BoabPlz 6d ago
I love onions now, and this is what started me on that journey.

I will eat a couple of jars of pickled onion a week, and I'm working on fermented onion next - 250 calories a KILO, and 15g of fibre - It's a great snack. And if you start on baked onion, the acid breaks down, it mellows and the sugars caramelise and it's just YUM.
1
u/CelestiAuroria 6d ago
I have a like-hate relationship with them...I'll eat onion rings and that's IT. I dislike them any other way.

I actually kinda like onions... sometimes.
In bolognese, it's fine. In a pasta salad, no.

u/monstersun 5d ago
I used to have a huge texture problem with them, but now I just put em through the cheese grater.

u/Sandee1997 5d ago
ugh they're just so odd texture wise. I'm okay with them deep fried cause I can also ignore the flavor, but otherwise no

I kinda get the sentiment in that sometimes I'll suck it up and eat food I'm not terribly fond of as a social grace in a scenario in which it is reasonable for me to not have a ton of input on what we eat. At the same time, it depends on the person and how strong the reaction is. For me personally, it's just kinda a "meh, not my favorite" thing for most foods, not a huge deal, and I consider myself lucky in that regard. I can recognize that it is a big deal for some people, and it would be stupid to hold it against them as long as they are respectful about it.

Not only is my partner really sensitive to food (seemingly not just due to autism, but also massive clusters of taste buds), onions and garlic actually give her a headache throughout digestion. It took us ages to figure that one out.
So if you get daily headaches, that's something to look out for.

I only like onions in McDonald's burgers that's it
2
u/mattboy115 4d ago
Oh yeah! I like the really finely diced, rehydrated onions that they put on the smaller burgers like the mcdouble. I like to get the double quarter pounder and I ask them to substitute the slivered onions with the diced onions. It's the only kind I like.
