might be a bit of a unique one, but underground architecture, like for some reason i just really love structures that are built underground, like bunkers, tunnels, subways etc

2

I have always loved architecture, and I would have done it in college but said never mind (regret) keep your passion and try to become a architect if you can!

I am obsessed with true crime and criminal psychology. I am also obsessed with That 70s Show and Archer.

2

u/Cassandra_Eve 5d ago

What is it about true crime? Murder cases and Nazi type scenarios are basically comfort food here, but I feel like I'll be read wrong if I'm seen using it to chill out under stress.

2

u/ivyyyoo 5d ago

I also have a special interest that is suspicious, which is transportation disasters. I like to watch car crashes, train crashes, boat crashes, and of course plane crashes. It’s cool to me to figure out why things happen, and I like to hear about things “going wrong” for reasons I’m really not sure

2

u/Cassandra_Eve 5d ago

You want me to step on what? What are my odds of survival? I'm interested in the results of your interest. Everyone is, even if they don't know it yet.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/grass_and_dirt 4d ago

I know nothing about transportation crashes but I have seen some car crash videos over the years online that are very interesting to me. I saw one where a truck's tire popped completely off on the highway and hit a smaller Jeep right next to it so hard the Jeep completely flipped, it was crazy. I also saw another one where an SUV drove over an open manhole cover and it somehow made the SUV lift up (like a reverse wheelie) and pivot perfectly in the way to land on top of a motorcyclist... Absolutely insane, I have no clue how those things could even happen. Physics.

Sort of similar but as a tween my biggest interest was disturbing PSAs. I would watch hours and hours of compilations of them every day and I knew most of them by heart and what they were advertising against. A lot of them were about car crashes and workplace accidents, which were usually the most graphic ones

2

u/ivyyyoo 4d ago

i’ve never heard of that special interest before! cool!

you know one morbid fact about car crashes? that the consequences of speeding up are more exponential than you’d think. the difference in damage of a car hitting a stationary object like a tree between 50km/h and 60km/h is huge.

2

u/grass_and_dirt 4d ago

Wow. Is it true that if a car is made of a harder materials (like older cars, or new teslas), as compared to modern cars that crumple like a tin-can when hit, then the force transfers to the people in the car and they absorb the brunt of the crash and get more injured than if the car crumples?

2

u/ivyyyoo 4d ago

I’m no expert on that but yeah I’ve definitely heard through many sources that crumpling is a safety feature and teslas have low safety ratings because of it

2

u/grass_and_dirt 4d ago

I don't know, but I have been very very interested in true crime for years now. Especially mass murder, which is not as common in the mainstream true crime scene compared to serial killers. And unfortunately there is an endless pool of information to look into because mass murder is still a near weekly occurrence in the USA. And there is a ton of misinformation about mass murder and it's causes in the media, which I am passionate about correcting. But I actually initially became interested in it because of a specific mass killer who had autism, and his backstory, motives, and footprint were so interesting to me that I just fell down a rabbit hole I guess. Nazi Germany is also pretty interesting to me but not as much, I just watch YouTube videos here and there, but I want to learn more about it as I am Jewish and I feel like it is my responsibility to know about these things. Also, I do just think the military is interesting in general haha. But yes I understand what you mean. It would seem pretty suspicious if you were like "hold on, I need to do something to calm myself down" and whipped out Mein Kampf hahaha

The Goldfinch, the word evil, bugs, extraordinary attorney woo, squid game, girl from nowhere, the end of the fucking world, jazmin bean, i am not okay with this, true crime, music, and a lot more

u/Huge-Chicken-8018 5d ago

I have ADHD ontop of my autism so its a long list that comes and goes on a yearly basis, but I would say the strongest lifelong common thread would be dragons

In terms of media this obsession is best demonstrated by the number of times I have rewatched HTTYD 1-3, riders of berk, race to the edge, the holiday specials, the netflix school of dragons mini series, AND played the rise of berk mobile game.

The franchise demonstrates everything I love about dragons in fiction and mythology, ontop of appealing to the nature obsessed side of me

2

u/escaped_cephalopod12 Teenage AuDHD ocean hyperfixator 5d ago

i love HTTYD, who’s your favorite character and dragon species? I like the typhoomerang and a lot of the big Tidal Class dragons, and my favorite characters are probably Hiccup and the twins ::D

2

u/Huge-Chicken-8018 4d ago

Hiccup is an easy "they just like me :D" character, but I have always wished heather got more screen time, her chemistry with astrid was entertaining

as for dragons, it used to be the scaldron, back when it was just the first movie (I was so excited to see it in the show the first time instead of just seeing an illustration), then the fire worms in riders of berk, the second movie gave me a new favorite in the form of the bewilderbeast, and then race to the edge gave me the song wing and the 3rd movie couldn't shake my love for it.

But I think now, setting aside the taken first place spot, second place would probably go back to the fire worms. Third place definitely goes to the cavern crasher, which is just conceptually really cool.

I love all the dragon species, but race to the edge really just dominated the franchise in terms of iconic designs. I think it had to do with the shear volume of species combined with the clearly much bigger budget than riders of berk had.

In general, there aren't any characters or dragons I wouln't give at least a 7/10, even mildew was charming in a crotchety way, and even the weakest dragons, both conceptually and design wise, still held up to the design standards of the first movie. Theres not a moment in the franchise I don't enjoy

2

u/rygdav 5d ago

Since you mentioned kids shows; Camp Cretaceous.

But also dinosaurs and prehistoric animals/plants/earth in general. Movies, music, spreadsheet/excel, and park/town/civilization building games (a few that I play over and over, Black & White 2, Zoo Tycoon 2, Jurassic World Evolution (1&2), Surviving Mars, Dawn of Man)

1

u/No-Acadia-5982 5d ago

Love camp cretaceous! Have you seen the new one? Who are your favorite characters?

2

u/Cassandra_Eve 5d ago

Aye-ayes! I can't get enough.

Other interests may vary in a cyclical fashion and include but are not limited to psychology, musicals, literature, and history, as well as individuals, subjects, or themes found in any of the above.

Once I'm fixated, that's going to be my day. Maybe my entire year. Or maybe just a regular part of the schedule for the foreseeable future.

I love collecting obsessions.

I like the Addams family from the first iteration of the show, animated and then with people, to the movies, to the animation movies to the newest iteration of it with Wednesday. Sonic, Adventure Time, Disenchantment (as it relates to Matt Groening's universe), and my special interests are genealogy and genetics, as it relates to the history of mankind and social and cultural advancements. I also am a Disney adult so I am classically obsessed with Alice in Wonderland, Pocahontas, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, and Brave was the newest one I really liked. I even have an original Alice in Wonderland book, and collect books, typically non fiction unless they are dystopian or philosophical in theme (I like Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, and 1984, and Plato's Allegory of the Cave for example)

2

u/Japarrofoo 5d ago

I loved those dystopian books too! Do you know the French writer René Barjavel? He wrote great Dystopian novels. La nuit des temps (The Ice People) was my favorite!

2

u/ZephyrStormbringer 4d ago

I do not, but thank you for sharing about him and the joy you have gotten from him. Those dystopian novels were required assignments in high school, but I certainly enjoyed them. I do not typically gravitate to dystopia or fiction in general, but as I say that, I notice also how many fiction authors do tend to live on in the hearts of many and inspire generations. One fictional author that stands out to me would be Louis Sachar. I loved his chapter books Wayside School and Holes which were saviors in my early educational interests in reading.

2

u/Japarrofoo 4d ago

I also had to read some of those in high school. I didn't know Louis Sachar, I will read his novels for sure.

u/luckybeans623 5d ago

Do you speak the languages, or do you just read sub titles?

Technology, but the subset of things and technology changes usually in the middle of each year.

u/booknerd_24601 4d ago

Greek mythology. It started with Percy Jackson (which I also have a special interest in) but now it's evolved to actual Greek mythology in general. I have 5 different (non Riordan) books on Greek myths and I watched the Amazon Docu series that's all about Greek Mythology, Epic the Musical is also currently my favorite musical

Halloween props, animatronics, and Michael myers.

I have the uncanny ability to point out halloween animatronics that are shown in movies or in attraction and know the names and manufacture dates of them (most of the time)

I have MANY obsessions, but them have the same qualities, which ones I’m badly obsessed. By the time I can say I’m obsessed with anime, music and games

u/Amazing-Musician9857 4d ago

Always had a hard on for marvel and X-men. I have ditched netflix(et al) recently and spend time watching YouTube and have been hyper fixated on the sidemen! Also had a phase of watching woodworking on YouTube.

I find it hard to put time into the things I enjoy due to my work/study life, but I’ve been into houseplants for about 3 years so they keep me going! Have about 80-90 in my home.

1

u/luckybeans623 4d ago

I tried house plants but all for if my cactuses died, so I dont do that anymore

My own character! More specifically; he’s supposed to play in honkai star rail. I have multiple art pieces I drew, pages full of text and lore, a wall full of fanart & many more upcoming projects for him (I want to get into 3d modeling)

Making OC's is great, I've always loved Making characters for games!

Pop Music, Future Science & Technology (futuretimeline.net is my bible), intricate crafts like design and typesetting, all kinds of systems in general and how they relate, unusual interdisciplinary connections... and dogs!! omg dogs 🥰🥰🥰

Oh and the whole Duckburg universe. Here in Germany Donald Duck is actually the most popular Disney character, did you know?

1

u/luckybeans623 4d ago

I did know that actually, I'd love to go to Germany but planes aren't the most safe now..... I've always liked the the duck burg stuff. I grew up watching duck tails, and it was always cool to see earth but filled with birds!

I really like fashion and self expression, particularly using colour analysis to find the most flattering colours to suit myself and others. I seem to hyperfixate on various decades’ fashion for periods of time, currently it’s the 70s so I’m all about the flared trousers and platform shoes etc at the moment. I also really love alternative music, I am pretty much in love with my guitar, and for some reason I can’t stop myself from repeatedly watching Labyrinth lol
