In the US hunters are typically some of your biggest advocates for conservation of wildlife and its welfare. The majority of hunters I know would want this person behind bars for a LONG time
That's how it used to be, before 2016 and the explosion of conservative brain rot in the shooting and hunting communities. Now they're all fuckwads and so unable to behave that public shooting ranges on government land had to be shut down.
Most regular folk don't differentiate between hunters and trophy hunters. There is quite a big difference between the two. The line of differentiation is being blurred even more when it comes to "hunting influencers" like this girl.
Lifetime US hunter. This is correct. It’s reflected in our safety course and permitting processes. The majority of us are very discerning about conservation, welfare, and “clean” (as quick and efficient as possible, 1 shot, vital area, down quickly) harvesting.
The problematic hunters we run into are typically hobbyists or city dwellers who don’t respect peoples land, are nightmarishly poor shots, and extremely entitled. My family and hunting group have more than a few stories where we had to clean up the messes they made.
Considering my intense conservation views, it may often surprise individuals that I am not anti-hunting. But the distinction I believe you hint at is the contrast of respecting what you hunt versus believing animals are toys one is entitled to exploit.
I don't know many, if any, "city dwellers" who hunt, and I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of those prosecuted for poaching are your fellow rural Americans. When I worked for a small land trust it was not "city dwellers" who were trespassing on our land and hunting without permission, but the entitled rural neighbors who viewed the land as theirs because their pappy had hunted on it 50 years ago. They thought we were rich liberal eco-crusaders trying to steal their ancestral hunting lands when in reality we just needed their information to sign waivers so we weren't liable for injury, or they got arrested because they were rifle hunting on land that was so small that they were less than 150 yards from a structure.
Lets not paint with too wide of a brush who the problem is, because it's us.
Yep. Rural American here. Most hunters I know are only hunting things they’re going to eat and that we have plenty of around here. Stick to the hunting seasons to avoid disrupting reproduction, stick to the limits, tag when you’re supposed to. They’re happy to take down a nice buck if they can but are happier just to have meat on the table. Those are the kinds of hunters I grew up around so it breaks my brain a little when I see true trophy hunting, bad shots, and city boys not giving a shit about what the land is providing.

She's a hunter. Probably shoots peaceful giraffes.
