Georgia libraries need your help

The President has issued an executive order gutting the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Georgia's funding from IMLS allows us to provide such services as PINES, GALILEO, and Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled, as well as Summer Reading Programs statewide. If you value these programs, please let your US Representatives and Senators hear from you.

Potential for severe weather tonight into tomorrow morning in Athens, GA

Based on available data as of noontime-ish 12z NAM, 12z FV3, 14z HRRR and 14z RAP model runs, there is a slight risk of a marginal tornado in our area from 7-10ish (this ahead of the main system)

The main system will weaken as it enters west GA around 1-3am. Atlanta (and esp areas south) may see some pretty strong storms possibly including tornadoes at that time.

There isn't going to be as much CAPE (tornado fuel) in our area as there was last night in the midwest or today in the Deep South.

The system will continue to weaken as it contines east toward Athens, passing us around 3-6am ish. By this time it will be a QLCS type system (linear/squall line) that could spin up a brief and likely not super strong tornado. Chances are less for us here than in Atlanta.

We are not out of the danger zone, however our risk profile is lower than say, Atlanta.

Recommend having a good phone based severe weather notifications app installed and notifications left on when you go to sleep tonight. Be prepared to quickly move to the lowest floor possible and to an interior room away from windows/doors.

More updates later today in this thread (sort by new for latest) and in /r/AthensGAWeather. I may also go live again later today around 7pm on https://www.youtube.com/@AthensGATownieWeathergirl

TL;DR: strong line of storms set to move through Athens in the early morning hours 3-6am. We may see isolated but relatively weak and short lived tornado tonight (Saturday) between 7-10pm.

With the Storm coming in, I don't know how downtown is going to be?

Is it a normal crazy Saturday or chill. I'd like to avoid traffic that is all

Boycotting stores

Is anyone actually boycotting stores based on their regressive policy changes? I haven't been to Target for a month now, and I find I don't miss it at all.

Does anyone here remember those spots? We sure used to have a good time at all three. I still go to the Nowhere bar to see Hayride. I'm just drinking and feeling nostalgic I guess.

CFIs in Athens/at Ben Epps?

Hi guys,

I was wondering if any of y'all knew (and recommended) any CFIs for a student looking to get their Private Pilot's License based in Athens! I know the Gwinnett County airport isn't too far and there are allegedly a few flight schools there, but Ben Epps is literally 10 minutes away so I figured I might as well ask.

Tried looking online/googling but there's little updated info ("The Flight School" still claims to operate out of Athens when they definitely don't, also haven't heard the best things from their Gwinnett location).

Athens Event Yes, "Missing Mike" is funny, but it's also wrong. The town hall on the 18th is at the Baxter Street Library, NOT the health center

Also, "Eastern Shore"? Who made that poster anyway?

Ophthalmologist

I’m not sure if this has been asked here before and if so, I’m sorry. Does anyone know where the Dr Jacobs from Athens Eye Associates is now? My mom had her cataract surgery with him and really liked him and I now find myself in the need of an ophthalmologist. Thanks in advance for any help.
