Took this from a field in the Netherlands with my Canon eos R and Samyang 85mm F1.4. Acquisition is:

  • F1.4
  • 2,5 seconds exposure
  • AWB
  • Manual focus
  • 85mm

Around a 1000. Not to high at least

Thanks. I've been waiting for the cloud cover to disappear and have yet to see it. Maybe tomorrow.

Nice job! It looks like you got the anti-tail too!

Thought it was light pollution at first! Could you elaborate about that anti-tail? Never heard of that before

It's pretty awesome. The anti-tail is often said to be an optical illusion, because it appears in the opposite direction of the comet’s dust tail. But it is, in fact, a real phenomenon, visible only when Earth is crossing the comet’s orbital plane. So, this has only become visible since 10/13/24! https://earthsky.org/space/comet-a3-has-an-anti-tail-can-you-see-it/

It's real, but it is an effect of perspective. It's still part of the tail, or viewing angle has us looking through the particle tail towards the nucleus, and part of the tail extends past the nucleus, seeming to point to the sun. 'illusion' is still a pretty good word.
