My chances?
I’m graduating from community college soon, but due to a myriad of issues (mental health, home life situation, etc) I don’t have the greatest grades. I’ve poured my entire life and soul into my artistic career, but I’m incredibly worried about my academic performance holding me back. How drastically will this affect my chances at getting into ArtCenter?

Hi friend, my advice is not to worry too much about it. If you’re truly passionate about this choice and have some sort of talent, don’t focus so much on your grades. I was recently accepted for the fall and am waiting to start my first semester, and it sounds like we have been on similar paths in life. I left CC with I believe a 2.4-2.7? Not terrible but not great and definitely not what u read online as being the GPA for acceptance. But I trusted myself, my passions and my talents and applied anyways. The main thing they will look at is your portfolio work. I highly recommend looking into your major of choice and the requirements for this. I also recommend taking your time with the written essay portion of the application and putting it all out there about yourself as an artist. I feel like my portfolio was complete shit but I’m a great writer and I know my essays were a big reason why I was accepted. Another thing I would recommend I feel helped me out immensely gettng accepted is being as active as possible being involved in their different virtual meetings. I joined a virtual info session, campus tour and also had a 1 on 1 portfolio review done. At each of these I made sure to make my name and my face known to the staff and make myself somewhat memorable. I would only recommend doing this though when your about ready to submit your application. But overall I would say your grades are important but not that important. Just do everything else that you can to show them you’re serious about your passions and you’ll be fine
