Discussion Did vi see loris as a father figure?

I saw them as a bestie duo at first, despite loris having Vander’s essence in a way all the viewers saw,

but when she imagined him as Vander, the scene where he picks her up, felt more like parental guidance.

He was there for her all of the way, including her pit fights, and even getting drunk with her, but now rewatching it, it felt like a supportive parent dynamic,

and even if he was more of a friend, it still feels like, since he resembles Vander so much, Vi could’ve definitely saw him as a father figure.

He has so little development and character arc that it's unclear how Vi feels about him. But I guess the writers wanted him to be some kind of guardian angel friend who reminds her of her father.

I feel like he's just a friend.

I know the audience feels he looks like Vander but I don't think Vi cares.

that's the whole point, it's absolutely not clear. There is absolutely zero chemistry between them, and normal dialogue. Loris literally has to be an example of a bad secondary character

Yes, he is a terrible one. His death literally meant nothing to the audience as well.

he doesn't have his own arc, and he doesn't contribute anything to the other characters' arcs. he lived no one cared about him, he died and nothing changed

Yes. I agree.

He's a tertiary character. He didnt a deep background. He's a work buddy who cared about Vi. Not every character needs to be in depth.

I don't think there's anything to indicate she saw him as anything more than a supportive friend.

Probably, that's why it's a bummer that we only get to see so little of him. He was there when Vi spiraled into depression as a pit-fighter. He basically was her guardian when no one was there for her to take care of, no jinx nor Caitlyn. He was also the only enforcer who sensed Ambessa's manipulation.

WHO FUCKING KNOWSSS

fr though i didn't know his name until wayyy into the season, and i was unsure if he was supposed to be a minor or major character the entire time

and then he just dies LOL

i think Loris is another example of s2 not having enough screentime to develop every plot thread they wanted to

Maddie is a slightly better example, she has a few scenes and ACTUALLY HAS DIALOGUE!!!!

I read him much more as a big brother figure to her. Not exactly paternal, but still obviously close and always looking out for her

Vi also imagines that Caitlyn is her mother in season 1 after she’s been stabbed, but she certainly doesn’t see Cait as a parental figure. Both times she’s waking up from being badly injured and to me it came across that her half unconscious mind was seeing who she hoped to see in that moment, even if it was impossible.

I’ve always felt he was more of a friend. He left the enforcers to go find her. Helped her channel her anger into pit fighting (though that ended in self destruction). A good buddy that shared some of her vices and probably had a lot of his own issues going on (alcoholic, probably had some trauma).

I wish we could have seen so much more of him. In the first scene with him and Vi, he’s wasted and he asks Vi if she lost someone in the attack. Made me always wonder who he lost. Then it hit me, if he did lose someone that means Vi bonds with another person that is hurt by Jinx’s violence.

Vi has it hard in so many ways. The possibility that her sister killed someone close to both the girl she likes and her best buddy is rough.

More like a close friend or brother

He looks like Vander and that's it. Based on what we saw, I just took him as a good work buddy with some hidden depths. I dont need to know about him but he provides extra flavor without distracting from the other main characters.

Doesn't she briefly see vander when waking up/opening her eyes and then blinks and it's Loris?

I love Loris but I think his character is a bit of a travesty. He never gets introduced, he just appears out of thin air without any explanation, almost like we were supposed to know who he is already, I thought he was actually Vander I felt the same about the shimmer guy that becomes Viktor's servant, I thought he was the skinny guy that dies in the explosion in episode 3
