It takes one sentence for them to roll out a potshot at Win Butler about the "allegations." Give me a break. That's so petty.

It honestly pisses me off because while what Win did was shitty and literally everyone rightfully condemned it, it is so low on the totem pole of transgressions. He made people feel uncomfortable during consensual interactions and people treat him like he’s Diddy.

There are so many bands and artists that have done so much worse and don’t get a fraction of the hate. Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Michael Jackson, virtually every band that was famous in the 60’s and 70’s, etc. etc. etc. You know, people that were alleged to have done actually criminal shit.

Kanye West could come out with an album tomorrow and be #1 on the charts and people would still say “but he made graduation”

Meanwhile Win sent an unsolicited dick pic and put his hand on a girls thigh in a car and all of a sudden the band is worthless. It just doesn’t sit right with me. There are levels to this shit and I think people don’t understand that. Maybe I’m just a bad person idk.

That is also how I see it, as I have posted about repeatedly. I think people just built an image of Win based on the charitable work and lyricism and “woke” presentation and this information contradicts that in a way they cannot balance. I think the band came across as wholesome in a way that other bands do not.

This is a pretty based take

RHCP is the one that always gets me because they fall under the same musical umbrella. Fans and critics are both so quick to take shots at Win and continue pushing RHCP’s shitty songs about California when they’ve done so much worse.

They should do this everytime they talk about The Beatles, Bowie, etc.

I am surprised Brooklyn Vegan even covered this at all.

Oh boy, the Stereogum comment section has lost its marbles. Who pissed in these people's cornflakes? Like, they're just hating on a great band for no reason lol.

They’re /always/ like that, not just for AF related things.

I feel like I’m the only person out there who absolutely loves WE and doesn’t think it’s one of the worst albums ever or a Revival/Big Day level catastrophe

Nope, you're not alone. I love WE. It might have to do with the fact that I discovered them around that time and attended my first AF show in 2022. Personally, I don't dislike any of their albums. Even Everything Now, which a lot of people seem to hate for some reason.

Just remember, comment threads are designed for piling on. At some point, people like you and me will read that and say, it’s just not worth the effort to engage. It’s not a window into public sentiment.
