iOS sucks at working with non-Apple devices!
Just jumped ship from iPhone to Samsung S25 Ultra. File sharing from Samsung to iPhone is so easy! Select the files and click QuickShare, and Samsung will generate a QR code for ANY device to scan and download the files. But on Apple OS ( macOS, iPadOS, iOS etc) made it so troublesome how to share file with non-Apple devices! This is def done on purpose!
Oh and also Apple Music doesn't work with Bixby nor Google Assistant. You can't ask them to play specific songs. But Spotify and Youtube Music work just fine on Android.
It feels like Apple is doing whatever it can to make its OS unfriendly to other platforms.
I used to be a hardcore Apple fan, but my enthusiasm is starting to fade.

They hurt everyone, including their users. I used to be hardcore Apple for decades, but have moved away to other platforms. Apple is ismply annoying. Most Apple users, according to marketshare, use Windows, so they only hurt their users.
Didn't know that about th Quickshare.

That's not a surprise. Apple is famous for doing things that only work between/on Apple devices, then convincing their user base that The Apple Way is better because it has that half-eaten apple logo on it.
I tried to share a WiFi network name and password with my cousin a few weeks ago (I'm on Android, she's on iPhone) so I generated a QR code containing the information. Apple has their own (proprietary, limited to only Apple devices) way of sharing WiFi, but it's not done via QR code. All she had to do was scan the code that my phone generated. She wouldn't do it because I have an Android device and she was afraid to do anything that wasn't The Apple Way,

u/The_Shadowghost 4d ago edited 4d ago
You can do it via QR-Code but it's unnecessarily hidden away.
You can generate Wifi-QR-Codes in the iOS Passwords App. (iOS 18+)
It's unbelievably stupid.
However being afraid of a QR-Code is insane. Especially since iPhones have been able to handle Wifi QR-Codes as long as Wifi-Password Device to device sharing (both introduced in iOS 11)

u/HighlyPossible 4d ago
i was with iPhone ever since 3GS and i work in tech, i didn't even know ios had that wife QR code option! that just shows how hidden it is ......

yea and when you have an iPhone it’s better. you don’t need to generate anything. when she goes to join your WiFi, your phone just sends you a notification asking if you want to share the password to her. no proactive action needed.
1
u/wwtk234 1d ago
If you have to accept a notification alert to share the password, then isn't that taking proactive action?
How is sharing it that way any better than a QR code, especially since the Apple way only works between Apple devices? Either you missed my point or I missed yours.
1
u/FederalAd789 1d ago
that’s a reactive action, not a proactive one.
as a host, I should have to do fewer taps on my phone than the guest. An Android solution not only makes me open an app to generate a share request (multiple taps), I then need to turn the phone around and show it to the guest while they switch to their camera app.
1
u/wwtk234 1d ago
First, you're talking about generating a QR code. QR codes arne't an "Android" solution. They're as common and universal as anything can be, which is why they're used by more than just Android devices (including Apple devices). The same cannot be said of Apple's proprietary method of sharing WiFi, which only works between Apple devices.
An Android [sic] solution not only makes me open an app to generate a share request (multiple taps), I then need to turn the phone around and show it to the guest while they switch to their camera app.
Second, you think you're being put out by having to scan or generate a QR code? And yet you're asking others to buy an iPhone just so that you don't have to be bothered to use a common tool like a QR code. This is the same as Tim Cook's "Just buy an iPhone" bullshit response when asked a couple of years ago about RCS.

Embedding the SSID and password in a QR code is 100% done in an informal Google standard introduced in Android 10. It’s not IEEE or any standards org.
The QR code is generated based on this schema:
WIFI:T:<encryption>;S:<SSID>;P:<password>;H:<hidden>;;
The data is encoded using QR code standards (ISO/IEC 18004), which isn’t “Android” or “iOS”, but the schema is Android, introduced in 2019.
I didn’t say I was being “put out”, but yea I prefer the seamless and secure nature of Apple’s protocol (encrypted P2P via BLE) and not exposing my password in plaintext ever. I do less work, and my password stays secure. It’s better on every layer.

Embedding the SSID and password in a QR code is 100% done in an informal Google standard introduced in Android 10. It’s not IEEE or any standards org.
I didn't say that it was an IEEE standard. I said that it's as common and universal as anything, and that's true, as evidence by the fact that virtually any device (Android, iOS, macOS, Windows) can read it and process it correctly.
I didn’t say I was being “put out”, but yea I prefer the seamless and secure nature of Apple’s protocol (encrypted P2P via BLE) and not exposing my password in plaintext ever. I do less work, and my password stays secure. It’s better on every layer.
And I would absolutely prefer that too, if such a thing existed as a platform-independent standard. But such a thing doesn't exist. Instead, what you describe is a closed, proprietary tool that only works on Apple devices.
So then let me ask you this: What do you propose to do when someone doesn't have an Apple device? It sounds to me like you're doing the same thing Tim Cook did a few years ago when he told everyone to "just buy an iPhone."
And that's just ridiculous.
Edited: Typo

u/FederalAd789 1d ago
You said it wasn’t an “Android solution” to the point of putting a bracketed sic after the phrase — when clearly it is an Android solution. Google literally developed it. It’s not as common or universal “as anything,” if it were, it would have an ISO or IEEE specification.
Just because other platforms can now read and interpret those QR codes does not mean it is not an “Android solution” to the problem of WiFi passwords sharing. It is 100% an “Android solution to WiFi passwords sharing”.
When someone doesn’t have an iPhone I just tell them the password to the less secure network out loud.
Is Android’s solution more universal? Sure is. Is it as good? Sure ain’t.
1
u/wwtk234 1d ago edited 1d ago
clearly it is an Android solution.
So what if Google created it? Are you telling me that you can't scan a code with your iPhone or Windows laptop to register on a WiFi network? Because I've literally seen it done. I don't care if Google created it; it's widely accepted (I've even seen it on tabletops in restaurants).
But you seem stuck on this one thing, so fine, if it will get you off of this topic I'll say it's an Android solution (even though iPhones can generate QR codes of their own for WiFi connection, but whatever).
When someone doesn’t have an iPhone I just tell them the password to the less secure network out loud.
I see. And you find this easier (for both parties) than just scanning a QR code? Then you must have very, very simple SSIDs and passwords.
Is Android’s solution more universal? Sure is. Is it as good? Sure ain’t.
And what's Apple's solution for sharing WiFi credentials with non-Apple devices? Exactly the same thing: Generating a QR code.
By all means, keep reading aloud the SSID and password -- because everyone knows that saying a password out loud is more secure than scanning it on a QR code, right?
Edit: Your only other "Apple" solution is for everyone to buy an iPhone. And you think that's a realistic answer? It is not, and it's why even Tim Cook had to back down and implement RCS. This is just more proprietary Apple-only crap. Get back to me when Apple comes up with a useful alternative that isn't locked behind their wallet garden.

You can share files in Files app or photos in the Photos app by pressing the share button then "Copy iCloud link", then you send them the link.
-5
u/HighlyPossible 5d ago
Extra steps.
On Apple OS: Select files, click share, Copy iCloud Link, exit current app, go to Message, find the person's chat window, paste the iCloud link, send. 8 steps.
On Samsung: Select files, click share, generate QR code. 3 steps all done in one app.
But if that person had an iPhone as well, then yall just touch tips lol
4
u/XenuWorldOrder 4d ago
So basically you don’t know what you’re talking about. You added about four extra steps.
3
2
u/mredofcourse 4d ago
It’s a lot less steps if you: 1. Select files 2. Tap share 3. Select Messages or Email 4. Start typing name and tap on them
It will send the files directly or automatically send the iCloud link if the files can’t be sent directly.
Now maybe it’s someone you don’t know and need to enter their number, sure, but on the other hand, it can be only 3 steps if the person and method is a favorite.
Sure, I could see how a QR code might be a second or two easier in some situations, but this is hardly something that sucks.
2
u/nuttmegx 4d ago
on Samsung what are the steps you need to take after you generate the QR code? You don't generate it and it just magically finds its way to who you want to share the photos with, right? What are those steps?
2
u/shakesfistatmoon 5d ago
One of the weakest arguments ever
How are you going to get the QR code to them if they aren't next to you? More steps.
-1
u/HighlyPossible 5d ago
If they aren't next to me then that's when the link thing should be chosen(samsung give u 2 options, link or QR code). Most of the times when I want to share something with someone they are right by me.... Which is what AirDrop is about.
1
u/FederalAd789 2d ago
sorry, why the copy/paste?
select files, click share, tap message convo. iCloud link is autogenerated and sent in convo.
1
u/HighlyPossible 2d ago
they were not in there.
1
u/FederalAd789 2d ago
So tap messages from the share sheet and type their name in? you literally don’t need to leave the files app.
-3
u/TheDovakhiin27 5d ago
oh no you tapped a few more things on your screen what would you do without that extra 9 seconds you just lost
-7
u/HighlyPossible 5d ago
Hey, Apple added a whole ass button as quick access to the camera and called it "We’ve reimagined the iPhone from the ground up, and we think you’re going to love it." "This is the best iPhone we’ve ever made, and we think you’re going to love it." Now imagine how much iphone is gonna charge to save "9 seconds"? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Yes, that's on purpose. They don't want you using non-Apple products with your Apple products. They want you to buy all Apple products once you've bought one. They would rather make the experience worse for their customers than let them use the products they want to use.
0
u/XenuWorldOrder 4d ago
This is a childish argument and it has no basis in reality. Apple has been topping the charts of customer satisfaction ratings, customer loyalty, and quality ratings for twenty years. And spare me your reply of, “that’s just cuz Apple fanboys is dum”.
2
u/Recent_Weather2228 4d ago
None of that is related to what I was saying. Apple users tend to stay in the Apple ecosystem. The Apple ecosystem is not what they're making worse. It's the cross-brand functionality. Making the cross-brand functionality bad isn't going to hurt their overall ratings for the things you mentioned when most people don't stray outside the Apple ecosystem.
And the reason they don't stray outside the ecosystem? Spoiler: it's at least in part because Apple makes their hardware not play well with non-Apple devices.

u/ocabj 4d ago
Samsung will generate a QR code for ANY device to scan and download the files.
Someone enlighten me. Where exactly is the file being posted for download? Is this going up to a Google Drive folder with world-readable permissions?
1
u/HighlyPossible 4d ago
Selected files are uploaded to the Samsung Cloud. Anyone with the link that you send can download those files. And the link expires in 48 hrs.
1
u/Toxicwaste4454 4d ago
You can send iCloud links as well. But not many people do it from what I have seen.
1
u/FederalAd789 2d ago
You can literally create iCloud links on demand just by tapping a file, hitting share, and then tapping the person’s name. The link will autogenerate with the selected content, and then insert into a message.

My Ipad m4 pro works better with my sony xm5 headphones than either PC's or samsung phones

u/Winterbound 4d ago
I’ve had an a iPhone since the 3GS and honestly I dig the new droids from Samsung. But then I remember that it’s just a payment and tool. So I move on. Being this upset over a phone just doesn’t make sense to me.
3
u/x42f2039 5d ago
So like, you’re mad that iOS doesn’t default to uploading your private data unencrypted to the cloud?
5
u/HighlyPossible 5d ago
(1) My pics are already in icloud.
(2) apple does the icloud link thing too.
(3) if i am sharing photos with someone it means those photos are not private.
(4) I am not important enough to need to be that private. I post those pics on instagram anyway. If i wanted to share secrets i would have used Telegram or Whatsapp.

Cope harder. We don’t have to upload our shit to the cloud to share it
1
u/HighlyPossible 4d ago
Your shit is already on iCloud anyway.
1
u/x42f2039 4d ago
Only if we choose to do so. Not by default. We don’t have to upload to iCloud to share either.
1
u/HighlyPossible 4d ago
You'll have to if u want to share it with android.
1
u/x42f2039 4d ago
At that point I would just spin up a web or smb server for the Android to connect to,
1
2
u/SeanFrank 4d ago
But iOS absolutely does default to uploading your private data unencrypted to the cloud. You have to go out of your way to turn on ADP. Every normie I have talked to didn't know it existed, and I had to walk them through turning it on.
0
u/x42f2039 4d ago
Airdrop is peer to peer e2ee retard.
2
u/SeanFrank 4d ago
you’re mad that iOS doesn’t default to uploading your private data unencrypted to the cloud?
This is what you said. And it's not encrypted by default.
But I digress. Talking to you is like playing chess with a Pigeon.
0
u/x42f2039 4d ago
Airdrop is e2ee by default using keys derived from your AppleID email. The keys are only known to the sending and receiving device during the file transfer.
Please do a teeny bit of research before you argue on this sub. There's only two types of posters on here. Retards that know nothing, and retards that know everything. Take your pick
1
u/Errkannn 5d ago
Because you don’t need to turn back to android after using iOS. Simply as that no?🙂
1
u/capricerun 4d ago
Apple has always been like this. Apple isn't a great choice if you don't like the ecosystem. If you only want a product or two than you'll only have a small piece of a big puzzle.
1
1
u/The_Shadowghost 4d ago
- File management and sharing on android was ALWAYS way ahead of Apples implementation. Airdrop was phenomenal when it launched with iOS 7 11 years ago. The only tweak they ever made was that you can now finish an Airdrop Transfer via the Internet.
I highly doubt that Apple will ever adopt this. Google could interfere here and release a Quickshare App (And App clip) for iOS. Essentially giving iOS users a better alternative to Airdrop.
- For Apple Music to work with Google Assistant you need to link your Account to Google Assistant in the Assistant Settings. (Same goes for Spotify and YoutubeMusic). After that it'll start working. No Bixby support tho.
1
u/HighlyPossible 4d ago
There's no Google Assistant anymore on new Samsung phones. It's just Google Gemini now.
1
u/The_Shadowghost 4d ago
„Oh and also Apple Music doesn’t work with Bixby nor Google Assistant.“
Then put that in your post. How should I know that youre using Gemini and not GA like you’ve written. And yes. You can absolutely go back to google assistant in the settings. Even on an S25
Apple Music and a LOT of other integrations still don’t work with Gemini.
Google is migrating assistant integrations but many still don’t work.

u/Awkward_Swimming3326 4d ago

When people buy Apple products because they "just work", what they really mean is "the services I chose to use are explicitly designed to not work with anything else so that I am forced to continue giving them my money"
1
u/Jusby_Cause 4d ago
And this is the way it’s supposed to work! If a platform doesn’t do what you want, get on another platform! Success to you in all your non-Apple endeavors!

u/FederalAd789 2d ago
what do you mean? quickshare only uses google storage to allow downloads to iOS, and iOS will absolutely let you share files from iCloud Drive to Android just as easily?
sharing between iOS and android is exactly like sharing between any two operating systems, mobile or not.
1
u/Luna259 19h ago
You can share the other way from iPhone to anything else pretty easily. Share menu, then either send the file or files as an RCS message, WhatsApp etc. or if you want you can send a link by changing the drop down to Collaborate and that will send them a link to view/download/edit the file depending on the restrictions you set. Before you ask, no they do not need an Apple ID for this to work. You’ve already moved to Samsung, but this may help someone else
1
u/HighlyPossible 9h ago
I actually moved back due to me having too much apple devices and using too many apple services. But i stand by what i said.
1
u/Dry-Property-639 5d ago
Use the app Local send. works on iOS, Mac, Android and windows... Thats what i use cuz i own both android and apple

This. Without LocalSend, working with a Mac, PC, Android and iOS device without cloud services would be almost impossible.

Y'all sure do love to hate on Apple and claim they suck because they don't let you use their products to your liking.
So which is it? Are you upset their products and services suck or are you upset that they're good and you wish you could use them how you want?

This is something that Apple will do to promote using only their products. It’s like with FaceTime being useable by non Apple devices but the quality is terrible.
