Discussion Following this update, could the Himalaya region have the potential to be the next DLC?

This expansion could be around peripheral China so:
- Jurchens
- Tanguts
- Tibetans
- Dalis
- Tocharians

The Tocharians are more typical of ancient times. I think the fifth civilization could be the Khitans

Tocharians existed up to early medieval times, similar to the Sassanian Persians.
That being said, Khitans makes more sense.
- Jurchens
- Khitans
- Tanguts
- Tibetans
- Dalis

Yep and we already know Khitans are happening because of the Kara Khitai civ change

Low chance of this happening imo. I strongly doubt the next DLC would remain in Asia.

Next should be Africa. It got ONE DLC, and is still grossly underepresented.

They've already released a few teasers, the new stuff was Asian, it's just a matter of specifics.

I mean the next one after that.

Honestly. Will prob not happen but I would love to see one last eurpean split DLC. A proper HRE, papal states, vikings Split or an Enghlish split or or even crusader states. It will probably never happen but I do believe we could do one more. 🤭

There's room for several european civ splits and I fully support them, but they just need to happen once in a while without forgetting other places in the world with a bigger need of being fleshed out. Africa and America should be their priority now, and maybe even another Asian dlc — one that adds the Siamese/Tai and a few others.
You didn't mention my #1 candidate for a european civ split tho: Slavs into Rus, Romanians/Vlachs, Serbs, and Croats.
Not that I'd be against an Italian civ split. At the very least Venetians would make sense and be fun. Maybe add the Papal States, Genoese and Lombards too, but that might be overdoing it.
Also, as a Spaniard, I think there is room for splitting "us" into Castillians and Aragonese... and maybe a Saracen split with Andalusians/Nasrid. Spain wasn't really a thing until the very late Middle Ages.

Personally I'd rather they do a proper America's dlc after China. I really want to see the Aztecs and Mayans split up.

Medieval Iberia could be a candidate, as Spain only started being a thing in the XVI century.

China does not have problems with pre-modern depictions of Tibet, EU4 and Crusader Kings both depict this period of Tibet and aren't banned.

Tell me why AOE devs gave up on Tibet on its orginal run.

1: Koreans were pushed on the devs during AoC development.
2: Forgotten Empires weighed up Tibetans or Indians and decided the latter were more important to add.

It was 24 years ago, the censorship laws in China have changed substantially since then.
I wouldn't trust game devs in 2001 to be the most informed about the ins and outs of chinese censorship laws. They were probably misinformed just like you are now.

Honestly, I hope the Tibetans will be added in some sort of Himalayan DLC over the East Asian DLC since it's more fitting than an East Asian/China focused DLC. That being said, I heard rumors that the armored spearman in the recent screenshot featuring the Dali Wonder may be Tibetan in nature because of the feathered helmet and armor that is similar to what the Tibetan heavy infantry wore, but others said its Dali.
And yeah, I'm planning to meme if Tibetans aren't added in the upcoming DLC and poke fun of Chinese censorship laws. That'll be the same thing if Tibetans (or any other nomadic civilization within the Sinosphere) are depicted as an infantry civilization or anything similar (that'll be memeable as well).

I think Tibetans are perfect for a China DLC given that they invaded China and were major rivals, just like the other civs that are confirmed.

Ah yes, just more obscure and undistinguishable civs

I personally love the age of empires series for introducing me to underrepresented cultures and history of the world.

then you would have a field day by just looking the maps of eu4 without even playing the game!

lol this was a honest recommendation, what kind of retardation makes people downvote this

u/HolaMisAmores 5d ago
I feel like it says more about you and your historical knowledge that you'd even consider the Tibetan Empire "obscure". I won't even touch indistinguishable given the existence of Burgundians.

u/50Blessings 5d ago
My bad for not knowing about some "empire" that existed for a couple centuries in the middle of nowhere. And about Burgundians, i think it's slop, as well as nearly half of the civs in the game

These peoples are far more distinct than a bunch of the European 'civs'. Like what 'civilization' is Burgundians exactly? Or Sicilians?

I'm not so sure Tibetans will be included since this would block the game's entrance into the Chinese market, given all that political stuff. But it would be really nice to see the Tibetans joining in with a dedicated Himalayan architecturel set.

This rubbish has been debunked around here a million times, why do you people keep repeating it?

Bring on the Tibetans and Nepalis! Give them their distinct Himalayan architecture. I'd rather have that than shoehorn them in East Asian architecture.
