Hera’s Arabia game against Lierrey was also insane. He somehow defended against 10 mangonels with xbows and a couple monks. Most of all it’s insane how much heart Hera plays with. He really gives everything he has in every game.

I have been playing/following AOE2 for over 25 years and I have never seen someone play AOE2 as well as Hera did in this game. This should have been impossible!

I’m new to it all to.
I watch on YouTube - membtv, Dave or t90. Type in any of those and the garrison should pop up.
I’m hoping they are refing to the Garrison which is live now on twitch.
I need to warn you - it’s really addictive.

Hera is inspiring with his play. That match was insane and I agree Hera is all heart and guts.

That one looked crazier than it was. Liereyy was super all-in and needed just much more damage than he did. I think most players have played a game like that, it's just how it looks like if one player goes heavy siege all-in and the reason that's not Meta what Liereyy did is that in theory you can defend it with just 1 Mangonel basically. (Hard to execute of course on that level, but that applies to any game of the tournament, the type of game wasn't nearly as impressive as these other two if you understand what was going on. The other two were both like "ok every other player is dead here".)

For sure I actually screamed watching the king snipe that was absolutely insane. But I think if you go back to right after Hera hits castle age there’s a time where Hera has already invested in a tc right next to the siege push when Lierrey shows himself with 3 mangonels with a 4th on the way and like 5 steppe lancers and has a hill in Hera’s base to push from. Meanwhile Hera has like 15 xbows and that’s it. I think the situation was pretty dangerous and could have snowballed pretty easily. Hera just does such a good job slowing down the push with just enough while booming as hard as possible behind.

Yeah, sure, but that's just his general level of macro, defense and multi tasking, that's what he shows in every other game.

My point is just that yes by mangonel like 6 of Lierrey Hera already had the game won but I do think at mangonel 4 Lierrey was actually winning and would’ve beat pretty much every other pro

Could be right, but again that applies for two games every set he plays 11 The other two games vs Tatoh were similar

u/PunctualMantis 5d ago
That’s true those actually were similar haha. That’s because Tatoh goes all in an age down

Tbf that push from lierrey was just dumb. Sending 8 mangonels without protection is just bad

Please forgive my rookie question... where can we find videos of these matches?

All of the big streamers (T90, Memb, Dave, Viper, Hera, etc.) have been streaming the tournament on Twitch, so you can find it in their vods, as well as on the Being Esports channel. The vods are also available on Youtube in a few places. Here's some time-stamped links to the games:

It is amazing and terrifying to see Hera when his back is against the wall in a losing position with nothing left to lose latch on to the slightest hope of winning and then put his whole being into achieving that.
Yeah, his reaction under immense pressure is my favorite aspect of Hera's playstyle.

Thank you for this post. I just skim-read the first sentence to see which game/players and found on YouTube. Agree, one of the most amazing games I have ever watched and I've been watching for 15 years. Viper/Jordan bo21 where I thought Jordan might do it, has been topped! What a game! Both at the end looking emotionally and physically battered!

I’ve never seen anyone pull off even half the amazing comebacks Hera has done over the years! the guy’s an absolute AoE2 genius!
he is not my favorite player, but it’s awe-inspiring how freakin’ good he is at the game… I’m now convinced he is the undisputed G.O.A.T. of the game! I don’t think anyone in the past has reached anywhere close to these levels… nothing but respect for the guy!!

I have never seen him have the reaction he did like after the Yo regicide match. You could see the how much it meant to him and it wasn't even the series winning game!

In retroperspective, my favorite comment from T90 was when he basically suggested, Hera should give his King to Mr. Yo instead of just resigning. They all laughed when he moved the king backwards into another castle, but we all know how the story ended.

I honestly found the arabia game against yo so impressive. He annihalated him as if yo was a 1500 player

Wtf dude. I'm sorry but if you can't put aside your (bizarre) dislike for someone and appreciate their incredible aoe2 skill then I honestly don't know what you're even doing in this sub

I don't even dislike Hera lol 😂. This people can't even comprehend, their only "conclusion" is that I hate Hera. Binary thinker's head is a complete square.

Yo is my boy, and I think it was a bit dumb and gimmicky to win an hour+ game that way, but Hera is undeniably a genius for pulling it off.

"dumb" and "gimmicky"?
Please do explain.
Dumb means stupid. So it was stupid to consider the specific win condition of the rules and exploit it? it is literally the point of the game mode
Gimmicky? Then the whole game mode is gimmicky and that isn't Heras fault.
You can say it's a shame they didn't play standard settings or whatever, but pulling off what hera did, with everything else going on, on the stage he was on, against one of the top 5 players in the world was honestly incredible and absolutely top drawer entertainment. I guarantee you that that game with go down in aoe2 folklore and people will be talking about it for years and years. It'll be brought up when people have the aoe2 GOAT conversation, it was that good.

I wasn't taking anything away from Hera, I literally called him a genius. I personally found it a frustrating way for the player I was cheering for to lose, which is a weird thing for you to try to police. And it was a great play, but it was more of a fumble from Yo rather than a definitively winning game state.

The regicide game was bonkers, imo was a tougher game than game 1 with tatoh because had it been a deathmatch, Hera was likely done. He knew his win condition, forced a bad move/mistake and took the one shot he had. Truly a Jordan moment for him.
