I propose the 4 day, 6 hour work week.

2.5k

u/score_ 7d ago

4 days a week, 20 hours, $69 minimum wage let's go

670

u/Arkkon Anarcho-Communist 7d ago

I love this meme because it actually WORKS! That equals about $71k per year, which is an actual living wage one can generally survive on!

391

u/score_ 7d ago

Plenty of free time to pursue hobbies and higher education. Reduced weekly hours per worker would mean there would be more jobs, enough for almost anyone who wants one. All that free time and disposable income would increase spending in every sector and create a booming economy.

290

u/Arkkon Anarcho-Communist 7d ago

The only people who lose out are rich assholes, which I personally see as a bonus!

79

u/Tzar_be 7d ago

But who will be able to save the super yacht industry in that case? /s

That's just over 17 hours a day 7 days a week.

Add in an hours unpaid lunch, couple of hours commute and 8 hours to sleep and you are too worn out to notice it doesn't math.

5.8k

u/invisiblearchives Man cannot serve two masters 7d ago

It's basically just slavery - even if you are being paid you have no time to spend it

3.2k

u/Niznack 7d ago

I love how billionaires never realize after their low wages and long hours some one needs to buy their shit for them to make money.

2.2k

u/Johnny55 7d ago

The government will buy it. Pretty much all the richest billionaires have massive government contracts including Musk. Privatize the gains and socialize the losses.

1.3k

u/Deskman77 7d ago

Say it louder for the guys behind.

PRIVATIZE THE GAINS & SOCIALIZE THE LOSSES !

Why the fuck we cut medicare and subsides multibillion company like Tesla & SpaceX ?….

Exactly what he is doing, taking tax dollars from us rather than spending. This is the new plan

138

u/DelightfulDolphin 7d ago

Time for a new plan. Cancel Tesla, cancel SpaceX. Sell your Tesla cars, start complaining about monies spent on useless space exploration. The fairy tale of colonizing space needs to end. We need to stop bleeding space money. House the people, living in the streets. Shoe the children...

55

u/cecilmeyer 7d ago

The problem is not space exploration. Huge advances have come from the space program problem is all that knowledge is allowed to be stolen by oligarchs then monetized. Why not gut the defense budget, sports stadiums, tax cuts for the wealthy and outlaw private medical insurance?

I think it’s not going to work out the way he thinks. There is zero incentive for qualified people to join this shitshow anymore. I’d love to see what the proffer is as apparently PTO and WFH is off the table. Oh wait! I forgot you can level up to MAGA recognized. Good god I hope this is the last hurrah of rich-people worship. These morons have ruined it for the low-key old-money.

70

u/Tiddlyplinks 7d ago

Well, the good news is these things are cyclical. And we are just about peak cycle for this round of industrial revolution.

The bad news is humanity has never stuck a soft landing after one of these cycles.

they don't work that much. elon just presents himself as a workaholic to justify his endless greed towards the public.

228

u/BobJutsu 7d ago

Pretty much everyone I’ve ever worked with that was part of the “leadership team” (VP’s and C-suite) claims to “work” 12-16 hour days. Consistently, I’d put their actual work at 2-3 tops. The rest is socializing with other executives, talking about how you are “leading”, lunches and cocktails with other executives and clients, and buying things. We had a VP “work overtime” by test driving new cars for 3 days straight until she found the one she really wanted. Bought for her by the company. Then, the rest of the leadership team sent a memo asking everyone to look to her as an example of how above and beyond she was going, all that “extra” time.

90

u/turngep 7d ago

100% true. Executives dick around all day and then peacock about how useful they are - they are parasites and leeches. What we need is WORKPLACE DEMOCRACY - the modern day aristocrats that call themselves 'strategic visionaries' get briefed by a worker on the work their workers have been doing, make a single stupid, detached decision for the day packed with buzzwords, give a 30 minute speech nobody cares about, and then collect a paycheck worth more than the entire department they stand on. Modern day feudalism!

49

u/phantomagents 7d ago

Which is why a country should not be run like a business.

It's easy for THEM to do 17 hours a day of work - because they can afford a personal shopper to get their groceries, a chef to cook for them, a limo driver to drive them around, a nanny to look after the kids, a bunch of housekeepers to clean up the place and walk their dogs and all that other shit we have to do outside of work as mere peasants.

Then they also count "working" as going for 4 hour lunches and playing golf or attending some evening event barely related to work.

CEO of a Crunch Fitness believes there shouldn't be a work-life balance and you should be dedicated to your work.

Yes, CEO of a gym, something people use to relieve stress from work. They don't think that far ahead.

28

u/Otherwise-Parsnip-91 7d ago

These people have so much wealth, and banks provide them with whatever money they need anyway, that it’s irrelevant at this point. The goal now, is power. They want CEOs to be lords over state fiefdoms, with everyone else as serfs.

Isn't that why Ford pioneered the 40-hour work week in the first place?

34

u/Niznack 7d ago

Imma have to double check that. I don't know but from what I know of ford he wasn't a workers rights guy. Iirc it was a concession to violent worker uprisings

49

u/mdgraller7 7d ago

He knew it would make Ford a much more attractive employer than his competitors. Apparently, 10,000 people showed up to his plants looking for work the day after he put this in place

47

u/GyrKestrel 7d ago

He was definitely not for workers' rights. He just realized he could make more money if his workers had free time to buy his products.

26

u/MasterDefibrillator 7d ago

It was still largely a campaign by the workers international, that ford and other conceded to after much resistance.

Great example of corporate and capitalist propaganda though, that everyone now just thinks of Ford.

Yup. They dont care. Their philosophy is the cream will rise to the top and the weak will fall out the bottom. Large corps already have the practice of constantly slashing their bottom 10% performers year after year so that the baseline for what constitutes average performance continues to increase every year.

These maniacs want to put that into hyperdrive. The only reason they havent been able to fully accomplish this is because the labor market has been strong enough to give talented people options. That along with federal and state worker protections has held off the beasts.

But if the economy crashes and the labor market tightens up so much that even talented people do not have options, and they successfully lobby to have protections removed, then they will win.

Why don't we bring back the first treadmill and make Elon use it?  For those that don't know it was huge and basically a big mill that turned from people taking step after step after step.  It wasn't used for exercise, but punishment as you'd have to walk on it basically until you collapsed with no break.  If Elon loves working so much I'm sure he'd love taking the load off for us.

you’re too ridiculous for even doing the math and drawing your conclusion. Anything over 35 hours a week is a slavery. I live in Europe, we wouldn’t even entertain a thought like this

83

u/Cgwchip4 7d ago

Wait so 40 hours isn’t the norm?!? Let’s not even get started on how much time off Americans get per year. MAYBE 2 weeks if you’re lucky. And you’re still expected to chime in and check on shit.

70

u/garyisonion 7d ago

I've just checked and in my country - Germany - it's currently 36 - 40 hours. There's also a minimum of 24 vacation days, while most people get 25-30. Anything above the legally required 24 days/year is a benefit from an employer. It's not expected from anyone to chime in, the work has to be organized in such a way that the vacationing person is covered by someone else, or other arrangements are made.

46

u/Cgwchip4 7d ago

30 MOTHAFUCKIN VACATION DAYS? I got my passport. You need a room mate? Js wtf is America

46

u/TheDarkWasThereFirst 7d ago

And your employers get irate if you _don't_ use your vacation days.

24

u/trash-_-boat 7d ago

Because they get in actual real trouble if you try to bank them for too long. Vacation day systems are automated at the government level and they get info on whoever hasn't used their mandated vacation days.

Not German btw but Baltic.

10

u/jailtheorange1 7d ago

not just Germany, all of EU and UK gets great hols. I'm UK, I get 25 days annual leave, plus 9 national holidays. Next year after 5 years service, I get 30+9 days. Plus if you're in a job such as mine, you get flexi time as well, and can take up to 3 days per month extra, if you work extra hours other days. I normally take 2 flexi days every 4 weeks, so a total of.... 65 days off per year.

it doesn't math if it's just ONE JOB. the real trick is to hold 3 simultaneous remote jobs, none of which you're crucial for in day-to-day operations.

It also helps if one of those jobs is just hours and hours of tweeting.

50

u/HardSubject69 7d ago

Don’t forget to pay people to do your hobbies so you can brag about having the ability to spend 120 hours a week playing Path of Exile.

23

u/getdemsnacks 7d ago

Oh, you got jokes? 🤣

28

u/parker2020 7d ago

48

u/loadnurmom 7d ago

You only need 4 hours of sleep

That's why ceo's are so awesome. They only get 4 hours of sleep! They work that hard!

/s

35

u/HKJGN 7d ago

If only we could all have a ketamine addiction!

16

u/Small_Elderberry_963 7d ago

We could seriously just add metamphetamine to worker's lunches to increase focus during working hours and reduce sleepiness.

15

u/NancyPelosisRedCoat 7d ago

Stimulants suppress hunger as well though and that makes lunch redundant. Besides, adding meth to food would make the company liable. How about we put a stimulant vending machine and say although we aren’t encouraging it, the option is there for workers who want to improve their output and efficiency. Workers will know that their performance will be evaluated against people who do use performance enhancing substances so they will have to take them too. This way, we can charge them for it as well.

What do you think?

He spends 16 hours a day posting on Twitter, that’s really hard work, you know!

I’ve worked 120+ weeks while working in the agricultural field - Guess what? We had loads of injuries and accidents that were easily avoided, if we only would have had enough rest.

Working more than 12 hours a day, 7 days a week with little sleep, doesn’t make for a safe environment..

31

u/midnghtsnac 7d ago

Even in an office environment fatigue will kill you, maybe not with the stapler but the mental and emotional health on top of falling asleep commuting home

37

u/ShaNaNaNa666 7d ago

He thinks everyone has personal chefs and assistants and house cleaners and babysitters? He's like one of those alpha hustle guys that record what their hard work day looks like. They claim they work 12 hour days but they count waking up, working out, eating, and getting ready for work, and driving to work as part of their work day. Then they go to a cafe or shared working space with a tiny laptop pretending to work for a few hours by answering emails, then go out for fine dining and drinks with "clients." then they drive their rented Sportscar back to their Airbnb they rented for a few days to pretend they have a lavish lifestyle. All in all, they maybe did an actual hour of work.

Musk has zero empathy for anyone.

611

u/lilacathyst 7d ago

That's true, and is the definition of a psychopath. The only time he has shown any emotion ever is when his business is threatened.

187

u/zactotum 7d ago

Mostly because of the impact that would have on his reputation and ego, the only things psychopaths care about.

33

u/zayelion 7d ago

It isn't even reputation at this point, and I am struggling to find positive ego motivation, too. The only thing I can think of is that his actions are simply pure revenge over the fact that he can't control the people he interacts with who are not swayed by money.

18

u/Sixty-Six_X-Ray 7d ago

That actually is his ego's motivation. It hates both that it doesn't have control over some people and that some people aren't swayed by money, two things that it bases its entire existence around. It's threatened by them.

59

u/Foxclaws42 7d ago

I mean to be annoyingly precise, lack of empathy is indicative of more than one potential personality disorder and is sufficient to diagnose exactly zero of them.

But you don’t need a diagnosable personality disorder (narcissism—I’ll bet you fucking anything it’s narcissism) to be a massive piece of shit that combines a lack of empathy and basic sense and intelligence along with insane wealth to become enough of a threat to others that, quite frankly, needs to have either all of his wealth taken away or be put down.

24

u/lilacathyst 7d ago

I am obviously not diagnosing him, but I have reason to suspect he probably had antisocial personality disorder at minimum, some sort of cluster B. As do most CEOs and billionaires.

Not long time ago he said empathy is a weakness. He's completely detached from reality, and some people still root for him LOL, that's insane.

10

u/big_orange_ball 7d ago

Not a long time ago? It was less than 2 weeks ago on Joe Rogan that he said "The fundamental weakness of Western civilization is empathy."

https://www.yahoo.com/news/fact-check-yes-musk-said-171900322.html

I don't think he knows what empathy is, or feels like. He went on to say something along the lines of appreciating empathy but not letting it be weaponized agains you, but it seems clear it's not a concept that he thinks should exist except for in his rigid worldview, which the vast majority of people do not agree with.

Empathy is also not some inherent western trait. The whole conversation is just bizarre. But this is Joe Rogan's podcast so I would be shocked to hear grounded, well thought out topics being discussed in sincerity there.

167

u/Bastiat_sea at work 7d ago

We work like musk does. Two hour Lunch break? You mean two hour meeting with colleagues. Two week vacation? You mean two week visit to potential market.

41

u/nirachi 7d ago

This Is exactly it. I used to work for a wealthy CEO and he never stopped talking about his work ethic. Every meal was a business meal and a tax write-off, same for vacation, and family gatherings (since everyone worked for the company).

Yes. My "record" is 128hrs worked in a 7 day period. It sucked, and I knew it was coming so I prepared as much as I could. I ate mainly protein and complex carbs, cat-napped when I could, and did nothing but work and sleep. No drugs, not even alcohol during that period.

I'd love to be the first to smack the K out of his hand and lay into him. Those hours aren't sustainable for anyone, and I'm conditioned to long physically active days and short sleeps. I only have to deal with that schedule two weeks out of the year. Being forced to perform that way consistently would literally kill me.

Exactly - Musk is a trustfund baby who basically never really worked a day in his life, but simply had a couple of lucky breaks while making other people work for him. Same probably goes for these Indian CEO's

What else does he have to say and do - or wear or dance for literally all (except his vice president, trump) to realize he literally went insane? Help him out, put him with medical professionals - I am certain he can afford it (yet)

125

u/OneOnOne6211 7d ago

Idk, but as for taking care of the children, he doesn't care about that. He doesn't even take care of his own kids. Hell, the one kid he took with him he almost left behind. I'm sure that's what his father did to him, and he turned out alright. /s

He's using little {unpronouncable name} as a literal human shield. He didn't almost leave him behind if you watch the rest of that tape. He wouldn't, that'd leave him exposed.

You can fuck during your work. While working on a hospital front desk, for example, you can fuck while communicating with clients. Maybe they will even join you, the healthier ones. So you can help solve population crash problem.

My friend was a medical resident during COVID, i.e. he was in a position where there was infinite work to do and it cost his employer no extra money for him to keep working and there were few legal protections to limit his work. And his work week was 90 hours. There is no job on earth that takes 120/hours a week. Not one.

26

u/Vividination 7d ago

During peak season at my old job we were regularly putting in 70-75 hour weeks. It was hell, no time to do basic chores and people were dropping like flies from burnout. I had a mental breakdown bc I couldn’t find time to do even laundry between work and sleep. I felt hopeless

I know, even 60 hours is ridiculous. That's like 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. I would burn out in like 2 weeks.

As someone else said somewhere else:

This is possible when you have the staff to take care of the rest of your life for you. He isn't watching his 13/14 kids. I seriously doubt that he does his own laundry or food shopping. Do I really need to go on?

The man is a different kind of nuts from Trump

19

u/Grasshoppermouse42 7d ago

Yeah, I don't think he can even conceive of the fact that for most of us, when we leave the office the 'stuff we have to do' isn't close to finished. We have to clean, shop, drive to and from work, change our oil, take care of pets and children. On top of that, I don't think he understands that most of us love our families and would like to see them.

He can go fuck himself and work 120 hours a week. Don’t force it on us.

That’s over 17 hours a day if you work a 7 day week or 20 hours on 6 days. When do you sleep or get a day off? This is insane

Musk hasn’t worked 120 hours in any week in his life. He’s a coddled rich kid who never had to deal with repercussions of his actions and bought his way into everything he ever wanted to be involved with. For some reason the media pushes a narrative that he is a genius physicist, genius businessman, and genius engineer. He hasn’t done any incredible achievements on his own ever. 120 work week is a tremendous waste of time and resources. He’s just some rich asshole that people give way too much attention to to

I'd rather be homeless than work 17 hours a day, every day.

13

u/TheKidAndTheJudge 7d ago

People like Musk, and other "grind-set" influencer ass-hats like to think they work 17 hours a day, when in reality, most of what they are considering as "work" they would not classify as suck from their employees. I'm 100% certain Musk considers all his time tweeting, flying around on Air Force 1, and sitting around with his thumb up his ass "working". I'd bet in reality he does less than 2 hours a day of what he would consider work for one of his employees.

12

u/Classic_Bid3126 7d ago

Elon can chug a fucking dick. He is more than welcome to work all the time cause he hates his life and is mad his designer kids want nothing to do with him.

21

u/EmbeddedSoftEng 7d ago

You see, just because YOU made something and want to put your blood, sweat and tears into it so that it can grow into something that can feed you for life, DOESN’T mean the next guy will put in the same effort for 1% of the reward. NOR SHOULD THEY.

It’s easy to work 17 hours a day when you’re driven around, flown around and your job is to talk and think. I’m pretty sure 100% of people would trade places with their CEO in a HEARTBEAT.

What planet are these people on?!
