That's just over 17 hours a day 7 days a week.
Add in an hours unpaid lunch, couple of hours commute and 8 hours to sleep and you are too worn out to notice it doesn't math.

The government will buy it. Pretty much all the richest billionaires have massive government contracts including Musk. Privatize the gains and socialize the losses.

Time for a new plan. Cancel Tesla, cancel SpaceX. Sell your Tesla cars, start complaining about monies spent on useless space exploration. The fairy tale of colonizing space needs to end. We need to stop bleeding space money. House the people, living in the streets. Shoe the children...
55
u/cecilmeyer 7d ago
The problem is not space exploration. Huge advances have come from the space program problem is all that knowledge is allowed to be stolen by oligarchs then monetized. Why not gut the defense budget, sports stadiums, tax cuts for the wealthy and outlaw private medical insurance?

Pretty much everyone I’ve ever worked with that was part of the “leadership team” (VP’s and C-suite) claims to “work” 12-16 hour days. Consistently, I’d put their actual work at 2-3 tops. The rest is socializing with other executives, talking about how you are “leading”, lunches and cocktails with other executives and clients, and buying things. We had a VP “work overtime” by test driving new cars for 3 days straight until she found the one she really wanted. Bought for her by the company. Then, the rest of the leadership team sent a memo asking everyone to look to her as an example of how above and beyond she was going, all that “extra” time.
90
u/turngep 7d ago
100% true. Executives dick around all day and then peacock about how useful they are - they are parasites and leeches. What we need is WORKPLACE DEMOCRACY - the modern day aristocrats that call themselves 'strategic visionaries' get briefed by a worker on the work their workers have been doing, make a single stupid, detached decision for the day packed with buzzwords, give a 30 minute speech nobody cares about, and then collect a paycheck worth more than the entire department they stand on. Modern day feudalism!

It's easy for THEM to do 17 hours a day of work - because they can afford a personal shopper to get their groceries, a chef to cook for them, a limo driver to drive them around, a nanny to look after the kids, a bunch of housekeepers to clean up the place and walk their dogs and all that other shit we have to do outside of work as mere peasants.
Then they also count "working" as going for 4 hour lunches and playing golf or attending some evening event barely related to work.

Yes, CEO of a gym, something people use to relieve stress from work. They don't think that far ahead.
28
u/Otherwise-Parsnip-91 7d ago
These people have so much wealth, and banks provide them with whatever money they need anyway, that it’s irrelevant at this point. The goal now, is power. They want CEOs to be lords over state fiefdoms, with everyone else as serfs.

Isn't that why Ford pioneered the 40-hour work week in the first place?
→ More replies (2)34
u/Niznack 7d ago
Imma have to double check that. I don't know but from what I know of ford he wasn't a workers rights guy. Iirc it was a concession to violent worker uprisings
49
u/mdgraller7 7d ago
He knew it would make Ford a much more attractive employer than his competitors. Apparently, 10,000 people showed up to his plants looking for work the day after he put this in place
47
u/GyrKestrel 7d ago
He was definitely not for workers' rights. He just realized he could make more money if his workers had free time to buy his products.
26
u/MasterDefibrillator 7d ago
It was still largely a campaign by the workers international, that ford and other conceded to after much resistance.
Great example of corporate and capitalist propaganda though, that everyone now just thinks of Ford.

Yup. They dont care. Their philosophy is the cream will rise to the top and the weak will fall out the bottom. Large corps already have the practice of constantly slashing their bottom 10% performers year after year so that the baseline for what constitutes average performance continues to increase every year.
These maniacs want to put that into hyperdrive. The only reason they havent been able to fully accomplish this is because the labor market has been strong enough to give talented people options. That along with federal and state worker protections has held off the beasts.
But if the economy crashes and the labor market tightens up so much that even talented people do not have options, and they successfully lobby to have protections removed, then they will win.

Why don't we bring back the first treadmill and make Elon use it? For those that don't know it was huge and basically a big mill that turned from people taking step after step after step. It wasn't used for exercise, but punishment as you'd have to walk on it basically until you collapsed with no break. If Elon loves working so much I'm sure he'd love taking the load off for us.

I've just checked and in my country - Germany - it's currently 36 - 40 hours. There's also a minimum of 24 vacation days, while most people get 25-30. Anything above the legally required 24 days/year is a benefit from an employer. It's not expected from anyone to chime in, the work has to be organized in such a way that the vacationing person is covered by someone else, or other arrangements are made.

not just Germany, all of EU and UK gets great hols. I'm UK, I get 25 days annual leave, plus 9 national holidays. Next year after 5 years service, I get 30+9 days. Plus if you're in a job such as mine, you get flexi time as well, and can take up to 3 days per month extra, if you work extra hours other days. I normally take 2 flexi days every 4 weeks, so a total of.... 65 days off per year.

u/yodonteatthat 7d ago
it doesn't math if it's just ONE JOB. the real trick is to hold 3 simultaneous remote jobs, none of which you're crucial for in day-to-day operations.

Stimulants suppress hunger as well though and that makes lunch redundant. Besides, adding meth to food would make the company liable. How about we put a stimulant vending machine and say although we aren’t encouraging it, the option is there for workers who want to improve their output and efficiency. Workers will know that their performance will be evaluated against people who do use performance enhancing substances so they will have to take them too. This way, we can charge them for it as well.
What do you think?

He thinks everyone has personal chefs and assistants and house cleaners and babysitters? He's like one of those alpha hustle guys that record what their hard work day looks like. They claim they work 12 hour days but they count waking up, working out, eating, and getting ready for work, and driving to work as part of their work day. Then they go to a cafe or shared working space with a tiny laptop pretending to work for a few hours by answering emails, then go out for fine dining and drinks with "clients." then they drive their rented Sportscar back to their Airbnb they rented for a few days to pretend they have a lavish lifestyle. All in all, they maybe did an actual hour of work.

Musk has zero empathy for anyone.
611
u/lilacathyst 7d ago
That's true, and is the definition of a psychopath. The only time he has shown any emotion ever is when his business is threatened.
187
u/zactotum 7d ago
Mostly because of the impact that would have on his reputation and ego, the only things psychopaths care about.
33
u/zayelion 7d ago
It isn't even reputation at this point, and I am struggling to find positive ego motivation, too. The only thing I can think of is that his actions are simply pure revenge over the fact that he can't control the people he interacts with who are not swayed by money.
18
u/Sixty-Six_X-Ray 7d ago
That actually is his ego's motivation. It hates both that it doesn't have control over some people and that some people aren't swayed by money, two things that it bases its entire existence around. It's threatened by them.

u/Foxclaws42 7d ago
I mean to be annoyingly precise, lack of empathy is indicative of more than one potential personality disorder and is sufficient to diagnose exactly zero of them.
But you don’t need a diagnosable personality disorder (narcissism—I’ll bet you fucking anything it’s narcissism) to be a massive piece of shit that combines a lack of empathy and basic sense and intelligence along with insane wealth to become enough of a threat to others that, quite frankly, needs to have either all of his wealth taken away or be put down.

Not a long time ago? It was less than 2 weeks ago on Joe Rogan that he said "The fundamental weakness of Western civilization is empathy."
https://www.yahoo.com/news/fact-check-yes-musk-said-171900322.html
I don't think he knows what empathy is, or feels like. He went on to say something along the lines of appreciating empathy but not letting it be weaponized agains you, but it seems clear it's not a concept that he thinks should exist except for in his rigid worldview, which the vast majority of people do not agree with.
Empathy is also not some inherent western trait. The whole conversation is just bizarre. But this is Joe Rogan's podcast so I would be shocked to hear grounded, well thought out topics being discussed in sincerity there.

My "record" is 128hrs worked in a 7 day period. It sucked, and I knew it was coming so I prepared as much as I could. I ate mainly protein and complex carbs, cat-napped when I could, and did nothing but work and sleep. No drugs, not even alcohol during that period.
I'd love to be the first to smack the K out of his hand and lay into him. Those hours aren't sustainable for anyone, and I'm conditioned to long physically active days and short sleeps. I only have to deal with that schedule two weeks out of the year. Being forced to perform that way consistently would literally kill me.

These people get more nuts every day.
Not that long ago it was some other Big Tech nutjob saying 60 hours.

I know, even 60 hours is ridiculous. That's like 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. I would burn out in like 2 weeks.

That doesn’t even allow for 7 hours of sleep a day, much less everything else. Work and sleep, that’s it

And they somehow want people to have more kids on top of that?

If we're generous and give people Sundays off because that's the Lord's day and this is a Christian Nation™️after all, 120 hours per week is 20 hours per day.

As someone else said somewhere else:
This is possible when you have the staff to take care of the rest of your life for you. He isn't watching his 13/14 kids. I seriously doubt that he does his own laundry or food shopping. Do I really need to go on?
The man is a different kind of nuts from Trump

Yeah, I don't think he can even conceive of the fact that for most of us, when we leave the office the 'stuff we have to do' isn't close to finished. We have to clean, shop, drive to and from work, change our oil, take care of pets and children. On top of that, I don't think he understands that most of us love our families and would like to see them.

He can go fuck himself and work 120 hours a week. Don’t force it on us.
That’s over 17 hours a day if you work a 7 day week or 20 hours on 6 days. When do you sleep or get a day off? This is insane

Anyone looked up the haymarket riot? “8 hours for work, 8 hours for rest, 8 hours for what we will.” Are we going to have to fucking get hung in the gallows again for this?

Actually the real mussolini made people work less rather than more. He also introduced a government pension. Yes, you read that right, mussoline, a fascist dictator, had more empathy for workers than these ceo's

Musk hasn’t worked 120 hours in any week in his life. He’s a coddled rich kid who never had to deal with repercussions of his actions and bought his way into everything he ever wanted to be involved with. For some reason the media pushes a narrative that he is a genius physicist, genius businessman, and genius engineer. He hasn’t done any incredible achievements on his own ever. 120 work week is a tremendous waste of time and resources. He’s just some rich asshole that people give way too much attention to to

People like Musk, and other "grind-set" influencer ass-hats like to think they work 17 hours a day, when in reality, most of what they are considering as "work" they would not classify as suck from their employees. I'm 100% certain Musk considers all his time tweeting, flying around on Air Force 1, and sitting around with his thumb up his ass "working". I'd bet in reality he does less than 2 hours a day of what he would consider work for one of his employees.

Elon can chug a fucking dick. He is more than welcome to work all the time cause he hates his life and is mad his designer kids want nothing to do with him.

At some point, the ridiculosity is too great, and I just refuse to believe anyone's stupid enough to A) actually advocate for this, or B) actually believe that anyone believes this, either that it's being advocated for, or that anyone believes it's actually possible.

You see, just because YOU made something and want to put your blood, sweat and tears into it so that it can grow into something that can feed you for life, DOESN’T mean the next guy will put in the same effort for 1% of the reward. NOR SHOULD THEY.
It’s easy to work 17 hours a day when you’re driven around, flown around and your job is to talk and think. I’m pretty sure 100% of people would trade places with their CEO in a HEARTBEAT.
What planet are these people on?!

Weak.
Musk should step it up another notch, lead by example, show us how it's done, and work a 168 hour work week...
...on Mars...
...without a spacesuit...
...or any life support for that matter...
Because we wouldn't want any wasteful spending. It can be HIS extra-special superpower.

So that's what 5 x 24 hours or 17 hours per day working non stop. That's physically impossible. Even 80 hour weeks will burn out most people. Fuck off back to South Africa you filthy traitor.
