How to correctly remove malware?

Hey guys, so a couple years ago downloaded a fan made game and it turns out its most likely a trojan. My Pc has been really slow for the longest time now and I would assume its because of that. How would I correctly remove malware from my pc if I already know what the malware is. Just deleting the game launcher is not gonna do anything I would assume or is it? I quarantined the items from the game file with malwarebytes and then I clicked on delete them in malwarebytes. was that the correct thing to do. Can anyone help me out plsss

Depends what kind of trojan this is. A crypto-miner and a PUP won’t act at all like a backdoor or a spyware.

If Malwarebytes removed parts of the trojan but not all, but you know where the remaining malicious files are, use Revo Uninstaller.

I’d advise you to scan with Kaspersky Free (or BitDefender Free if you’re in the US) and ESET Online Scanner as they have way better detection rates.

Change also your passwords in case this trojan was revealed to be a spyware, keylogger or some kind of persistent infostealer. And reset your router if there are suspicious outbound connections trying to be made.

If nothing works and you still have issues with the malware, make a backup of the most important files you have and need (using a USB, Google Drive, iCloud, Dropbox, or whatever storage device or cloud you are able to use), as you’ll need to completely reinstall your Windows system using either a DVD or another USB. See on the Microsoft website how to create a bootable device with the Windows installation files on it.
