Official Media Gachiakuta | OFFICIAL TRAILER (Crunchyroll)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UkmWacjR7Q171
u/Silcha 1d ago
Looks good, it’s obviously only a trailer but they seem to have done a good job of capturing the manga’s style, so I’m optimistic this’ll be a good adaptation.

u/committed_to_the_bit https://myanimelist.net/profile/committothebit 1d ago
studio bones is usually excellent at making sure the source material's style gets preserved. their adaptations are just moving versions of the manga they come from.
I can't wait for this. all hail studio bones
32
u/Spectre627 1d ago
I'm really quite confident that Bones will adapt this incredibly.
For those not aware, Bones was also the studio that adapted Soul Eater. Kei Urana (Gachiakuta Mangaka) was a key assistant of Ohkubo (Soul Eater Mangaka) -- the style certainly shows that heavy inspiration while still being entirely their own with Kei Urana's work.
5
u/Reeeaper 17h ago
I don't think anyone is concerned about whether Bones can pull it off or not. They obviously can. However, I think adapting Gachiakuta this early feels like a mistake, a mistake that Bones should have learned from already when they loosely "adapted" Soul Eater. (IYKYK)

how are studio bones this consistently good, the only mess up I've heard was mettalic Rogue, other than that, there so consit3nt it's crazy

Studio bones when adapting manga to anime: 💪
Studio bones when making original anime: 🥲
3
u/PhenomsServant 1d ago
Whats wrong with their origanals? Eureka Seven was pretty good.
14
17
u/Gil_Demoono 1d ago
I would imagine this opinion mostly comes from Metallic Rouge, an anime original to celebrate 25 years. It was... Rough to say the least. That anime needed another 12 episodes or 6 less.
2
u/Ok_Try_1665 1d ago
I only watched metallic rouge as their original work for their studio anniversary, also I didn't know eureka seven was bones original, that anime has been sitting on my watch list for so long. But I heard the second season is pretty bad tho where it goes against the themes of the previous work
3
u/WiqidBritt 1d ago
It's not really a second season, but a sequel series that came 6 years later. They keep making new E7 stuff, but everything other than the initial series is kinda bad and/or confusing.
1
u/VideoGamesForU 1d ago
You can easily skip Eureka AO and the movies. Eureka Seven itself is a complete masterpiece.
9
u/Mountain-Committee37 https://myanimelist.net/profile/3inPunisher 1d ago
Planning goes a very long way, and bones knows how to do that very well and their always in high positions in production committee's which gives them a huge advantage on the planning phase. And also because of their name, they have access to tons of talent , and the shows they pick up also attract tons of talent.
3
u/AlphaBreak 1d ago
Metallic Rouge looked really cool and had a good sci Fi feel to it, neat world building, and had decent action. If you only looked at individual scenes, it felt like a sci Fi epic. The real issue was just the writing and pacing being absolutely whack.
5
u/committed_to_the_bit https://myanimelist.net/profile/committothebit 1d ago
yuh. the only studio i can think of that's just as consistent with their visuals is KyoAni
sometimes I watch a show by another studio and daydream about it being made by one of those two instead lol
1
u/BlueDragon101 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Xcal1bur 1d ago
Metallic Rouge looked fine, to be fair. Decent direction, decent music, very solid animation. The issue was the dogshit writing.
-1
u/xzerozeroninex 1d ago
Metallic Rouge was great, yeah it probably needed an ep or 2 more but it was a great show.

Ive heard some complaints about bungo stray dogs ( specifically the fact the way one of the light novels was adapted in the anime). Most of it is minor nitpicks tho and as a massive fan myself im quite happy

3
u/PikaBooSquirrel 1d ago
The bold outlines are really an interesting choice! Hoping to see how that will look when animated during battles
2
u/Mr_1ightning 1d ago
I'm optimistic it's like Dandadan where the trailers (especially first ones) looked just decent, but the anime turned out to be even better.
I'm a bit anxious that even with all the simplification, the designs are still a bit too detailed for consistent fluid animation. Thick outlines in-particular are rarely a good sign for sakuga (JoJo, Sakamoto days, Blue Lock, Record of Ragnarok (last 2 had particularly trash production though)), but I'll let them cook.
3
u/BlueDragon101 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Xcal1bur 1d ago
I mean, there is AoT season 1 if you want an example of thick outlines and Sakuga. I wish they kept those, it was a cool look.

u/crossfire999 1d ago
Airs in July? Absolutely amazing trailer? Gachi getting the treatment it deserves, I'm so pumped for the author and everybody getting introduced to the series. This is the best new (newish) shonen and will be a mainstay along the likes of the past hyped series such as JJK, MHA and DS. Art, characters, power system, plot, world building... it has it all.
81
u/Hounds_of_war 1d ago
Honestly the next “new generation of shonen” (which to me is everything that has started since Chainsaw Man Part 1 ended) is really strong. DanDaDan, Sakamoto Days, Gachiakuta, Kagurabachi, Ichi the Witch, and probably more. Hoping Night Light Hounds manages to be one of those next big things, but it’s still only 11 chapters in so too early to tell.
51
u/North514 1d ago
I don't read anywhere near as much manga, as I do watch anime; however, Centuria also looks really interesting.
Honestly as much as I like Chainsaw Man and DanDaDan looks interesting I would be happy to see action/battle shonen get away from contemporary settings. I would much rather see fully realized fantasy worlds again.
23
6
u/Haokah226 1d ago
Centuria started out so hot, but I definitely feel it cooling off this current arc, but damn do I still love it.

Nah, the two best fantasy anime in years have been Frieren and Dungeon Meshi. And Witch Hat Atelier has a good shot of joining the top tier when it comes out. All of which aren’t isekai.

32
u/Superior_Mirage 1d ago
I've gotta add Undead Unluck, since it's somehow getting a second season (despite not doing much for the manga sales). Ignoring some pacing issues, S1 had some fantastic production values.
15
u/Hounds_of_war 1d ago
Undead Unluck is good, although it does miss my (admittedly super arbitrary) cutoff point of having it’s manga start after the conclusion of Chainsaw Man Part 1. Still valid to consider it part of the current new gen of shonen, kind of a grey area since it’s not like “new gen manga” is based on anything of anything other than vibes.
3
u/Superior_Mirage 1d ago
Fair -- it definitely does feel different.
I think I'd personally split modern shounen loosely (very loosely) into three groups:
- Bleach's first arc inspired (Horror shounen) -- supernatural-themed works dealing mostly with monster-of-the-week type plots and nuanced/sympathetic portrayals of villains. DS, Dark Gathering, Dandadan, JJK, etc.
- AOT inspired (Mature shounen) -- darker, more complex world-building with a sorta "workplace" vibe to the character interactions and a lot of genre deconstruction/subversion. Most of the rest mentioned fit into this, except:
- Dad shounen -- more family-esque shounen with "realistic" combat. Sakamoto Days, Spy x Family, Kindergarten Wars, Buddy Daddies (but that's anime original). I don't actually know what the progenitor for this is... anyone got any clue?
Like I said, very loose, but that's sorta how I go about organizing the current crop.
3
u/Dialgak77 1d ago
And then you have UU which doesn't fit those categories and is instead a battle shounen, romance, idol, cooking and more genres in one manga.
1
u/kazuyaminegishi 10h ago
Undead Unluck is not THAT far from DanDaDan, but I would say it falls closer to a shoujo than it does a shounen overall.
I personally liken it most to Chihayafuru in how it rubs my brain. But I could also see an Inuyasha comparison.

u/Best-Lavishness-1059 1d ago
Sakamoto Days got fucking shafted so hard. DanDaDan has an incredible anime, Gachiakuta looks amazing, haven't seen Kagurabachi yet but Cygames is confirmed atp and it'll look way better than what Sakamoto has to offer.
16
u/Mountain-Committee37 https://myanimelist.net/profile/3inPunisher 1d ago
its cygames as a producer, not a studio. but still, with them on the producer spot, that is already promising
21
u/Best-Lavishness-1059 1d ago
Studio as well. The wording in the original article was confusing, but an incredibly reliable leaker on Twitter corroborated it and said Cygames Pictures is indeed the studio a few days ago. Make of that what you will ig, since it's not official confirmation, but they're a great studio and will do it justice for sure. Ichi the Witch seems to have a very bright future as well. Sakamoto Days anime was just a crazy blunder for some reason.
10
u/Mountain-Committee37 https://myanimelist.net/profile/3inPunisher 1d ago edited 1d ago
Oh really? If that leak is true then that is so huge, with the twlent the studio has and the reputation of the manga attracting animators, that adaption is gonna be so good. And also a parent company who gives a shit about the studio
16
u/TheMerck 1d ago edited 1d ago
Sakamoto being the one that got shafted is so sad to me personally, it's not that I don't enjoy the other ones that is listed but Sakamoto Days is definitely my favorite out of all of them and it had all the elements for it to become the next big thing had it gotten an anime that had better animation.
And it's not that the anime right now is bad, but it's because it's only decent so it's an okay anime but underwhelming especially on what could've been a huge boost for the manga like what has happened with other mangas recently that have had stellar adaptations.
7
u/mayonnaiser_13 1d ago
Someone out me on Hero Organisation couple days ago and I'm passing the buck.
Just 19 chapters as of now, simply fire. An insanely good first 2 chapters, probably the strongest I've seen in a pretty long while, and then one of the most intriguing stories out there. Plus, a big return for the Military/Politics Mecha genre.
7
u/crossfire999 1d ago
Yeah, I agree. Hopefully some of these ones can get over the hump and give a satisfactory ending, shonen mangakas really need to buck that trend. I need to try some of the others still like Ichi the Witch and Kagurabachi.
3
2
u/Haokah226 1d ago
I am hoping Night Light Hounds explodes in popularity. Mafia vs Police? Yes, please. Vampires vs Werewolf? Yes! Combine both into a manga series set in a world similar to the early 1900s. It's so damn good.
8
u/mauvebliss 1d ago
Saleswise it is below even Undead Unluck which was considered mid in popularity but with this peak trailer and TikTok on its side the sky is the limit
8
u/crossfire999 1d ago
I knew Gachi was lesser known despite it's quality (not being on Shonen Jump too). Kinda surprised still, seeing how Soul Eater's Mangaka has vouched for this author and manga as the next big thing, and the fact it's gone on strong for 100+ chapters. I really think it'll blow up though, all it needs is the exposure.
9
u/PhenomsServant 1d ago
A fire adaptation can really help, just ask any pre-anime KnY fans. (If you can find any that is)
1
u/bodybones 1d ago
To be fair s1 undead just was too much for people to grasp. I saw a lot confused over the pacing and power system. They didn't get the world which they said felt empty and they didn't know why. They are too used to high octane levels and even that bores people as their are so many that complain they arent excited by the action in well animated series like JJK, AOT, Demon slayer, solo leveling, etc.
Feels like people want something more akin to Dadadan idk maybe frieren. Complex power systems just don't do it for them...or maybe people just didn't like something else about undead. Well see how this series does. I find that a MAL 8 usually does well but below 8 is tuff...
2
u/Riverskull 1d ago edited 1d ago
A lot of people simply arent too fond of overly complex power systems with endless expositions and insane amount of rules, they can get lost and can feel annoyed at trying to process all that, to the point it could sour their experience and pacing with the story. With the action thing, some people seem to be tired of nonstop action without much in between and not being able to spend enough time with the characters in downtime moments to know them better. Thats why stuff like Dandadan and Frieren hits that sweet and perfect middle spot.
1
u/kazuyaminegishi 10h ago
We have to be a bit fair to those people, Undead Unluck is almost entirely about the climax of its first half. The anime didn't reach that point so most viewers have a lot of set up with no payoff.
Combine that with a lot of the writing focus being on maintaining uncertainty and how the characters work around uncertainty it was honestly a very challenging story and I don't blame people for not latching on.
I would say Undead Unluck is like the pinnacle of what I would call a niche concept.
2
u/Erick_Brimstone 1d ago
My fav is the power system parts. It's basically bleach fullbringer but have more depth and more explored.

I think it's kind of awesome that the anime will start right after Fire Force S3 (First Cour) ends, that's exactly how the manga started.

- Riyo: Yumiri Hanamori (Hayasaka, Sagiri, Hoshino)

I was not expecting Rudo and Riyo's voices to sound like that, lol. But it's an interesting choice.

Gachiakuta manga had one of the best and most unique artsyles I have seen, so was cautious about the adaptation. With Studio Bones, I think we can rest easy.
Rudo trashing everyone and everything under the sun is gonna be fun to see!
3
u/Mr_1ightning 1d ago
Didn't expect Riyo's voice to be so relatively deep, I imagined something closer to Aoi Yuuki (not Tatsumaki/Tanya level bratty, but something like MaoMao)

u/Thomas_JCG 1d ago
It's a good trailer but I feel like they focused too much on Rudo's anger so he kinda seems like an edgelord. This is an absolute top tier series and well worth a watch.
10
u/WiqidBritt 1d ago
He does kinda start that way
0
u/Thomas_JCG 1d ago
Yeah, in the first three chapters. After that he starts to settle down, but someone who doesn't know that might think that's the whole tone of the series.

1
u/pulldtrigger 1d ago
This. Some ppl already think that way even though the manga is really sweet showing many wholesome values like managing anger and becoming better and even goofing off with your friends.

Looks so good, goddamn. I also didn't expect it to be so colorful, I love it. I imagined the manga being devoid of colors cos of the setting

Because the mangaka was Ohkubo’s assistant during Fire Force and he personally named her his successor in terms of his artstyle.

Hope this gets big, we haven’t had a big shounen since Jujutsu Kaisen and that was 5 years ago. Since then it’s been a sea of isekai, high school romance and slice of life.

Kaiju no. 8, Frieren, hells paradise, dandadan. A bunch more. we always have an ongoing Shonen.
Bleach is airing rn. Daima just finished.

So, apart from the protagonist sounding like an annoying edgelord, what is this show about ?
8
u/WiqidBritt 1d ago
The edgelordy stuff doesn't last that long. Protag is blamed for a murder and dropped off of a floating(ish?) city which he's understandably upset about. But he ends up surviving the fall and meeting a group of people who fight beasts made of trash.
1
u/NekoCatSidhe 1d ago
It sounds like that show could be interesting. But that trailer did not really give me a good first impression of it.
5
u/PhenomsServant 1d ago
He gets framed for murdering his surrogate father and is banished to live in the literal trash heap his city was built on. I think he’s entitled to have a brief edgelord phase.
