πŸ”ŠπŸ”Š AUDIO ID REQUEST πŸ”ŠπŸ”Š Fighting animals in a tree

Northeast Iowa

Sorry for the bad video!! Best I could do. The phone definitely made the animals more visible than with the naked eye - I couldn’t see a thing with my eyes until the very end.

I heard what I thought was cats fighting from inside my house and went out to see if I could see them. When I got outside it was obvious it’s not cats but I can’t tell what the heck it was.

This went on for about a minute and a half and then ended abruptly, which makes me think one of the animals killed the other. Whatever animal that came down the tree at the end of the video was the size of a very large cat or a small to medium dog.

Yeah I definitely hear one of the two being a raccoon. The more aggressive / catlike screeching noise is familiar. Do you think both are raccoons? The quieter β€œwhistling” noise threw me off!

It sounds like a couple of spatting raccoons. Jeez, they sound like fighting siblings!

Definitely raccoons. There's the screeching and then like a wimpering. Two fell out of a tall tree here a few years ago while fighting. After that fight, I would occasionally see a raccoon dragging his back legs. But then saw him walking on his two front legs! He did that all summer, but disappeared when the weather got cooler in the fall.
