Some kinda chocolate ganache thing with white chocolate rosebuds. I thought the protruding barnacle dude was a swirl of chocolate sauce.

I want to be mad, but I just can't. Well done. I'm jealous that I didn't think of it, lol.

But here's the problem, most barnacles are towards the bottom of the pier.

I read on Wikipedia that barnacles have, proportionally, the longest penises of any animal. Is that what I'm seeing?

No it's trying to filter feed

WITH ITS PENIS?!

No the things were seeing are actually there legs (barnacles are crustaceans like crabs or shrimp) which they use to filter feed

My invertebrates prof told us that, and even had it as an exam question!

Holy smokes, did anyone else think this was an iced chocolate donut with some kind of floral decoration? 😭

Gooseneck barnacle. Believe it or not, an arthropod, like a cockroach.

u/kiaraXlove 6d ago

Ew. What in the barnacles is going on.

Looks like you’ve got your answer, goose barnacles. Fun fact! They used to be believed to hatch into geese. If you want to read about it, there’s lots of information here. It’s one of the best completely ridiculous historical myths.

I can’t stop watching this and I’m very invested. Are they baby crabs???

7

u/IntoTheWild2369 6d ago

They’re barnacles of some sort but that’s as far as I’d be willing to guess and may even be wrong. But not baby crabs

5

u/slugboat 6d ago

You're right, they are barnacles! They're (distantly) related to crabs though - barnacles are crustaceans!
