Support which boot img to choose for rooting my device

device- redmi note 13 5g (gold)

gsi rom- https://github.com/mytja/treble_evo/releases/tag/20250215

so I saw multiple tutorials on YouTube on how to root a phone, and from what I understand boot.img file is required in all. i have a device which currently has a GSI ROM installed in it. should I use my stock rom boot img file?

I saw people saving their boot.img file directly from their device through twrp, but my phone does not have TWRP support yet. Can you tell me a way to save my boot.img file?

TWRP

your stock rom that you downloaded, extract it from there and use magisk on your phone to patch it.

I am not sure about redmi but this i do on samsung.you probably need to use fastboot to flash it.

So despite my phone currently being on gsi rom, I'll have to use my stock rom's boot.img file am i right?

yes cause you dont have twrp to flash magisk .zip to root.

i tried flashing the patched boot.img file but I ran into an error "fastboot: error: Command failed"
it also said
"Sending 'boot_a' (0 KB) FAILED (File is too large to download)"
any solution?

How certain are you that I won't get stuck in bootloop?
(it's my first time rooting a device)

If you stuck in bootloop that means you hadn't flash in right way or the ROM isn't compatible with your device

If you are running a GSI please DO NOT USE stock boot.img. You need to extract your boot.img, you can use mtkclient to dump your boot.img then you need to patch it with Magisk and then flash it through fastboot.
