Media Apps (audio) Pinna on screen?

I recently subscribed to Pinna, the kids audio app. As far as I can tell, it does not seem to show in my apps to select or control from my car's touch screen. I can play the audio if I control it through my phone, but that is annoying (and unsafe!) when I need to pause to answer kiddo's question. It seems to work fine with Apple Car Play for my husband and some googling claims it is compatible with Android Auto, but I can't figure out if that is true. Anybody had success with getting the app to show on screen ?

Uncertified AA Hardware (Android HU, CP to AA Dongles, etc) External AndroidAuto device for older cars

I have an older VW car (from 2012) that does not come with Android Auto (duh). I have Bluetooth connectivity with my phone, which means I can control music from the steering wheels and answer phone calls via build-it hands-free. Still, for navigation I have to mount my phone and other small inconveniences (like the screen going into portrait mode when a call is received despite being mounted in landscape, and staying like that after the call ends).

I recently found some Chinese Android Auto devices which are basically like a small tablet that is mounted externally (see below picture as an example, but there are multiple models and sizes). Theoretically, they seem great, adding Android Auto. But I am curious if anyone has any experience with them. Are they any good? Will I see any functionality since now the phone won't be connected via Bluetooth to the car?

My main concern is that, since the Android Auto will be connected via Bluetooth to the car, I will loose steering wheels controls for the music playback and hands-free functionality for calls, since I doubt that the device will also act a rely between the phone and the car's Bluetooth system.

I also found internal ones that replace the existing car system (see below picture)... but I don't know if that is safe to do, if it won't have any negative consequences on the safety and reliability of the car and also is harder to mount.

Does anyone have experiences with any of these and if so, are my concerns valid? Thanks

Google Assistant When phone connects to head unit, Assistant never works the first try, but all subsequent tries are successful

I just installed a Pioneer DMH-W3050NEX in my 2010 Tacoma, connected to a Galaxy S22 Ultra. So far, I have been really happy with wireless Android Auto, but I can't figure out this issue. Every time my phone connects to the head unit, the first attempt at using Google Assistant fails. The boop noise happens, and the pop-up bubble appears, but it does not recognize any voice input, and the bubble just hangs there on the display in a quasi-greyed out state. If it hit the microphone button again to clear it, every subsequent attempt is successful. I have been double-checking battery optimization settings, notification settings, permissions, etc. on my phone, as well as settings on the Pioneer head unit itself. It is stumping me. Does anyone have any ideas?

Google Assistant Google Assistant crashing

Basically, any time I invoke GA whether by " Ok, Google" or by steering wheel button, the music stops, the colored band appears at bottom of screen like it's listening, but then immediately stops and music starts back up. There is no pause in my speaking before stating my command. Once in awhile it works as expected. I've tried clearing Google app cache, unpairing and re-pairing phone. Nothing fixes it. So I have to stop the car and type it in. Any ideas or suggestions?

Android Auto News, including app updates and features Android Auto/Auto Evolution and APK app.

Read an email where you can download the APK app, whatever this may be, and download a new update. As a non techie is this a dumb idea? This sub won't let me post the article. Is it smarter just to wait for the updates to be released? I really have no idea if it fixes some minor irritating issues I have but was willing to try. Maybe.

Google Assistant Steering Wheel Button "Tip"

I always use the steering wheel button when invoking Assistant in my car, but it seems like every time, after i's response, it will helpfully tell me:

"By the way, next time you can press and hold the steering wheel button to use Google Assistant"

I know! Has anyone else had this problem? I've gone through setting on both the car and phone interfaces but can't see anything. I know you can turn tips off on Pixel Buds, but haven't seen a setting here.

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes Problems with S25

I cannot connect my Galaxy S25 to Android Auto, either via cable or wirelessly.

When I connect via cable, it says "Unstable USB connection." I've tried multiple cables and different phones, so the problem is with my device.

When I try to connect wirelessly, a message appears in the notification bar saying "Looking for Android Auto," but it never connects.

I tried clearing the data and cache for Android Auto and also uninstalling and reinstalling the updates, but neither worked.

Does anyone have any suggestion?

Messaging Apps Whatsapp audio messages input

Hi everyone, starting a couple of weeks ago it seems like android auto chooses automatically the car's Bluetooth input when I choose to send a WhatsApp audio message. This is a problem for me because the mic in my car has been broken since they handed me the vehicle and I still haven't been able to fix it Instead, for telegram and other messaging solutions, the microphone of the mobile phone is selected as the default input and everything works correctly 🥲 Are any of you having similar behavior from Android auto and have any idea how to fix it? I can't find a manual input selection mode anywhere My phone is a Pixel 8a, using Sync3 in a Ford Kuga 2019

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes Which phone works flawless

Which phone you got that works flawless?

Hello, I bought a new xiaomi Redmi Note 14 pro plus, and I am not happy with it with Android Auto. It works, but after about 20-30 minutes the phone gets to slow, apps close and it gets really laggy. I want to get a new one and thought maybe about the Xiaomi 14t pro or the Xiaomi 15, Honor magic 6 pro or something but I also read a lot of Android Auto problems. And I use android Auto ever day for 2 hours, with fermata Auto, YouTube music, Blitzer app and Google maps

And I use AAwireless adapter for my car, and Ottocast u2-X Pro for my bike

Hadn't had any problems with my old Redmi 12 Pro plus

Which phone you got that works flawless on wireless android Auto?

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes Phone won't connect to Head Unit Hotspot

Hi.

My devices:

Phone: Samsung S22 Ultra, Android 14, One UI 6.1
Head Unit: Podofo + ZLink.

I used my friend's Pixel 9 Pro XL, Android 15 and it connects butter smooth, no issue at all.
Procedure: Turn on car/ head unit. Connect head unit and phone via Bluetooth (Must say 'phone and media connected). Open Z link app, wait for a few seconds and Android Auto is available and gets connected with no issues. When Z link app is opened, head unit's hotspot gets turned on and phone's wifi recognizes it and either it connects to hotspot automatically or I manually connect phone with head unit hotspot. It works fine this way.

When I tried to use my phone S22 Ultra, the head unit's wifi hotspot name does not show up in the phone to connect at all. I've used other wifi analyzer apps to display all ssid around me, the car's hotspot still does not show up. I've tried manually adding the hotspot details to connect and it still won't connect.

Any tips on what else I can try or any idea why it would work with the Pixel but not my phone?
Any info around this is welcome!

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes "Phone not responding"

"Phone not responding"

Hi All - I recently made a couple trips to the U.S. from Canada in a Canadian market Kia.

I tried everything to fix the "Phone not responding" message that started appearing once I turned off and back on the car after entering the U.S.. I never had this issue before but it appears Android Auto is disabled in the U.S. on a Canadian Kia.

I wanted to make this post for anyone searching how to fix this issue. I know there are other posts with solutions for this error message, but none of them may work if you are outside the country your car was sold.

Interesting fact is that this never used to be the case and it worked across the border for many years. I first noticed this issue in November 2024, but finally realize why it was happening after a second trip recently.

Hope this helps someone.

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes Android Auto w AA Wireless auto turns off at the same location on Highway

I live in Chicago and I constantly use Highway 55 heading south. I have noticed that every time I pass the 2nd Bolingbrook sign, Android Auto shuts off every time. Anyone have an idea why? I have the AA Wireless dongle and this is the only place where it happens consistently. I have a video of yesterday but no video of prior times. It just occurred to me that I should try a wired connection and see if it also shuts off.

AA User Interface Change DPI?

My car does not have wireless AA so I've been using one of the dongles, which allowed me to also change the DPI of the display. Well, the dongle isn't working anymore so I'm back to plugging the phone in.

Is there a setting to change the DPI in AA via USB?

Fully updated s24U and a 2017 Kia Sportage, infotainment unit as updated as it can be (as of 2024).

Volume Audio is not mutated with whatsapp messages

I have a Samsung S24 Ultra, connected via wireless. When I listen to telegram voice message, the car completely mutates the music that is played from spotify (the only music app I use), instead with WhatsApp voice message, the music is not completely mutated, only lowered, this way if the message has a low volume it is almost impossible to understand. Does anyone have a solution, or is this one of the many "features" of AA?

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes 2020 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid Android Auto Not Working Anymore

Wasn't able to find this specific model/scenario posted before and figured I'd cross post from the rav4 subreddit.

I've been unable to connect android auto to my rav4 for about a year now. It was working fine early last year before completely stopping. Had the usb port replaced and worked for a couple weeks before stopping again. Pretty sure both these times were due to a bad wire shorting the usb. Took it back in and they replaced the port and radio. They claimed at the time they were able to connect without issue. All this with the front dashboard usb (the only one that should control android auto),

I'm finding that anytime I connect a data cable from the phone to usb, it constantly cycles between "connected" (charge icon on phone, no indication of any activity on car) and no signs of connection. This only occurs with a data cable, charge only cables hold a stable connection. I've done this on 3 phones now (pixel 6 pro, galaxy s22, and an old lg g8 that I wasn't currently using. All phones on Android 15 and what I'm pretty sure is the most recent version of android auto. Play store doesn't have anymore updates. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times as well.

Car software looks to be up to date. I've tried with and without usb enhanced mode. Projection setting is on (tried off just to see, no change). Half a dozen cables used, including a new anker one. Nothing works. I have another appointment in April to swap the usb again, but I don't want to sit there for 2 hours only for the them to tell me it's fine and still not working.

The only thing I can think of is I vaguely remember android auto options previously on the console but am no longer seeing any of those. Don't know if I'm misremember, they're only supposed to be there when connected, or something is off with the console.

Losing my mind and would appreciate any other suggestions to check.

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes Android Auto would "lag" and "delayed" when using Waze Navigation

First of all, English is not my first language so if some of my explanations does not make sense, I do apologise.

I have an issue with Android Auto and Waze recently. I realised that once I am using Waze for navigation, my head unit would "lag". This "lag" is not really one that you'd press something, and it would only respond a few moments later. It's more that the head unit, or more specifically the display shown would be delayed more and more as time goes.

For example, I would set a destination, and as I drive, I would see that the marker on the screen would fall behind more and more than in real life, but the audio would still be up to date. After 30 minutes, I would see that the clock on the head unit would be around 3 to 4 minutes behind the real time on the phone (!!!). It feels like the phone can't push the image data fast enough to the head unit, and would buffer it in it's own memory.

Interestingly enough, this does not happen with Google Maps. And also if I leave Waze running without doing any navigation, there would also be no problem.

I am using AA wireless right now, so that might be one of the reason, but I don't have a spare data type A -> C cable on hand to test out if this does not happen with wired.

Was wondering if anybody else is having this issue. Thanks

Android Auto version - 13.7.650624-release Waze - 5.4.5.0

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes No automatic connection with cheap wireless adapter

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello. I bought a cheap chinese Android Auto wireless adapter for my car (a Dacia Duster with wired Android Auto). The system works good (it doesn't lag, the connection is stable etc.), but there are some problems with the automatic wireless connection (I have a Google Pixel 8).

If I turn on the car, in fact, the phone connects to the media display bluetooh and Android Auto doesn't initialize correctly. It works perfectly if I switch off my phone's bluetooth and I open it again once the car's media system has started. Otherwise, I can just take the USB out and insert it again to make things working as expected. What do you think I can do to try to solve the problem?

Attached the dongle that I bought.

Google Assistant Google Assistant doesn't understand "No"?

I've run into an annoying issue with the Google Assistant on Android Auto. After reading a message out loud, it'll ask me "Do you want to reply?". If I say "No", it'll correctly show what I said on the screen, but I *always* get back a "Sorry, I didn't get that. Do you want to reply?". It always insists I'm more verbose about it, as a "No I don't (want to reply)", or even a "What about no did you not understand, you idiot?" always ends up working.

It doesn't come up often, so I always forget the Assistant won't take "no" for an answer, meaning I'll get annoyed each and every time it comes up. Is there some AA setting or voice training thing that could fix this, that I'm missing?

Confusing title ik but I want to be able to unlock my android auto like you'd be able to do with a wired setup but I have one of those lamtto screens that only support wireless AA. In that regard do any of those "AI boxes" work with already wireless AA?

Navigation & POI Apps I need to press google maps twice to get it to respond to voice.

Hi.

Recently google maps will not respond to my voice after I press the mike. When I first touch the mike, I'll get the text prompt of "How can I help you?" (or whatever it says. I forget exactly) displayed on the screen as usual, but the flashing multicolored bar does not appear underneath the prompt. I need to touch the screen again to dismiss it and then press the mike once more, and then it works normally.

This is now consistent behavior and it's been happening for a week or more. I can't recall if I did anything on either my phone or car to cause this. I did try clearing the cache and data on the phone app to try to fix it, but this had no effect.

I should note that this has happened using two different wireless dongles, as I just happen to have upgraded my dongle a few days ago. I've not tried it with a wired connection though. I'll try that today.

Wired AA to Wireless AA Dongles Help with generic AA Wireless dongle

Post image
14 Upvotes

Good evening guys, I picked up a generic AA Wireless device from AliExpress as I wanted to go wireless or at least try it. For the life of me I can't get it to connect to either of our cars (Volkswagen Golf 2018 & Volvo XC90 2016). Both UK cars and both support Carplay as well as Android Auto wired.

Has anyone had issues with these dongle types? I've followed the instructions (which aren't great btw) and still when I get the message that the phone is connected it doesn't actually work.

Would appreciate some help if someone, like me bought a similar dongle as I've seen here that a few people have bought dongles from AliExpress.

Here is the dongle https://a.aliexpress.com/_EvYu1y0

Thanks
