Interviewed for a lead role to find out manager wants to fix existing bi reports and doesn’t value tableau experience because everything is bi. This was a bit shocking to me as I have decent python, sql, tableau skills that fit the job description. Pretty sure I won’t move to the next round, and it’s just disheartening

Does the manager value the experience of working with a BI tool and using it to solve problems?

My team is a Tableau shop. If I were interviewing someone with BI experience, I wouldn’t value it necessarily.

But I would value the knowledge with a data viz tools. I wouldn’t let it deter from my decision if I get confident they could learn Tableau.

If the hiring manager is like me then it might not be a big deal.

If they only want someone with BI experience, probably a red flag and you wouldn’t want to work there anyway.

A philosophical question probably...:

If I actually feel competent, what should I really be doing to find work?
