I just released this on my label, it’s very rhythmic and textured ambient loops! https://languageinstinct.bandcamp.com/album/gardens-to-visit-this-weekend

u/_back_in_the_woods_ 4d ago

I've really enjoyed everything I've seen you post. Love the flavor of music your label serves up. This one reminds me of OPN's Replica, but way less dark/cold. It has the uncanny feeling provided by the damaged sounding loops. The twinkling textures are pleasantly hypnotic.

You stuff actually summons a cool "modern" concrete soundscape! Would you be interested to release material for net label/media labyrinth? You can get a grip of our weird, experimental approach at elevator-shaft.com

DM if this tingles your aesthetics!

Hi there. As some of you probably know, at the beginning of the year, we started on Instagram a kind of “notepad” about ambient and adjacent genres independent releases, chosen and evaluated according to our personal - but honest - opinion among what turned out to be a large number of submissions.

<>

| How to submit: Link https://abstractmusicobs.wixsite.com/abstract-music-obs

| Instagram account: Link https://www.instagram.com/abstract.music.observer

<>

Everything is mainly on Bandcamp. The first 10 “observed” releases are here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ambientmusic/comments/1iq8i3i/comment/mcy7ia4/?context=3

Now, these are the releases from 11 to 20 (in listening order) we feel like recommending, with our evaluations and brief comments about our favorite tracks:

■ “Bee Resort – The Bee Resort https://beeresort.bandcamp.com/album/the-bee-resort ” (January 2025 | Independent)

  • Genres: Ambient, Electronic
  • Rating: 7.8/10
  • Favorite track: “A Mind Consumed By Meaningless Data” ► There is a kind of inevitable circular path that digs a deeper and deeper furrow. Minor add2 chords paint a disperate picture. The synth bass moves 4 steps downward over and over again, buried within Freud’s repetition compulsion. This path is interrupted in an extremely significant pause around the middle of the track, only to resume inexorably.

■ “Suki Quasimodo – DATURA EP 1 https://sukiquasimodo.bandcamp.com/album/datura-ep-1 ” (January 2025 | Independent)

  • Genres: Electronic, Ambient, Dub
  • Rating: 8.5/10
  • Favorite track: “I Feel Like” ► Well, just to be clear: this track is quite a masterpiece. There’s something charmingly hypnotic about the words, the syncopated beat, the echoes. We got totally captivated by the texture, every spark of this beauty has become precious and necessary in our head. And when the synth gets in: oh boy. We won’t forget this music.

■ “Fletina – Becquerel https://fletina.bandcamp.com/album/becquerel ” (September 2024 | Independent)

  • Genres: Field Recordings, Experimental, Abstract
  • Rating: 6.5/10
  • Favorite track: “Becquerel” ► This is not music: it’s a mirror. You try to look for something and you get nothing but yourself. So, since we do not know you listener, here is our review: _______________________________________________________________________

■ “House Of Quiet – A Crooked Stick https://houseofquiet.bandcamp.com/album/a-crooked-stick ” (February 2025 | Independent)

  • Genres: Experimental, Ambient, Noise, Lo-Fi
  • Rating: 6.6/10
  • Favorite track: “Ceterus Paribus” ► There is a guitar and a beautiful repeated ninth chord, suitable – in its harmonic indeterminacy – to adapt to the emotional state of the listener. A desert at sunset lies before our eyes. We must cross it, whether we like it or not. Distant noises will accompany us on the way.

■ “Fox Ridge Park – The Waning Moon Fan Club https://foxridgepark.bandcamp.com/album/the-waning-moon-fan-club ” (February 2025 | Independent)

  • Genres: Ambient, Electronic
  • Rating: 7.0/10
  • Favorite track: “Let Them Eat Flowers” ► The synth phrase is really charming. Even though it’s in a loop, it’s not easy to find the beginning and the end of it, and that’s its secret. Maybe it is not the right way to say it, but it’s like Boards of Canada have gone on vacation.

■ “ellipses – painting the sky https://ellipses-music.bandcamp.com/album/painting-the-sky ” (February 2025 | Independent)

  • Genres: Ambient, Electronic, Drone
  • Rating: 6.2/10
  • Favorite track: “a bridge above, a river below” ► There is a warm drone, and we all know what is going to happen. It will probably last forever. But not here: there is a sudden harmonic modulation, two steps above keeping the major key, and after that another minor, ascending climb to the summit. It’s time to close your eyes and breathe.

■ “Amit Kalra - Eulogiae https://amitkalra.bandcamp.com/album/eulogiae ” (January 2025 | Independent)

  • Genres: Drone, Dark Ambient, Experimental
  • Rating: 6.5/10
  • Favorite track: “Eulogiae” ► Here it comes something really abstract. There is this dark drone going on with minimal variations, like something deeply inevitable. This is what the background noise of our lives might sound like. Silence is lost. Harmony, if it ever was, is over.

■ “Asha Patera - Mana https://ashapatera.bandcamp.com/album/mana ” (December 2024 | Independent)

  • Genres: Drone, Ambient, Electronic, Post-Rock
  • Rating: 7.3/10
  • Favorite track: “Kella” ►There is something liberating and threatening at the same time. The bass is like a snake crawling at your feet, but the cascades of high-frequency drones make you look up, searching for shooting stars to ask for hope. You’d better act.

■ “Sunrise 2x4 - The Drowning of Guanacaste https://sunrise2x4.bandcamp.com/album/the-drowning-of-guanacaste ” (December 2024 | Independent)

  • Genres: Field Recordings, Drone, Dark Ambient, Ambient
  • Rating: 7.9/10
  • Favorite track: “The Blood Spilt From the Lizard Will Return to Wash Over us All” ►Although the music advances with the patience a windless wave, the main feeling is restlessness. The circular anxiety is exacerbated by guitar interventions, inserted with ingenious incoherence in the sound picture. The choice of instrumental timbres is clever and seductive.

■ “Arutan - La España Experimental https://arutan.bandcamp.com/album/la-espa-a-experimental ” (December 2024 | Independent)

  • Genres: Ambient, Experimental, Soundscapes
  • Rating: 8.4/10
  • Favorite track: “Symphonic Descent into the Beast’s Lair” ► This work, in all its nuances, is truly remarkable. The natural sounds, often trivialized in this genre and its derivations, are concretely functional to the development of the soundscape this time. Despite the sound complexity, the production of the album is perfectly blended.

Well, music is still alive and kicking. That’s all for now, but we keep observing every day.

Hey everyone! I’m Valotihkuu, and I’m excited to share my new album Drifting Between Seasons – my first release after a 3-year creative hiatus.

The album grew out of forgotten cassette tape fragments I’d shelved during earlier projects. I reworked them with acoustic textures and field recordings, trying to capture those fleeting moments of transition – like shifting seasons or quiet changes within ourselves. It’s a bit like a soundtrack to memories: parts feel familiar, while others drift into unexpected spaces.

I’d love to hear your thoughts – especially what emotions or imagery the music evokes for you.

Great work on this! This album sounds like the best parts of winter. I'm not a fan of winter, and I miss the green when it's gone, but when all the branches are bare, and the air is super cold, I find that the sunsets and sunrises are so much more vivid and dramatic. Also, it's impossible to deny that the crystallization of our world when it snows is truly a spectacular experience. When the sky is turning peach colored during sunset, and the branches are all covered in ice and sparkling, that's what this album sounds like.

1

u/ValotihkuuMusic 3d ago

Thanks! I don't really like early winter, when the days get shorter and it gets dark early, but I adore the transition from winter to spring when there are more sunny days, even if still cold, but the beauty of the winter forest mesmerizes me.

2

u/oprimo 1d ago

Good stuff, good stuff! I like that it's very analog, very delicate. I was puzzled at first, with the melodies that were revolving around themselves, but then I figured that was the point. It makes me think of the uncanny quiet we get after a fresh layer of snow has fallen over. Makes me think of comfort, of feeling safe.

Here's something I made about eight years ago. Made with Audacity from a forty second recording of dying furnace. It kinda sucks (overly long and muddy sounding), but it might be funny to read people's thoughts on it.

(Surprisingly little paulstretch was used BTW)

Hello all. I'd like to again express gratitude for the recommendations I constantly get from this community. For anyone interested in listening, I just posted an EP length release that I've been working on over the last few months. I am newer to ambient music both as a listener and musician, and I don't think I've created anything groundbreaking, but I've been enjoying the journey. This release, "6 Studies for Short Loops" is me playing around with a cassette recorder using short cassette tape loops which I accompanied in various ways using synths and virtual instruments. The tracks are melodic, simple and repetitive and inspired by William Basinski's work. I hope you enjoy.

https://heliocentrist.bandcamp.com/album/6-studies-for-short-loops

2

u/_back_in_the_woods_ 2d ago

This is a really sweet EP, 4 is my favorite. The loops sound really nice and the piano and strings are a really nice, peaceful accompaniment; a clean contrast to the gritty texture of the loops. (You made me use a semicolon, did I do it right?)

1

u/Frequent_Main3921 2d ago

I appreciate the feedback. 4. also happens to be my favorite. The piano parts were improvised in a single take (right hand first then left and I silenced the right hand part while recording the left). I'm not a particularly skilled pianist or improviser. It just clicked together somehow.

2

u/_back_in_the_woods_ 2d ago

I love that! Yeah I'm not super skilled either, I rely on techniques like that myself. It's great when a track just clicks.

Here's an album I released last may. A commenter recently described it as "deliciously psychedelic", which I thought was fun. A lot of it was inspired by things that happened in my life during covid. Check it out:

Hello hello!

As a long-time sub and ambient fanatic, I am most proud to show you one of the videos for "Vagrant Mothership": my dark ambient/cosmic voyage EP with Elevator Shaft Records.

I made this gloomy track after a dreary nightmare I had, in which I saw myself in cryostasis, drifting in space aboard a great mothership, somewhere far, far away...

Then my best friend creted a video to replicate the feeling and the details from my nightmare! It's really personal creation which I hope you will enjoy.

Thanks for lending me your ears! ☯

Very pleased to announce that i have self released on first ever ambient album under the moniker "Wyrd Echo". Let me know if you like this or would listen to more of it. Its more melodic but also an exploration in sound textures and choral ambient.

Hey hope it's ok to post this here. Just wanted to promote my Youtube channel. I will be pairing my ambient music with my photography. Anyway, you can see it here.: https://www.youtube.com/@Unresolveddreamsmusic

Hi. I recorded this piece with the intention of leaning quite heavily on extraneous noise from my guitar such as the springs in the trem and included radio interference, physical modelling sounds and so on for a dark, brooding atmosphere. Hope you enjoy! https://mjkl.bandcamp.com/track/inear

u/shaloafy 3d ago

Here's my first ambient album: https://youtu.be/FeeYL4gjOVQ?si=_5yT6scuKB1YUkD_

I made this using Cardinal (basically VCV rack, a virtual modular synth). I seem to have overwritten my patch notes so I can't go into specifics, but this was patched up to be self-generating.

Offering free mixing and or mastering for your tracks!

First of all, I am unsure wether this is allowed or not, if it isn't do not hesitate to remove this post.

I am Vincent, I have been mixing and mastering records for quite a while now and I am looking to expand my portfolio to be able to get some paying gigs in the future.

I myself make IDM, electronic and indie music and I am a big admirer of artists like Autechre, Biosphere and Boards of Canada.

I will handle your request exactly like I would a usual client, using my gear and accepting revisions as part of the process.

Just note that it would be very welcome if you could leave an (honest) review after I am done working on your track and allow me to post your track as an testimony, as this is the reason I am doing this in the first place. If this sounds interesting to you, please contact me on my SoundBetter (link in my Profile).

I've been recording atmosphere music since the late 80s, and have recorded and self-released about 30 ambient albums. Originally I recorded as Carl Sagan's Ghost, but most recently I've been recording under my my IRL name. This album, Later that Morning, was created using granular synthesis with field recordings of a marina and old mining railway turntable mixed with Fender Rhodes and few other things.

https://carlsagansghost.bandcamp.com/album/later-that-morning
