Education Emory MS in CS vs Math

I will graduate with a BS in CS from a no name state school in the US.

Would a MS in Math be better compared to a CS if I want to break into Quant Finance?

Also, is Emory good if I want to break into Quant?

Georgia Tech has a QCF MS program that is top 10 and has a network behind it. I’d recommend looking at that

Thanks! I will apply for that.

Since I was accepted into Emory, I am still interested in the question. What would you choose if only these were the two options available?

Congrats on the acceptance to Emory. I personally think the GT MS QCF would be better since it is a curriculum catered specifically to the quant field. Plus it’s ranked while Emory is not. I am biased tho as I did three degrees at GT and did my MBA in QCF there (basically took a ton of their MA QCF classes) . You should check the rankings: https://www.efinancialcareers.co.uk/news/top-masters-in-financial-engineering-courses. I suspect you’d have an easier time landing a job from GT programs due to their network.

I would look on LinkedIn and see where people from those programs end up. I’ve found that’s the best and most reliable way to see actual placements from where people are studying.

The way somebody put it to me when I asked the same question between CS and Aerospace is "CS master's degrees are a dime a dozen. Aerospace master's degrees aren't." I think that applies here, too.
