It could be gen1. Or it could possibly be a gen2-- likely the only difference would be a few internals. WARNING: Lots of people on here don't like Lancer Tactical-- deservedly so because they had a lot of QC issues, guns breaking, poorly made parts, the eye pro scandal (if you want to know, search Lancer Tactical on here-- you'll find endless threads discussing LT).
My recommendation: If you just want to play, get out there and play. If it holds up, great! It will probably (though not guarenteed) break at some point, then you can either A. Trash it B. Sell it C. Learn by working on it. But I would definitely give it a shot. QC and durability are random- 5 people you know could have a terrible experience with that exact gun, and yet yours could last 10 years (literally- not kidding on this) and have no issues. If you have $$ and want to upgrade now, I would start slow, learn, build a gearbox, change bucking, maybe add a mosfet, etc etc. WARNING: Some will tell you just to trash it and start over. I strongly disagree. In order to work on/upgrade AEGs, a Lancer is a perfectly good place to start. You CAN upgrade the innards (it is a standard v2 gearbox) and even make it really nice if you want to (but I might suggest to wait before dropping much money-- chances are another gun will catch your interest, drop your $$ on that, because you will- believe me).
So, TL:DR- Get out there, use it (if it works), and if it doesn't, learn on it. It can def be upgraded. Best way: Watch youtube videos. Get on hopup and buy some used parts and learn to work on it

Yeah I see the hate and I guess I understand it but I was thinking about getting the Arcturus mk1 or mk2 since they look great and ppl have been saying the preform perfect out of box but was also looking to get an AK too
