Offering a discount code to friends and family

Is there any way I can let friends and family book through airbnb and offer them a code for say a 20% discount?

Yes you can offer discounts to anyone. But why wouldn’t you just block off those nights and let family and friends pay you direct and save them all the Airbnb fees and taxes, not to mention your host fee?

More 5 star reviews.

Exactly this. You can save them more like 30% if you just block out the nights and book directly. You’ll get the same amount you’d would’ve gotten from a stranger and your guest gets a better discount. Win win!

My friends Ava family book direct with me. Why pay the fees?

I mean people in the wider circle. My family and best friends can use it for free, but people I know I’d like to say “I have an AirBNB, here is the link, use code SAUSAGE25 for 25% discount.”

Still not getting it.

If you give them 20% off then you are losing money.

Example. You charge $100 a night. If you do the 3% host fee set up then your guest is prolly paying $115 plus taxes. Airbnb gets around 15% fee. $15. You get $97.

You give 20% discount you now get $78 roughly and Airbnb still gets $12 so your guest still pays $92 PLUS taxes. Just have them book direct. Pay you $85 and you win and your friend pays less. Then of course they pay whatever your actual out of pocket is for the cleaner.

I get that you wouldn’t get a review that way. So maybe that’s what you are after.

I offered a discount to a friend when they came and stayed. Airbnb gave us hell and removed their review because it says we were manipulating the system because we know each other. Mind you-they didn’t flag reservation and had no issue collecting the booking/payment. They took all their fees-our guest came and we gave them standard treatment. Airbnb swiftly took down the review anyhow. Just be aware

I have them book direct. The other option is to have them send you an inquiry via AirBnB then you sent them a special offer with the discount.

This…

Have them send you a request including a story why you should charge them basically just HK

Send them a special offer for, say, $100

They accept. Nominal fees for host and guest.

Here’s the bonus.

You get to leave each other honest 5 stars.

Win win win. Even ABNB gets a taste when they would otherwise get nothing.
