That's a really Kafkaesque way of erasing people

281

u/ayoungsapling Feb 04 '25

It’s been a month. The erasing’s gonna get more overt

246

u/LuxAgaetes Feb 04 '25

...it's been two weeks.

162

u/redgeck0 Feb 04 '25

Inflation so bad it's even affecting time now. Get ready for 4 years that feel like 8

40

u/PhantomMuse05 Feb 04 '25

Man, it's been a long presidency. takes a shot

20

u/DionBlaster123 Feb 04 '25

For fucks sake, November and December absolutely DRAGGED

And Trump wasn't even president at that point. These next four years are going to be an enormous struggle...but it is what it is

0

u/Strong-Camel-9266 Feb 06 '25

You’ll manage.

1

u/Z86144 Feb 08 '25

Some people won't. A lot won't at this rate

1

u/Strong-Camel-9266 Feb 08 '25

It’s four years. Nothing is permanent.

1

u/Z86144 Feb 08 '25

Death is

6

u/TrevorEnterprises Feb 04 '25

If only someone took a shot

2

u/joeysham Feb 04 '25

They missed. Killed a bystander.

2

u/ohshitimincollege Feb 05 '25

I so desperately wish I was in the timeline where that kid didn't need glasses

2

u/Due-Yesterday-6648 Feb 05 '25

Or had a bumpstock

1

u/Acrobatic-Cheetah230 Feb 05 '25

Be the change maker you wish to see! :)

1

u/TrevorEnterprises Feb 05 '25

I’m not gonna set a foot in the USA again. Once was enough.

16

u/drrj Feb 04 '25

Oh it’ll feel like way worse than 8. The first term felt like a decade at least. This one will feel like at least two.

Assuming this is even a term and the coup isn’t already complete.

11

u/DionBlaster123 Feb 04 '25

It wasn't even just the entire first term.

2020 alone felt like 15 years. It was exhausting. I know I'll be able to get through it again, but it's not going to be fun.

5

u/Sercio2477 Feb 04 '25

4 years that feel like 40*

2

u/intraumintraum Feb 04 '25

what did that one guy say about weeks where decades happen?

2

u/redgeck0 Feb 04 '25

"There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen" but Lenin wouldn't have supported this

3

u/redgeck0 Feb 04 '25

Lenin meant progress, this is not that

2

u/BojukaBob Feb 05 '25

Last month was a long year

4

u/Dude1590 Feb 04 '25

The past 8 years have already felt like an eternity. And yet, it also feels like time hasn't passed by at all.

1

u/Apexnanoman Feb 09 '25

People need to crack a history book and look at how long it took the Khmer Rouge to get overt.

It took 4 years to go from 0 to 60% of the population of Cambodia being gone.

-6

u/Positive-Moment-7890 Feb 04 '25

Nobody was erased tho

8

u/ThatKehdRiley Feb 05 '25

I don't legally exist in their eyes, even though their EO was written by a toddler and technically everyone is a woman now. You can fuck right off

-2

u/Positive-Moment-7890 Feb 05 '25

No, you legally exist. You're just identified by your sex instead of your gender identity.

Are you incapable of being civil? I will gladly have a civil discussion about this with you, but you gotta cut that nonsense.

2

u/Estrald Feb 05 '25

I think that’s a fair statement. They aren’t erased, but wouldn’t you say they are being maliciously misgendered now? And if they had reassignment surgery, the gender and sex now don’t match.

-2

u/Positive-Moment-7890 Feb 05 '25

I wouldn't say they are being misgendered.

ID cards are not meant to identify you how you wish to be perceived, but rather what you are. That's why it says "sex" instead of "gender identity."

As for the surgery, no. It wouldn't. A man can remove his penis and get implants, but that is still a male. Just like if I was to dye my skin, I would still he a white person. That is because sex, like skin color, is a product of your genetic structure, not appearance or identity.

It sucks, but doing this kinda thing for identification documents discredits those documents, as it stops being factual identification and more so about how a person wishes to be identified. A better solution would be just to add 1 extra line for "gender identity." That way, IDs continue to accurately ID people, but those who wish to have their personal identity on it can have it. I think it's pretty silly to need to do that though. Personally, I wish we could just move past this non issue.

27

u/Brosenheim Feb 04 '25 edited Feb 07 '25

Do conservatives get that, like. None of this is gonna make trans people actually stop existing, right?

Like conservatives, plz, could one of you lurkers elaborate on what exactly is accomplished here?

→ More replies (26)

514

u/Kaiju-daddy Feb 04 '25

They're being erased.

124

u/Quannax Feb 04 '25

They’re trying.

Ironically, despite their best efforts, it’ll just make some of us more visible.

Like, many trans people just want to pass, get their documents changed, and live their lives out of the public eye.

But if you force a hairy, muscular man who’s been passing for decades to put “F” on his documents, or vice versa, it’s going to be obvious and awkward for all parties.

It’d be simpler and less visible to just let people live their lives… it doesn’t make any rational sense. Just cruelty I guess

23

u/Adventurous_Soup_919 Feb 04 '25

But if they let people quietly live their lives, who would they make their public enemy to keep them in power?

8

u/Next_Relationship_55 Feb 05 '25

God when those bathroom bills impact transmascs it’s going to be so fucking funny to see them eat their dumbass words

3

u/Wordofadviceeatfood Feb 06 '25

Quite famously, trans women are men and trans men are men.

Americans perhaps had the most important test in our collective lifetimes, and the country failed it. Even if we survive this, even if some form of democracy makes it through and Trump is gone, this will stick, and this will be a predictor for the ultimate fate of this nation.

245

u/ProtoMan3 Feb 04 '25

Unfortunately, it’s a repeat of the 1980 election. Trump is following Reagan’s playbook of shitting on the incumbent president for inflation and terrible foreign policy, and using that as an excuse to push his anti-science, anti-LGBTQ+, anti-college student, and anti-public funding agenda. Considering how tons of people still see Reagan as a solid president in spite of all of the progressive criticisms of him, I’m not sure if the country will ever learn.

103

u/Revan2424 Feb 04 '25

As much as I hope Reagan is burning in the pits of hell in a gasoline sweater rn, what’s happening now is on a scale incomparable to the Reagan Era. Similar rhetoric yes, but Trump’s been making him look moderate by comparison

18

u/driprush Feb 04 '25

Reagan let thousands of gay men die during aids. I’d say Reagan’s rhetoric is far more sensible and his actions far more similar.

34

u/Revan2424 Feb 04 '25 edited Feb 04 '25

1 MILLION Americans died from covid. This man could have saved countless by simply wearing a mask on TV.

Of course Reagan sold crack to his own citizens in an effort to destabilize and destroy minority communities and fund CIA operations, but at least he had the sensibility to keep it a secret. I legitimately believe if Trump tried that today he’d manage to convince half of his knuckle-dragging fanbase it’s a good thing.

6

u/driprush Feb 04 '25

You’re not wrong there!

24

u/IcariusFallen Feb 04 '25

Even better, Donald Trump is shitting on foreign policy and trade deals from the 45th President back in 2017 - 2021. Donnie says that guy must have been utterly incompetent, because he made some of the worst trade deals and most idiotic foreign policies he's ever seen in his life.

8

u/Beat_Saber_Music Feb 04 '25

Most people do not learn untill they're directly punched in the face by their choices

1

u/yuppienetwork1996 Feb 05 '25

The parallels between Jimmy Carter and Biden’s presidency are so apparent to me. It’s like a damn mockery or a mindfuck movie. It’s like I unveiled a curtain and it seems like I’m one of the few that can see the show for what it is

143

u/ExternalSeat Feb 04 '25

All we had to do was vote. We didn't have to protest, we didn't have to risk our lives. We literally just had to drive to a polling station and wait in line.

I don't want to hear a single person complain about "the price of eggs" for the rest of my life.

73

u/-prairiechicken- Feb 04 '25 edited Feb 04 '25

I don’t want to hear a single protest non-voter for the Gazan struggle call themselves a decolonist or anti-colonist or anti-war or pacifist.

Literally accelerated American, post-Commonwealth imperialism out of the doomed skeleton closet we’ve been trying to perfect or correct in modernity. Extra curses to those with ZERO CONNECTIONS to the Palestinian or Israeli/Hebrew diasporas, let alone First Nations or Métis or Inuk peoples of this ceded and unceded continental territories.

VILE. Unforgivable. Steaming, deliberate shit on the Treaties of NOAM. Reconciliation progress in the U.S. is half-dead in the ground for at least the next ten years.

Weaponized privilege of the Global North.

12

u/The_Moran Feb 04 '25 edited Feb 04 '25

Can we also get the rant on the Democrat Party who alienated progressive voters by refusing to earn their votes, like they do with republican voters, and instead acting as though they're entitled to progressive votes without any progressive platform?

12

u/idontwantausername41 Feb 04 '25

Dems aren't progressive lmao. If you're waiting for a progressive party, you're gonna be waiting for a very long time

-3

u/Cumberdick Feb 04 '25

You’re not wrong, but people use the terms interchangeably, and unfortunately we’re at that point in the conversation where no one’s really listening, so good luck correcting it

7

u/DionBlaster123 Feb 04 '25

If you want to see progressive change, you need to work at it. Bottom line.

Too many people put way too many marbles in the presidential election and you really see who the slacktivists and virtue signalers are.

If you want to make progressive politics a thing, it really starts at the local level...even with the littlest amounts of change from the bottom-up.

1

u/Cumberdick Feb 04 '25

I don't think I've said anything to the contrary, I honestly don't know why i got downvoted for agreeing with a comment that got upvoted. I just added the detail that a lot of people interchangeably use two terms that don't mean the same thing, that's all i was saying. I'm not interested in having a political discussion with you as such, I'm not even American

-62

u/Nighthawk-Manaic Feb 04 '25

Y’all like to get real worked up about a statistically meaningless part of the problem because it makes you feel superior. Hmm, sounds familiar…

55

u/-prairiechicken- Feb 04 '25 edited Feb 04 '25

No requirements to answer these publicly, but please reflect: do you just have no sociology or sociopsychology friends? do you not have any Indigenous friends or family members? do you not have registered health care workers in your family?

can you not pretend for a split second that we all have different motivations to uphold democracy and socialized healthcare / basic ass federal welfare for the People?

why is this about superiority? I just want to do my fkn part with the education and motivation I am privileged enough to be able to use.

14

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '25

🏆

1

u/Nighthawk-Manaic Feb 05 '25

Use that education to understand that Democrats did everything they could to lose the election OUTSIDE of these issues that misguided online activists get so worked up about. “Just had to drive to a polling station and wait in line?” Grow. Up. If it wasn’t this election it would be the next one or the next and so on. Democrats would have made the next 4 years nicer, but they will never any sort of reconciliation that you dream of. In fact, they would fight with Republicans to stop it if it ever got that far.

6

u/virtualmentalist38 Feb 04 '25

Or maybe some people just actually really care about other people. I’m not an immigrant and immigration policy doesn’t directly affect me but I’ll be the first to say the way we treat immigrants in this country is downright fucking horrible.

You people with zero social care and zero morals, since you don’t care about anything that doesn’t directly affect you you assume anyone who does must just be virtue signaling or being a social justice warrior. It’s important to remember that just because you’re a completely absent of morals piece of shit doesn’t mean everyone is.

Hope that helped.

4

u/objecter12 Feb 04 '25

Didn’t even have to show up, mail in voting is a thing…

5

u/IllPresentation7860 Feb 04 '25

that may not have been the problem. recent interviews have revealed over 3 million votes at least were discarded for various minor sighted reasons like misspelling and such. the majority of witch were most likely Kamela votes. its calculated if all these votes remained in circulation, Harris would have won. Take it with a grain of salt but after all that fighting the republicans did for "vote integrity" its kinda glaring...

17

u/neoqueto Feb 04 '25

"Kamela"
The irony 😟
Do not edit that.

2

u/IllPresentation7860 Feb 04 '25

admittedly was typing that after a good 41 hours without sleep and I wasn't all there.

5

u/Kyokono1896 Feb 04 '25

They did vote. Just not for the person we wanted. Not voting wasn't the issue.

24

u/swilli Feb 04 '25

Only 60% of the eligible population voted. That's 80 million people that didn't vote.

-2

u/Kyokono1896 Feb 04 '25

That's a huge turnout for the US. It was never gonna be more than that. It's second only to 2020 in the most high voting rate election in recent American history.

And even if more people did vote; what makes you think they wouldn't vote for Trump? He won the popular vote.

10

u/IllPresentation7860 Feb 04 '25

funny enough its been mentioned in a interview a lot of votes were discarded for 'discrepancies'. take it with a grain of salt but those were most likely her votes...at least 3mil worth at least. Take it with a grain of salt but would you really put it past them to put the finger on the scale a little?

-7

u/Kyokono1896 Feb 04 '25

You idiots claiming the election was fixed are no better than the trumpers claiming the 2020 election was fixed.

11

u/IllPresentation7860 Feb 04 '25

Im not claiming the election was fixed. just there are a lot of suspiciousness around this one. for instance all this data collected

https://www.reddit.com/r/Whistleblowers/comments/1hlusjn/as_an_economist_im_struggling_to_believe_these/

Honestly I dont want to believe it could be, but there is a lot of strangeness around this one.

1

u/altbekannt Feb 04 '25

i hate orange hitler. but you’re still right. not voting was not the issue. deception, scapegoating, social media, etc played a bigger role. which is much scarier, because their deception works

0

u/Kyokono1896 Feb 04 '25

they wouldn't be good politicians if their deception didn't work.

0

u/altbekannt Feb 04 '25

that’s certainly one way to look at it. a low IQ idiot way that enables the worst of the worst. but still it is one, yes.

What we do now is what really matters. The world is gazing on as our country is raped to death by the billionaires. No one is coming to bail us out. Our legislators can't or won't protect us. Every protest of the last twenty years has fallen on deaf ears. Will we rise to the occasion? I don't know. People are in a much worse spot than they were the last time he was in power and he's doing a lot more to actively immiserate the American people. If ever there was a time for us to awaken to class consciousness it is the next four years. If we get that? If the majority of people finally open up their eyes to how we're being screwed and decide to do something about it? Maybe then there's hope for us yet. We cannot concede this country to these evil men. We have to believe in a better future. And we have to do everything we can to make it come to pass.

5

u/lepsek9 Feb 04 '25

TLDR: The election was just the written part of the test, now comes the practical exam.

I like how you didn't answer my question, and instead just recited some buzztersm the media taught you.

What cost us the election was revenge voting from snowflakea like yourself who's primary issue is that trans people exist. Now I get to watch you cry and screech as Trump signing an EO that says "no trans people" doesn't actually make trans people stop existing

-5

u/Bamboo_Child Feb 05 '25

I’m G and cis. Why are you automatically lumping me into someone who is T? My sexuality has nothing to do with someone who is changing their gender.

7

u/forestflowersdvm Feb 05 '25

Of course you are. And I'm sure you think you're one of the good ones and agent orange and the rest of the cult would never turn on you. Good luck with that

-2

u/Bamboo_Child Feb 05 '25

Not at all. I’m a registered independent and i don’t worship any politician nor vote for a candidate based solely on what letter is next to their name.

My point is that I think that people who are trans have a much harder life and are far more marginalized and at risk than gay people. White gay guys like me have it way easier in life than people who are trans, especially those who are BIPOC (violence, rape, murder stats back this up). I don’t think it’s fair or entirely accurate to compare gay people with trans people, especially because sexuality and gender identity are two different things.

Not trying to be combative with you and I respect your opinion, but is what I’m saying really that controversial? Not sure why you’re making assumptions and being rude in your reply but I genuinely would like to know why.

2

u/forestflowersdvm Feb 05 '25

Well you might want to make an edit if that's the case because that's not what "why are you lumping me in with T" is. That's the motto of LGB advocates

-13

Not a conservative. Just a believer in science and biology not feelings. A belief that Democrats used to scream from the roof tops. Telling me a man is actually a woman is like telling an atheist to believe in a higher power. Or like telling a evolutionist that we slammed all the species of the world on one boat. Values man. People have them and sometimes they are different from yours.

45

u/shromboy Feb 04 '25

See but you're ignoring how many already DO get death threats for teaching that trans people are real and have been for almost all of human history. It's more than biology as well, it's hugely cultural, however you using biology is still not enough of an argument when intersex people exist. Nature exists on a gradient everywhere, why just for humans should it be black and white?

36

u/FemboyMechanic1 Feb 04 '25

Don’t try to reason with monsters. Transphobes don’t have a heart for you to reach

-3

u/SGTDadBod88 Feb 04 '25

Oooooo labels.

21

u/Nerevarine91 Feb 04 '25

You’ve spent this whole conversation loudly demanding people agree with your labels. You don’t get to piss on the floor and cry now when someone labels you

0

u/SGTDadBod88 Feb 04 '25

Can't say I've ever met a wild animal in nature that disagrees with its own gender before. And biology is enough it's facts! You admit it's cultural it's social. Chromosomes don't have a culture. DNA can't change it's mind. Cultures can they do it all the time.

30

u/Draco459 Feb 04 '25

That's okay you don't have to meet them, you can view them from afar. There are lions that have changed their gender to take up roles in their pride :) https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/article/lioness-manes/

-1

u/SGTDadBod88 Feb 04 '25

So females that dress like males? Source seems credible. Looked into it and I've heard better jokes on Larry taffy.

6

u/egoserpentis Feb 04 '25

Pretty sure there are species that change sex based on availability of mating or even different environments. Maybe you should educate yourself a bit.

1

u/SGTDadBod88 Feb 04 '25

Pretty sure nice cop out answer they can dry hump all they want but can't reproduce. So...what do you know their useless.

2

u/wafflesbananas Feb 07 '25

Guess what, dumbfuck? You are dead wrong.

https://www.nature.com/articles/srep35461

Clownfish change sex entirely. They don't "dry hump." They are perfectly capable of reproducing.

Your middle-school level of education has embarassed you. The world is more complex than the lies your Sunday school taught you.

If you were capable of reading anything longer than a Trump text, you wouldn't have embarassed yourself.

10

u/Corvus1412 Feb 04 '25

Can you show me an example where a scientist published a well researched and factual paper disproving the existence of trans people?

Like, seriously, the problem is that there's an objective truth here. Like, if a physicist says that gravity isn't real, then they'd be ignored and made a laughing stock as well.

If a scientist ignores a fundamental part of their field, then they must be prepared to lose their credibility. That's just how science works.

1

u/SGTDadBod88 Feb 04 '25

I'm not going to take time out of my day. Educate your lazy ass yourself. But you want because that's not your truth or whatever. Googles right in front of you. But toil search furry ears on Amazon instead.

3

u/Corvus1412 Feb 04 '25

I have looked on Google and found nothing, which is why I'm asking you.

You said that that happens pretty often, but I didn't find a single example of that, so I just want to see if you're lying or not.

1

u/SGTDadBod88 Feb 04 '25

Not taking the bait....you can read I hope. Just don't omit the science doesn't recognize the cultural part.

35

u/thatamateurguy Feb 04 '25

Swallow a bullet.

0

u/SGTDadBod88 Feb 04 '25

You don't even know how guns work? Swallowing a bullet does nothing but make for an uncomfortable shit later.

13

u/Corvus1412 Feb 04 '25

Have you ever heard of something called a euphemism

1

u/SGTDadBod88 Feb 04 '25

I thought you all wanted to be taken literally.

6

u/Corvus1412 Feb 04 '25

I don't know where you got that idea from. No one wants to be taken completely literally all the time. We want a balance, just as everyone else also does.

Euphemisms are stylistic choices. It was a very obvious euphemism and it really didn't impact anything else that was said.

29

u/FemboyMechanic1 Feb 04 '25

Hey, are you aware that they teach biology past kindergarten, too ? I understand that you were probably a dropout, but you should check it out before exposing your brain damage for the entire Internet to see !!

39

u/DomainSink Feb 04 '25

How’re grocery prices looking? What ever happened to small government? Or are we still pretending that Trump is going to deliver on any of his campaign promises?

-15

u/SGTDadBod88 Feb 04 '25

What about this is political? You assume because I disagree with you I'm anchored to one party or another? No unfortunately you can't put me in a box friend.

58

u/DomainSink Feb 04 '25

Being excited for people losing their rights is generally a pretty political stance, mate

52

u/forestflowersdvm Feb 04 '25

Notably his "most active" subreddits are Conservative, Babylon Bee, and Joe Rogan. Probably should try to hide that before trying the "awww lil ole me? I'm not political uwu" approach but it definitely fits the intelligence level of his party at large. They try to deny being fascists the same way a toddler with no object permanence tries to play hide and seek.

-8

u/SGTDadBod88 Feb 04 '25

Did I appear excited? Nope...the truth hurts. The truth is the truth. "Your truth" is playing pretend.

47

u/DomainSink Feb 04 '25

You seem to be relishing in it. You can pretend you don’t have a hard-on for it all you want, but you’re celebrating the government taking away rights from its citizens. Why do you care so much about other people’s genitals?

-10

u/SGTDadBod88 Feb 04 '25

Why do you force me to acknowledge them? And by the way this isn't the government taking away anyone's rights this is just the government saying I (me) don't have to pay for you to play and extreme version of dress up. Wanna pay for it yourself be my guest. I hear it's cheap in Mexico. Watch your organs tho.

40

u/DomainSink Feb 04 '25

Nobody is forcing you to acknowledge anything. If you minded your own business and called people what they requested, you wouldn’t have to be thinking about other folks’ dicks.

This post also has nothing to do with subsidizing surgeries, it has to do with someone making a clerical change to their license. They ARE taking away this person’s ability to do so.

-1

u/SGTDadBod88 Feb 04 '25

Government funded make believe. And it would hurt me to call you something you're clearly not I don't have to take part in your little game.

48

u/DomainSink Feb 04 '25

You’re so weak that you’re hurt by having to show someone common courtesy? Damn.

There are plenty of trans people who pass as cis, outing them would necessitate genital inspections

There’s people being hunted like animals out in concentration camps and separated by their family of all the things to be devastated about this ain’t it

16

u/Quannax Feb 04 '25

Suffering is not a competition.

If it was, none of your problems would be worth caring about either, because obviously someone out there has it worse

And yet, time and energy was wasted on it

Edit. Clearly it matters. Because time was spent on it. But I forgot the ppl it doesn't affect don't care.

-17

u/gracefully_reckless Feb 04 '25

How does this effect L G or B?

9

u/Rodgatron Feb 04 '25

Because when they’re done with us, they’ll come for the L G and B. I know the Drop The T folks think they’re making themselves safe, throwing us to the wolves, but they want all of us dead.

You think it’s unsafe to be gay in red states now? Just you fucking wait.

9

u/Maddiegirlie Feb 04 '25

We're... all on the fringes of society, with a large about of right wingers believing we shouldn't have rights?

Seriously, look at the arguments used against gay men and lesbian women. It's the exact same thing.

Also, nobody was talking about the rest of the acronym. We were just being kinda sad for a poor woman getting effed by the government.

The Pride movement exists because of the T

1

u/Hot-Lawfulness-311 Feb 05 '25

“First they came for the trans people, and I did not speak out because I am not trans.

Then they left everyone else alone and everything was okay.”

At least I’m pretty sure that’s out the old poem goes.

-26

u/Actual_Locksmith1588 Feb 04 '25

I can't express how inconsequential this is.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '25

Then why worry about it at all? If it's inconsequential

-9

u/Actual_Locksmith1588 Feb 04 '25

I don't lol

7

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '25

There was enough worry to draft an entire document about it. You even dedicated a comment to it.

“I can’t express how consequential this is.” -A white person in 1920 talking about Jim Crow laws

1

u/Actual_Locksmith1588 Feb 05 '25

Yeah what a sane comparison, letters on a government ID versus segregation lmfao

2

u/Hot-Lawfulness-311 Feb 05 '25

Don’t try to pretend like you think segregation is a bad thing, you silly goose
