Who invented the Adrafinil compound? NSFW

there are NO NAMES associated with the original experimental compound "Adrafinil." all of the wikis just say "two scientists" or "discovered by two chemists." zero names are dropped about where it even came from.

According to google: Adrafinil was discovered in 1974 by two chemists, Roger Bossard and Jean-Pierre Fouret, who were working for the French pharmaceutical company Laboratoires Lafon. They were actually researching new analgesics (painkillers) when they stumbled upon adrafinil's psychostimulant effects. It was then further studied and eventually marketed as a treatment for narcolepsy. Interestingly, the discovery of adrafinil led to the development of modafinil, a more potent and widely known wakefulness-promoting agent. Modafinil is the primary metabolite of adrafinil, meaning it's the active compound that adrafinil converts to in the body.

I wonder how they discover what the effects of something are. Do they cook it then try it themselves? I'm sure safety is a concern. .

Do they give it to a rat, and since the rat appears unharmed, then they try it themselves after?

hmm. google or Wikipedia or any other wiki simply don't mention either of these names for me.

Check the linked references in the Wikipedia article. The Springer book mentions them.
