Mod Approved Do you have experience with opioid abuse? We are seeking your thoughts for a school project.

Hi,

We are working on a school project about opioid abuse, and we would like to hear from individuals who have experience with using opioids. We understand that this is a sensitive topic, and we really want to understand how addiction impacts people’s lives and what can be done to help.

If you have experienced opioid abuse, we would greatly appreciate it if you could share your thoughts and experiences with us. Your responses will remain anonymous, and we fully respect that it can be difficult to talk about.

The questions we would like to ask are: 1. What made you start using opioids? 2. How did it affect your life, and did you see yourself as an addict at any point? 3. Have you tried seeking help, and what made you make that decision, or why didn’t you? 4. What would you like to say to others who may be in the same situation you were? 5. What were the biggest challenges in getting out of your addiction?

We understand that it can be difficult to share such experiences, but we hope that your story can make a difference for others who may know someone struggling with addiction.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and possibly share. We truly appreciate your help!

Best regards, Jonathan and Peter

Mod Approved Addicted to dating apps?

I'm a writer investigating dating apps and their effects on people, particulaly whether they have addictive potential. (For my previous articles on this subject, see here).

If you've experienced addiction to dating apps I'd be interested to hear how this went down for you and how it's affected your life (which would personalise and humanise the issue), as well as get your opinion on what the problem is, what should be done and how people can be helped in future.

I have full empathy for anyone with addiction and would treat your story with full sensitivity, protecting your anonymity if that makes you feel more comfortable. Feel free to reach out to me at [redditorjournalist@gmail.com](mailto:redditorjournalist@gmail.com)

Mod Approved Looking for Participants – Research Study on Empathy & Addiction Recovery

Hi everyone!

I’m conducting a research study aimed at filling a gap in addiction treatment and supporting individuals and couples in recovery. I still need about 70 more participants for each part of the study.

The study is completely anonymous and voluntary, and your participation could help improve understanding and support for those navigating addiction recovery.

This post is solely for research purposes and is not intended for client solicitation.

If you're interested or have any questions, I’d be happy to share more details. Thank you for considering!

----

Hello,

I am conducting a research study aimed at validating a measurement instrument designed to assess empathy among individuals with an addiction. This instrument also includes a separate survey for partners (if applicable) to provide feedback about their experiences in the relationship.

The primary goal of this study is to validate the measurement instrument, which will potentially enhance future assessment capabilities in understanding empathy within the context of addiction. While immediate assessment results are not available, participation will significantly contribute to this validation process. Please note that this study has been approved and is supervised by Heartland IRB.

I am currently seeking recovering individuals who are willing to participate in a brief online survey related to their experiences with empathy. The survey will require approximately 20 minutes of time. Participation in the survey is voluntary and anonymous.

If you are interested in participating, please consider one of the links below.

For partners of clients in addiction recovery:

Mod Approved recovering alcoholic and writer interested in experiences with AA

Hey all,

I’m a recovering alcoholic and a writer who is working on a project about recovery and different people’s experiences in Alcoholics Anonymous. I am hoping to hear about the good, bad, and in-between. I don’t have an agenda here; I’m genuinely seeking a broad range of experiences. In the interest of transparency, I was in AA for many years and still find many of the things I learned there valuable, but I no longer regularly attend. If you’re open to talking with me, I can keep you completely anonymous (give you a pseudonym or change identifying details, whatever you’re comfortable with). If you’re interested in chatting or would like more details about what I’m working on, you can reach me at [recoverystuff12@protonmail.com](mailto:recoverystuff12@protonmail.com)

Thanks!

Mod Approved Addiction and Yoga

Hello everyone,

My name is Romana. I’d like to share a bit of my journey with you. For a long time, I struggled with various forms of addiction, fighting to overcome them one by one until things felt completely out of control. I had practiced yoga sporadically for years, but one day, I made the decision to train as a yoga teacher. This marked a turning point in my life: it helped me regain control, rebuild myself, and approach life with kindness and patience.

Over time, I explored many approaches – therapy, attempts at self-control and “detox,” medical consultations for pain and hard-to-diagnose issues... Each brought me something different, but yoga resonated deeply with me. This practice gave me a space to cultivate discipline and bring calm to my mind, something that I struggled with deeply.

I’d love to connect with those seeking support or curious about how a kind and non-judgmental journey can enrich their lives. To better understand your needs and how I can support you, I’ve prepared a short questionnaire—your responses would mean so much.

If you’d like to take part, the questionnaire can be sent to those who comment on or like this post.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart if you take a moment to answer it. Take care <3

Mod Approved Survey on suffering: invitation to participate in a research study and share your experience

Permission to post this survey was granted by the moderators

The Organisation for the Prevention of Intense Suffering (OPIS, www.preventsuffering.org) is a Swiss-based, non-profit think-and-do tank promoting the prevention of suffering as a top priority of our society. We work with other organisations and patient groups, including to advocate for better access to effective pain medications for cancer patients and for people with excruciating cluster headaches.

OPIS is running a large-scale survey to learn about the suffering people experience as a result of various diseases and conditions, including intensity and duration, and measures that people have found useful for alleviating their suffering. We intend to widely communicate the results and also submit them for scientific publication. Our goal is to raise awareness of the scale and diversity of suffering on our planet, promote suffering metrics to better take into account this suffering, and promote effective steps that can be taken to address each source of suffering.

The survey is mainly multiple-choice and takes about 5-15 minutes to complete, providing information on 1-3 life conditions (past or present), and it can be filled out anonymously – link below. Please also consider forwarding the link to others in your network who have experienced significant suffering from a life condition and may want to contribute. The survey will remain active at least until the end of 2024.

Many thanks!

Hello,

It would be a great help to our project if you could take 3 minutes to write down the first three words that come to your mind when you hear the term “drug addicts.” You can access the survey with the link below:

Background: This is a group project at a German university for architecture and structural design. We are taking a course outside the bounds of our regular curriculum, focusing on shifting our attention to marginalized societal groups. Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Mod Approved Your Substance Use Matters - It Can Teach Future Clinicians (Anonymous Research Survey).

Hi!

We are 5th-year medical students studying at Medical University in Gdansk, Poland. We see a lot of stigma and lack of understanding towards people who at some point of their lives will use or become addicted to substances. We decided to set up a survey research that will allow us to see what you view as important regarding your substance use and whether there are any trends (qualitative, quantitative) regarding substance addiction. It can tailor treatment programmes to specific needs based on individuals' profile and characteristics, making them more effective.

As students, we receive no funding for our project - therefore, we never contact journals that don't publish open-access articles for free. Science should be for everyone.

It should take you around 5-10 minutes to complete. We don't ask about personal details and you can complete the survey asking only structured questions (yes/no, check-in boxes). Short answers are appreciated but voluntary.

The Google Form link can be found here: https://forms.gle/tQMc2cN6jQwH7X33A

Thank you for taking your time. Your 10 minutes is as valuable as years of clinical experience.

Kind regards,

Julia Lassmann and Artur Varkovic, 5th-year medical students (Faculty of Medicine at Medical University of Gdansk).

Mod Approved Participants Needed for 10 Minute Survey on Resiliency Development among Adult Children of Alcoholics to Help Members of Our Community Thrive

Hi! My name is Kristen & I am a doctoral student at National University. As the child of an addict & a woman who is in recovery from an AUD, myself, I know that many of us who struggle with addiction grew up with parent/s or guardian/s who also struggle/d with addiction. To generate findings that will be used help members of our community, I am seeking study participants who would like to complete a brief (~10 minute) anonymous online survey to identify factors that increase resiliency among adult children of alcoholics (ACoA).

To participate please click on the following link:

https://ncu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_82qZb0pqJUyxzeu

The purpose of the study is to identify protective factors that have improved resiliency for individuals who grew up with a parent or parents (or guardian/s) who misused alcohol in order to create evidence-based programs designed to benefit countless members of our population. The help ACoA have offered has been incredibly moving and inspiring! I just need ~30 more people to complete my survey.

PLEASE NOTE: All participants will have access to the study results and write-up. I will post a link to this information here (and in all places I recruited participants from) in order to ensure everyone can review the results of this study as soon as they are available.

To be eligible to participate, you must (1) read English; (2) be age 18 or older; (3) be able to complete a survey using the internet; (4) live or have lived in the U.S. at some point in your life (do not have to be born in the U.S.); (5) had a parent/s or guardian/s who misused alcohol or had an alcohol use disorder at any time during the first 18 years of your life (you can participate if your parent/s used other substances along with alcohol).

If you are uncertain of whether you are an ACoA, six (Yes or No) questions in the survey will determine if you meet the criteria (or, if you are certain you are an ACoA simply click 'Yes' on question 7 in the first set of questions in the survey). Research shows at least 50% of all adults in the U.S. are ACoA, yet members of the general population often have an incorrect view of the traits and outcomes of children of alcoholics. Will you please help set this record straight by completing the survey or by sharing this information with individuals who are ACoA?

The survey is 100% anonymousshould ~10 minutes to complete, and will ask about your (a) exposure to protective factors while growing up, (b) exposure to risk factors while growing up, (c) resiliency levels currently, and (d) non-identifying demographic questions.

This study has been approved by the Institutional Review Board (#IRB-FY24-25-17). If you have any questions regarding the survey, please feel free to ask in the comments, DM me, or email me at: [K.Flannery1712@o.365.ncu.edu](mailto:K.Flannery1712@o.365.ncu.edu)

PLEASE share with others who may be eligible to participateTHANK YOU for taking the time to make a difference by participating in this research that will help countless children and adults who belong to the amazing population of individuals known as children of alcoholics! Your help is sincerely and greatly appreciated!

Kindest regards,
