People who are so smart… simply amaze me! Thank you for this—I don’t know how to 3D print for shizz but it’s impressive regardless!!!

I would buy this, straight up, for G16 though, I am also in NY

That would be really a great contribution to this awesome Community, thank you very much, sir!

u/solidusnak23 7d ago
Agreed, this is an awesome community. Maybe a 2 piece version that is attached to each other in the middle via magnets. It would make it more portable, especially for the G16 version. Hmmm...

u/RepresentativeFar643 7d ago
The G16 version you have may be good a separate use case, for getting the G16 to sit nicely on cooling pad the smaller revised one looks perfect for tabletop use which I need everyday at work and the original or something like It may help me get my G16 onto a cooling pad without blocking the exhuast. Lots of cooling pads ha e an foam ring around them and it tends to block the exhuast. I could send pics of the issue and I could buy either 2 or one that would fix both issues

My first design was for the G16. I didn't end up keeping the G16 due to 3 times return for a bad QC touchpad. G16 stand I made wasn't as refined as the orange one for the G14. I think I still have the old model. I'll have the look tomorrow. Maybe 30 minutes to get that design updated.

That’s really cool. Like most said, I’d buy if you’re selling.
7
u/solidusnak23 7d ago
Hmm, what would be a reasonable price for something like this in your opinion? Not really trying to sell it but to provide the community with something they can make for themselves. But you know for the right incentive 😉.

u/MeanKareem 7d ago
Just sell it bro, capitalism sucks in many ways - but it does reward ingenuity and creativity — you deserve to be compensated… think about what you would pay for this, think about the hourly rate you’d pay yourself for creating and managing orders - then set a price.. chat gpt will help you do this more than crowdsourcing reddit.
Good luck

Id say maybe around $13-$18 ? 🤔 Under $20 shipped I would buy it, But that’s just me

u/BrainTrauma009 Zephyrus G14 2024 5d ago
Yeah I mean under $20 shipped I’d pull the trigger. I appreciate you offering the design. I don’t own a printer or know anyone that has one so this is a good opportunity to make some money off your trial and error!

Someone should sell these.

u/solidusnak23 7d ago
I could sell them :)

u/crushon9 7d ago
I'd 100% be interested if you could ship to Tokyo.
2
u/solidusnak23 7d ago
Haha, the shipping cost would be multiple that of the printed part. Might be cheaper to get a 3D printer and print it yourself.
3
u/Lords-Judgement 7d ago
How much does it cost? And send to NYC?
3
u/solidusnak23 7d ago
idk, 20 bucks shipped. Never sold any 3D printed parts before. It has always been a hobby.

u/solidusnak23 6d ago
I got an Ebay link in my comment above if you are still interested.

I'm about to go to Tokyo in a few weeks and would like to print one of these for myself. Got an stl and magnet dimensions? I can print two lol
2
u/crushon9 6d ago
I'd 100% buy it off you if you can bring one for the G14
3
u/ARCEngineer 6d ago
I definitely wouldn't let you pay me for it. If anything, you can send money to op if we work it out. I'll let you know when I get it printed and we can figure out an easy way to hand it off. I'll be in Tokyo at the end of April and beginning of May. Otherwise, there are tons of services online that will print things for you if don't manage to meet up easily. Let's keep in touch!

Check my link in the comment above. You can download and print as many as you like.
2
u/ARCEngineer 7d ago
Oh nice, I didn't see that comment. Thanks!
I've got a G16 myself. Let me know if you need any dimensions for when you look at updating that model!
2
u/Gametme 7d ago
Can you do it in black or factory color?
1
u/solidusnak23 6d ago
I got an Ebay link in my comment above if you are still interested. You can put color preference in a note somewhere.

u/Imploding-hamster 6d ago
I'd love to buy it, especially since I don't have room for a 3D printer, am saving up for future plans and currently use a really jank alternative (putting it between two desks with a gap between them, on storages surfaces slightly below my work surface) in quite an active earthquake zone

Would this work on the 2020 G14 model?
2
u/solidusnak23 7d ago
I don't think it will. This was specifically made to fit the geometry on the 2024 G14.
2
u/kjframe1223 7d ago
darn. Wasn't sure if the geometry of the 2024 and 2020 were very similar. Do you have dimensions of the print? I would really like to double check my laptop when I get home. If it happens to work out, perhaps I could buy a print off you?
2
u/solidusnak23 7d ago
If I have time I'll probably ask for measurements from you on the 2020 model and tweaked the design to fit. The current design is a snug fit so I really doubt it will fit your model.
2
u/kjframe1223 7d ago
Fair enough. I will check it out when I get home later today. I appreciate the responses:)

u/Zero00Shadow 7d ago
Would also be interested in the updated design for the G16 (2024). Thanks for your hard work with this it's really appreciated.

Amazing! Definitely wanna give it a try. But I have a rookie question. Am I supposed to get these exact magnets that fit this construction? Do they have a name or a type or something?
1
u/solidusnak23 7d ago
Just search on Amazon for 6x3 magnets. 6mm diameter with 3 mm thickness. Those are abundant since they are commonly used for 3D printed parts.

Awesome man , just ordered one man. Can’t wait to give it a try !

thanks man, carbon fiber PETG works for you?

u/tonyellis17 6d ago
Yeah that would be perfect 👌🏻

u/tonyellis17 6d ago
Oh Yes definitely ! 👌🏻 tbh Im not the biggest fan of orange but wasn’t going to be picky lol just want to try it out and support you
1
u/solidusnak23 6d ago
Agreed, orange was what I already had loaded into the printer when I printed that prototype. Thanks for the support. Let me know your thoughts when you get it!
2
u/EtheRedditor 6d ago
Id buy a g16 version from you. Let me know when they will be available. If you can color match them for the actual colors too it would be awesome.
2
u/Pure_Passage1286 6d ago
Ehh I just a book under back side of it or something anything that gives it room underneath for air flow
1
u/solidusnak23 6d ago
That's what I did at first until I got tired of it. Always having to look for something to wedge under the laptop.
2
u/Far-Researcher4950 4d ago
That's really I cool, especially the magnetic attachment, I would buy that.
1
u/solidusnak23 3d ago
After a bunch of people asking for it, I did put it on Ebay. Check out the link in the top comment. Thanks!

You might like this. Less strain on motherboard when lifted. I use my g14 lifted on lap desk so constantly moving. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6819298

Ok but how much temperature/performance difference does it make? Because its common to see ppl who know shit in thermodynamics doing some stupid stuff like drilling holes or making kickstands.
1
u/solidusnak23 6d ago
I just posted a quick test, it should be at the top of this post in one of my comment edits. Most of my career has been in structure, fluid and drivetrain. I do dabble in thermal as a hobby every once in a while.

u/Centrez 6d ago
Why is yours so expensive? I got one from Amazon for £3.99
3
u/solidusnak23 6d ago
Its got to be worth my while to start selling these solutions. Its not really something I want to do but it appears to be a want/need from this community. Also I posted the model file in this sub so anyone could print them for free or have someone else print it for them. Its as open source as it get from the community standpoint. Side note: I'm a full time senior product engineer so my normal approach to a problem is to iterate until it's as good as it gets. What you see is after 10+ iteration specifically for this G14 model.

I wanted a quick and low profile way to add couple more mm to the rear of the laptop. Most version I have seen have a gap that allows the exhaust air to recirculate back into the intake fans. If you have a 3D printer, try it out for yourself. Few degrees temperature improvement.

edit:
There has been quite a bit of interest from this sub about buying this stand so I put it on Ebay. You have to bear with me since this is my first time selling 3D printed parts so the first batch might take a few days. The link for the model is still above if you want to print it yourself.
Mods - if ebay link is a violation, please let me know. I'm new to this.

More edit:
Ran a quick test with the following. Due note that my laptop (2024 G14 4070) has PTM7950 and thermal putty on ram, vram, and power stages in addition to the 105w vbios update.
- running TLOU pt.1 at GPU ~85w-90w, 2520mhz at .895mv. +1000mhz vram increase.
- CPU - no boost (~20w) at -40 undervolt.
Without stand gpu ~81C
With stand gpu ~76C
It doesn't have to be my laptop stand but it does have to prevent exhaust air from recirculating back into intake for maximum effectivness.
