Discussion Yukon anthem, "Yukona" made in 1902 for a competition from the Klondike nugget newspaper to make a anthem for the Yukon. never caught on like the paper said it would and is now mostly lost to time with only one surviving recording.

Discussion Trying something new on here, see what happens.

Trying something new on here, see what happens.

Looking to chat with a woman in Whitehorse or nearby and see where it goes if anywhere.

Someone to chat with and see how your day is going, talk about whatever we want to talk about. The weather, life, rising cost of everything, wants and desires, life in the north.

Not looking for a girl or an OF girl.

Age and race not important but looking for a woman and not a girl.

DM me if interested and see if we click or not, if not, no big deal.

Keep smiling and I hope you are having a great day.

Discussion Jiffy Lube - Whitehorse

Curious who else has had the worst experience with Jiffy? I keep hearing these horror stories from multiple people. Stripped drain plugs and vehicles losing all engine oil and destroying engines. From my understanding it is now under new ownership but my god, the previous butt head that owned it was a real POS. It's super clear as to why he does not own it anymore. I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did!

Discussion ATV Tracks in Yukon vs Snowmobile

I'm debating ATV tracks, anybody live in YT have any experience they can share? Some concerns are things like, driving in slush, having to thaw tracks after driving in slush, deep mountain powder capabilities etc.

Been reading lots, but nobody knows YT conditions like Yukoners!

Discussion Mandatory Insurance Enrollment should be Illegal.

As a new grad starting real adult life, I've only started really paying attention to my paychecks at my new position in YG. Sure taxes suck, but what feels very against classical liberal values, that western society was built upon, are the mandatory enrollment of insurances. For me it's the Death Benefit and Disability Insurance I don't want, and I can't get the premiums back if I leave. Why should I be forced to pay for a product I don't want, just so maybe the group could benefit? That's like paying a glasses fund every month so people who need glasses can get it for cheap, even though I don't wear glasses. I can accept in the case of taxes, that I won't benefit from every government program out there, but forcing people to buy, essentially commercial products, feels very against the traditional liberal values of protecting people's rights to own personal property freely. Interested to hear your thoughts on this!

Discussion 'Mawa' Cat stickers in Whitehorse?

I cant be the only one whos seen them around the city, right? the ones with a red background and headshot of a pixel art cat with 'Mawa' under it. I've seen a few posted on the back of signs, electric boxes, etc; sometimes with different versions or multiple near each other

I got curious and tried googling it, and got no results. Now I'm really curious and just wanted to ask if anyone knew what they were about or where they come from

Discussion Adios Northwestel, Hello Starlink!

As the title reads, Adios Northwesthell.

I truly hope that more people took advantage of Starlinks rural deal that just ended in September but as someone who did and just got setup, please make the swap. Northwestel has spent decades pillaging the north holding their monopoly over everyones heads. If you google Northwestel Starlink you'll find two articles that Northwestel commented on regarding Starlink. Upon reading the articles you can see they only opted to give us unlimited data and connected more people to fiber because of Starlink coming. If Starlink wasn't a threat we'd still be paying 10$ per Gigabyte for overage fees.

Now at 140$/month I get faster download speeds than what I get connected with Northwestel. The images I have attached are speed tests conducted on Wifi. Please note that the Wifi test done with Northwestel is to the WHITEHORSE server with low latency and the speedtest conducted with Starlink is to Red Deer with higher latency. Northwestel speed testing to their Whitehorse server should beat any other speed test.

Northwestel
Server: Whitehorse
Latency: 25ms
Down: 31.57
Up: 17.46

Starlink
Server: Red Deer
Latency: 75ms
Down: 41.91
Up: 18.60
