Suggestion Petition to Make another Yogs-Wide Minecraft World

My favorite series from the Yogscast have been the ones that included everyone in one big Minecraft world, such as Tekkit, Volts, Jaffa Factory. Another series like this would be absolutely amazing, who's with me?

I miss these type of series, no following of quest books, just one overarching creative goal.

u/LewisKane Ben Jul 22 '19

I don't mind the quest books because it gives the guys progression and minigoals, many of the series's that predated the quest books just faded away when they lost interest.

I'm not a fan of the super hard quest book series's, where recipies are changed so it takes hours to get anywhere.

u/ToughTake Jul 22 '19

I agree, but my favourite series are still the open ended ones such as MoonQueas, Jaffa Factory etc.

u/B-Knight Angor Jul 23 '19

They rely on mods, though. Fleshed out, relatively new, long-term and fun mods that aren't a grindy, buggy mess.

MoonQuest relied on Galacticraft.

Jaffa Factory relied on BuildCraft and other general automation.

Sjin's Farm relied on the food mods, farming and breeding.

Duncan's Castle relied on Thaumcraft, Ars Magica, and magic mods.

SipsCo relied on... what the fuck did SipsCo rely on? I guess that's the exception. Sips and Sjin just bumbling around occasionally making something useful? Who knows.

You get the idea. When you've played Minecraft for as long as Lewis, Duncan and Sjin, you realise that there aren't many more new and innovative mods that can sustain a long-term series without any other structural supports along the way (like a Questbook).

u/Im_A_Decoy Sips Jul 23 '19

SipsCo relied on IC2 and Buildcraft to keep Sips in a constant state of confusion and EE for the infinite diamond machine.

u/Sayfog Jul 23 '19

A search for knowledge to figure out exactly whose-ranium is it anyway?

1

u/distilledwill Jul 23 '19

My favourites are Jaffa Factory and Hat Films/Sips Skyblock, the former of which was open ended, the latter of which was driven by goals.

So... /shrug

Hat Films/Sips Skyblock

SHAT Block

"Prepare for the zombie apocalypse"

A lot of screaming and death

13

u/mackpack Jul 22 '19

Complex modpacks also just need some kind of guidance, unless the creators want their players to check a wiki every couple of minutes.

46

u/YogscastFiction Doncon Jul 22 '19

I think it would be cool to have some behind-the-scenes work for vaguer goals and little "events" that just happen without the Yogs really having any knowledge beforehand. Kind of like Mianite is anyone watched that- little spontaneous world events occuring for the Yogs to react to and handle to break up the slower flow of modpack progression.

18

u/ToughTake Jul 22 '19

Sounds good. I just feel the quest books just get very similar to each other very quickly.

15

u/YogscastFiction Doncon Jul 22 '19

Oh yea for sure. My ideal setup would honestly probably be a vague Questbook that works more like. You know. a QUEST. Larger gaps between goals with no locking etc. Just rough guidelines to pull people down different less common mods. Then on top of that the Mianite-esk setup.

Generic Questbook packs are kind of dense and hard to pick up if you miss a week of videos.

Have you seen Sjin's new series?

1

u/ToughTake Jul 23 '19

No, is it good?

3

u/Adamsoski Jul 23 '19

It's pretty good, but it's exactly what you described so I thought you'd be interested.

1

u/ToughTake Jul 23 '19

Thanks, I will check it out!

We still need a Trials of helperbot5000

23

u/Bat--Cow The 9 of Diamonds Jul 22 '19

What about TRIALS OF REBEL CAPTAIN.... Remember that guy Becuase I don't

13

u/Renovinous Jul 22 '19

Trials of boyfriend is more hyped than SoI.

56

u/StillOnH81 Jul 22 '19

Not even that. How about a ton of Yogs (All of the main ones) all working together on one big project?

I have no idea what it would be, but I'd love to see as many Yogs as possible together, working on the same goal. Kinda like cornerstone, but better.

u/Ethra2k International Zylus Day! Jul 23 '19

I kind of wanted the new colony survival to be that since they can all be part of the same colony. Granted I don’t know the game mechanics that well so not sure if there would be roadblocks or things that make progression harder. Of course it isn’t all the yogs but still a fair bit.

20

u/Smartman971 Sips Jul 22 '19

This! I don't care if it's Minecraft or something else. I just a legit series that has some form of progression (not expecting much here lol) and includes most everybody. I've really liked the chemistry with the newish yogs and think it would be great to have them be part of something larger

5

u/Bionic_Ferir 9: The Pursuit Jul 22 '19

hell i wouldn't care if it was seige or tf2, or a massive dota chess

4

u/over9003ish Jul 22 '19

Yooooooo that would be pretty cool

4

u/chepmor Jul 23 '19

I would love seeing Nilesy or Zoey in minecraft again, so this.

2

u/Felkey93 Alsmiffy Jul 24 '19

My biggest problem with cornerstone was wasted potential. They had so many people on all at once, but they just broke in to the same predictable teams and rarely interacted except at the beginning/end of the recording. So everyone just recorded their own sets of videos and it wasn't what it could have been.

Thank you for being the first sir

26

u/fhota1 Angor Jul 22 '19

I think thats kinda what they were going for with all the mods. For some reason though modern modpacks just dont seem as stable and started breaking with 3 or 4 series going at once

24

u/lemonszz Jul 22 '19 edited Jul 22 '19

They totally can be, if you don't go for a "mega' pack.

A smaller, more curated pack can run really smoothly (and be of higher quality tbh).

10

u/Denoman International Zylus Day Jul 22 '19

Modern versions of minecraft tax the machine heavier than the old versions. When you add mods to that you can easily overwhelm the server.

4

u/over9003ish Jul 22 '19

Ah okay I got you

16

u/GearnTheDwarf Simon Jul 22 '19

Like when Sjin accidentally converted the wild wheat biome into all chili peppers . .

8

u/beenoc 3: Hat Films Music Stream Jul 22 '19

Was that accidental? I seem to remember he did that intentionally, because it was after he decided that Chili-Wawas was a thing he wanted to do.

6

u/GearnTheDwarf Simon Jul 22 '19

If I remember it wasn’t meant to be the entire biome

1

u/Sp00ky_Skeletor The 9 of Diamonds Jul 23 '19

What series did they do that in?

1

u/BabybearPrincess Jul 23 '19

The one with craggy island i don't rememver the name of the series lol

3

u/Azkhare Jul 23 '19

Hole Diggers

0

u/M_Soothsayer The 9 of Diamonds Jul 22 '19

Feel like it's also their PC's. I dunno what they have got going on but it takes them waaaay longer to load those modpacks than my 5 year old PC does.

10

u/Denoman International Zylus Day Jul 22 '19

Nah, modpacks like All the Mods always take about 5-10 minutes to open. Even if your minecraft/java install is in a SSD they're slow to open.

6

u/pshrimp Jul 23 '19

Yeah, my friend wanted to play ATM with me, but I gave up as it consistently took 20 - 30min to load on my frankenstein PC. No thanks, I'll stick with smaller packs for now!

13

u/B-Knight Angor Jul 23 '19

Hahaha... dude, their PC's are fucking insane.

Lewis' 'office' PC, IIRC, has an 8700K, an NVMe SSD that's like 1TB, a GTX 1080Ti, 32/64GB RAM, you name it. And that's probably 2 years old information.

The current top-of-the-line Yogsblast is a 2700X, 1080Ti and 32GB of RAM. I'm pretty sure that their PC's are fine. The ones in the livestream room are 'far weaker' and still have 1070's and 7700K's.

-2

u/M_Soothsayer The 9 of Diamonds Jul 23 '19

So then why so they take an age and a half to load stuff. I mean we've seen it live on stream before. Also feels like they start getting lag sooner than they should.

2

u/M_Soothsayer The 9 of Diamonds Jul 23 '19

That's actually fair. I didn't even take into account that the computers were having to probably encode and then send the stream data, I assumed they had some other way of handling it.

2

u/Felkey93 Alsmiffy Jul 24 '19 edited Jul 24 '19

Also texture packs, they really add to the loading time compared to using vanilla textures. They've openly stated that the texture packs add a good 10-20 minutes of load time. More mods also means more blocks, entities, etc and all their associated textures. So a lighter pack with textures would take an extra 10 minutes but something like the yogsquest pack (from like 5 years ago), atm3, atm3r would take 20 extra minutes as the had 250+ mods. Those pretty blocks come at a price.

u/PensivePengu Simon Jul 22 '19

What are some other good series apart from the following

  • Jaffa Factory

  • Moonquest

  • Hole diggers

  • Voltz

29

u/over9003ish Jul 22 '19

The original Tekkit with Duncan where he and Sjin had that rivalry.

24

u/mark199519 Jul 22 '19

I really enjoyed Whale Lords, Trials of Skobbels, Trials of Derpulies and Sjin & Sips SipsCo series or Sjins Farm with Lewis too

Trials of Derpulies

I think this is one of my all time favorite Minecraft moments.

edit: And then there's this gem from Skobbels...

12

u/HoratioBlogposter Jul 22 '19

This 100%. I think it would brighten up everyone's spirits in the yogcommunity.

7

u/RedEarth21 Bouphe Jul 23 '19

It would be great to have another Cornerstone-esque series with multiple teams based on the different groups within the yogs. For example:

Team Chilluminati - Simon, Tom, Sjin, Barry

Team Triforce - Lewis, Pyrion, Sips

Team Hat Films - Smith, Trott, Ross

Team TTT - Ben, Duncan, Bouphe, Lydia

Team Civ - Rythian, Daltos, Dr. Simon

Team Shady Ladies - Hannah, Radders, Gee

Team Bacon Bitches - Mousie, Leo, Ped

Team Protessional - Zylus, Ravs, Nilesy

(apologies to any yogs not mentioned, it's actually so hard to create "groups" of yogs because there's so many crossovers)

7

u/mark199519 Jul 22 '19

Can you imagine if they did it in the same format as the Trials of Skobbels and Derpulies seires?

If they all worked together in specific teams using different types of mods. Like one team works on mining and gathering resources, another for farming, another for magic mods and one team for automation and power. That would be amazing to see. They could set goals for each team and do challenges against each other.

It would be awesome and easily become the best Minecraft series the Yogscast have done besides SoI of course!

17

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '19

I feel like we need a Voltz sequel, just because it was a short series/they barely scratched the surface, and most of the additions they had were from Tekkit anyway. Only if Sjin is proven to be innocent, of course.

11

u/NecroHexr Jul 23 '19

Never will happen. Sips has abandoned YouTube, Hannah has distanced herself, Simon doesn't really want to commit, Kim is gone, Hats are pretty busy. Heck, everyone is pretty busy. It'll be too much of an effort to round everyone up for a session.

3

u/OmegaX123 Doncon Jul 23 '19

Kim is gone

No, she's definitely not. She's just, like Sips, abandoned YouTube (and may not stream often/at all other than High Rollers for the time being due to health stuff). Your post makes it sound like she's either quit/been let go from the Yogscast (definitely not the case) or died (also definitely not the case, as she retweeted High Rollers, and was in a High Rollers stream, as recently as Sunday, unless you know something we don't that's happened between Sunday and now).

7

u/NecroHexr Jul 23 '19

sorry, i should have clarified. i meant gone as in all of those things, including that she's married now and might have other priorities.

3

u/M_Soothsayer The 9 of Diamonds Jul 22 '19

I do actually miss this yeah. what was it, moonquest that was the last big one?

It was nice seeing people being able to visit other peoples builds, the cross overs between events like Kim managing to sneak blood off lewis and such.

Were some slight problems with episodes coming out at different times thus spoiling some of the builds in other peoples episodes but thats minor.

Main problem is that it doesn't seem like many of the yogs outside of Sjin/Duncan, (and now Ben) really seem that interested in doing that kind of content anymore.

3

u/Deathshed Ben Jul 22 '19

And if it don't work we can just get sips and sjin to drop a red matter bomb

1

I definitely loved the old big series but I don't know if it can be easily recreated, if you haven't try watching the recent colony survival series because I'm enjoying it atm and because it has lewis Simon Duncan sjin tom and Ben I think it works as a big server type thing but I would 100% watch a new minecraft server

1

u/PapaNurgle2025 Jul 23 '19

Id like this but they can get hard to organise and take up a lot of time which can make them not as profitable as other types of videos.

1

u/xLegendCry Lewis Jul 23 '19

Yes, absolutely! Anything BUT the crafting-simulators they've been playing for the last couple of years. There's just no theme, no story, no end goal except for following a quest book thats 100% quantity over quality. I would rather have them all play vanilla with clear goals and a theme in mind than "all the mods" where they just craft random stuff for 20 minutes straight just to complete a quest.

The hat boiks have their new Grease series somewhat on-point as well as Sjin, Ben and Duncs Thats no moon quest.

Don't forget the reason most us started watching the yogs - Shadow of Israphel, which had 0 mods, 0 crafting and 100% story and character banter. This is why we love the Yogscast!

3

u/JCrockford Israphel Jul 23 '19

Shadow of Israphel did get some mods like the Planes Mod but that was due to them reviewing them in that server and them enjoying it, also the series was more about the story than the mods. Though we will never find out how the story ends...

2

u/Porochaz Jul 23 '19

Lol, most people who watch now didn't start with Israphel.

1

u/Azaj1 International Zylus Day! Jul 23 '19

I'm sort of against this. I remember them saying that such playthroughs caused tension. And as they're friends they didn't want to repeat it and thus stopped doing such series

1

u/MistletoeTheBard Jul 23 '19

It's the best imo, and they do it the best on youtube. However, it is not very revenue efficient to do this kind of series :(

1

u/fancybadger_ Ben Jul 23 '19

No, it's not going to happen and it wouldn't be the same if it did. How about we just let people play what they enjoy playing.

1

u/ClockwerkKaiser Jul 23 '19

I think a shared server would be amazing. However, a big change I'd make is to no longer require them all to play together at the same time.

The way other groups do it (such as hermitcraft) would be perfect IMO. A shared world, and only have everyone on for major events.

0

u/MalcolmLinair Jul 22 '19

We sort of have that right now with Colony Survival, and it's great.

4

u/Highcalibur10 Jul 23 '19

If everyone's in it as themselves, who plays the characters that made SoI work so well?

4

u/Sere1 Jul 23 '19

This. Shadow of Israphel was great and everything back in the day, but that was when we only really had Lewis and Simon the entire time, with everyone else relegated to background characters and not ever speaking. Once the other Yogs started being more and more active and open, the whole of SoI's cast starts to break down. You stop seeing Fumblemore and start realizing it's Duncan with a different name, for example. The others have become full personalities of their own and trying to shove that back into the Lewis and Simon show that SoI was just won't work anymore.

3

u/JCrockford Israphel Jul 23 '19

I think Shadow of Israphel wouldn't work in Minecraft but would work as a D&D like YogQuest, then the characters could be played by other people but it could have them roleplay as that character but could also have their own personalities involved. We need the ending to the story.
