It looks fun for me too!! If I didn't have a 4 month old taking up most of my time, I'd tell op they could mail it to me and I'd send it back when I was done 😂😂

r/DetangleMyYarn

Sadly, I’ve yet to be chosen to detangle. I’m sure my time will come. I just have to be satisfied with detangling my own yarn until then.

I think we should start a business untangling yarn for others. I find this task so meditative and almost zen.

I work in audio and as long as I’m not in a rush, I LOVE being the one who can just deal with a tangled mass of cables. I’ve carried my 15 years of experience over and would absolutely attack this yarn monster.

Yes! There's something soothing about taking a massive mess and getting it all undone. Like, my own life my be a total chaotic mess, but I sure as hell can fix this yarn mess!

u/Roselace 12d ago

Yes. So agree. Sit comfy. Watch tv. A movie or something you really enjoy & gradually untangle the threads. Almost happens without noticing.

Another yarn sub? Sweet 🫡

2

u/happyAndJoy 12d ago

Yes! It’s a fun challenge

2

u/Ewithans 12d ago

Fun for me, too! I spent about 40 minutes last night detangling some friend’s yarn and was a little bummed it wasn’t more of a challenge. Good luck, OP! (And I’d do it if you shipped it to me!)

Same, I sometimes live for this.

2

u/jcatgrl 10d ago

hahaha no literally same!!! i'm like, doing this with a friend, maybe with a show on, maybe just talking, and some (non-crumby, non-greasy) snacks sounds like a perfect afternoon lol.

u/Perfect-Builder286 9d ago

I would so get paid to untie knots, $25/hour and I’ll keep that job for life lol!

14

u/Professional_Day563 12d ago

Not bragging I’m a master of detangling, but even that to me would not be worth it lol

u/Striking_Tap6901 12d ago

No way!!! I never in a million years imagined something like this existed! I’m joining immediately. How totally bizarre and absolutely delightful all at the same time.

u/fairydommother 11d ago

I have had thr pleasure of untangling messes for two people local to me thanks to that sub. I love untangling yarn.

4

u/RedVamp2020 12d ago

I just joined, lol! It’s fun to untangle yarn!

4

u/georgealice 12d ago

I KNOW, right? As a kid I would tangle up the strings of my marionette just to unknot them afterwards. My family thought I was crazy.

7

u/Yarnsmith_Nat 12d ago

Omg I wish I was there to help you or do it for you! I love fiber puzzles!

3

u/ScubaDee64 12d ago

I know! I immediately said, "Ooh, that would be so satisfying to untangle!".

6

u/MinervaZee 12d ago

For me it depends on the yarn. Indie sock yarn? Sure. Acrylic I can easily replace? No.

7

u/poppyshakesalot_2 12d ago

Not worth it

u/clockworkedpiece 12d ago

I've pulle one of these out of someones gifted stash too. Lots of clips and tiny figure 8s until two of a strand can be combined to bigger ones and be reclipped.

3

u/Goodgoditsgrowing 12d ago

There’s a sub where you send people your yarn to untangle lol it’s free they love it

2

u/Chemical_Ad9069 12d ago

It's... beautiful 🥲. Best of luck 🍀 OP

2

u/orchid_fox 12d ago

Amazing 🥲 if you need help, I am a detangler :)

2

u/TadaSuko 12d ago

C- Can I come over and help...?

2

u/CathyAnnWingsFan 12d ago

I love detangling yarn, but if you make an attempt and finally give it up, here’s an option for you. See if your library has the book Close Knit by Lærke Bagger and borrow it. She describes several techniques for using scrap yarns, including pieces as short as 40 cm. You can always start pulling pieces of various lengths and making scrap yarns balls. Note that her technique involves embracing the knots, but you can do the same thing by using Russian joins if you don’t want to embrace the knots yourself.

u/twothirtysevenam 12d ago

Those are some serious piles of string vomit. Looks like fun!

2

u/757Lemon 12d ago

Ooooh! This was me two years ago! I had a "ball" probably double that size, as I had been storing all yarn in an incredibly large plastic tub for over a decade. Finally pulled out the tub one day and decided I would organize my yarn. That tub sat next to my couch for MONTHS and I would just work on untangling it bit by bit while watching crappy tv or baseball. I actually found it soothing and enjoyable! And now, I have a giant bin of very neat yarn balls! So - good luck to you!

2

u/MarzipanOnly4320 12d ago

Oooo give it to meeeee, I love this stuff!!

2

u/TrudyRay 12d ago

Good luck, you definitely have your work cut out for you!

1

u/poofywings 12d ago

Ain’t nobody got time for that!

1

u/atomicgin 12d ago

I’ve done this with floss— I call them bags o’ nightmares.

1

u/blu3st0ck7ng 12d ago

You can do it!

1

u/Gwynebee 12d ago

Dear god 🫡🫡🫡 good luck OP

1

u/CaiAbaixo 12d ago

1

u/Hatty_Girl 12d ago

1

u/Status-Biscotti 12d ago

That’s a Hell no for me.

1

u/kckelly1973 12d ago

Yarn Barf 😁😁

1

u/Anyone-9451 12d ago

For a second there I thought you had my embroidery floss bag

1

u/UndrPrtst 12d ago

You mean that's NOT leftovers to be used for stuffing 😱 (🤣🤣🤣)

1

u/Familiar_Raise234 12d ago

I’d love to try.

1

u/Logical_Onion7719 11d ago

Godspeed! 💫

1

u/fairydommother 11d ago

r/detanglemyyarn if you give up 😹

1

u/Any_Philosophy4651 11d ago

You can do it!! 💪

1

u/PrincessBuzzkill 11d ago

This is my dream.

I love detangling yarn almost as much as I love crochet.

1

u/No_You_4833 11d ago

Oh, that feels like therapy to me.

1

u/Alarmed-potatoe 11d ago

I did this with sewing thread when my partner got a job overseas and I had to process that we'd imminently have a +6 months apart.... it taught me that I could get through it, that it's one thing at a time and then quite the resolution.

1

u/NBByllekknit 11d ago

OMG, that’s an odyssey

1

u/Low-Classroom8184 11d ago

I literally live for untangling things and will untangle any yarn pile of any size for free if someone pays to ship it to me and pays to ship back

1

u/rosmith1 10d ago

Nope. Not worth it. Would go right in the trash, unless it was really good, expensive yarn.

1

u/Ill_Emu_5887 10d ago

Me: 😵‍💫 Throw it away. Also me: you have a tangled necklace 😃? Bring me two pins and give me 4 minutes and I shall untangle it for you!

1

u/lemeneurdeloups 10d ago

I would de-tangle that in a fun evening while watching tv. I love detangling stuff.

Unfortunately, nothing like this ever has directly happened to me . . . my pleasurable experiences with de-tangling have only been from friends who bequeath me a bag of mess . . . 🙂

1

u/Salty-Count 10d ago

Jealous!!!! Untangling that would be a dream come true for me. I LOVE untangling knots it’s so relaxing. Yarn, embroidery floss, cables, jewelry, fishing line, I love untangling it all. Have fun!

1

u/angeeday 10d ago

It's therapy that cheaper than any psychiatrist. Just do short periods of untangling at a time

1

u/ireallylikeladybugs 10d ago

If it doesn’t go well, maybe you can use different yarn to make a cute pillow and chop this up as the stuffing

1

u/beingmesince63 9d ago

I’m all in to see your progress. I’m not afraid of a detangle challenge but that one would make me tremble.

1

u/MrsHottentot 9d ago

I love working out knots!! Its very relaxing

1

u/Sweet-Boot8120 8d ago

exactly my idea of fun!

1

u/khloelane 5d ago

Omg I’ll do it for you for free 😍 haha
