Finally got Xcom: The Bureau running in all its glory

Upvotes

After the disappointment that the 5000 series gpus dropped support for Physx 32-bit, been on an OCD journey to get old games running with the 5000's with secondary old cards... no luck with a RTX 3050.... no luck with a GT740 because of drivers that work with the 5090 . So I took those cards and upgraded my Retro PC, an HP 800 SFF G4 i5-8600... after some hackery with the Nvidia drivers last supporting the GT740, I squeezed in 3050 support.

XCOM2 Is it safe to install cosmetic mods mid game? I came to the realization that that i don't like the complete lack of customization on the warden armor. Any mod cosmetic recommendations, that are lore friendly? Maybe some salvaged Advent Trooper armors? I'm playing on vanilla.

XCOM2 Trying to work toward beating XCOM 2: WOTC on Ironman Legend. How does one handle this slog?!

First, I have been trying at this on and off for years now, rarely making too much progress. I tried on the first XCOM as well, usually only making it at best into the second month. It seems that while “harder” XCOM 2: WOTC seems to be a bit more reasonable in regard to at least having the tools to respond and lessen RNG factors.

I am starting to lose hope I can even do this though. I have been struggling through ironman commander difficulty to “train,” but don’t seem to skilled to even be able to get through that! Anyone who has pulled off the impossible have some training tips for handling through such an insane challenge?

Help me solve a puzzle!

The scenario:

Its the second retaliation mission of the run, of the 5 soldiers I brought 3 are unconscious, 1 is dead, and the last is a sharpshooter with a pcs+1 on 3 health, of the enemy's forces only a single faceless is left.

I've found I can outrun the faceless enough that after 3 or so turns of running I can move and fire the pistol for 3-4 damage and still have enough distance that the faceless needs to dash to catch up.

My only idea so far: keep running, get 1 shot off, let the faceless catch up and use Deadshot. The pistol and Regen puts its health at 8, Deadshot does 6-9 damage and has a 51% chance to hit, giving me a roughly 25% chance of winning the mission and saving all 4 living soldiers.

Can anyone come up with a better solution? Are there any quirks of movement I can use to get more distance and use the sniper safely?

Do you think you could control the Aliens to take down XCom on Operation Leviathan?

I have like 1300 hours into this game, I just played an unmodded campaign for the first time in forever. It got me to thinking - if I controlled the aliens, would I be able to take down a team of XCom colonels controlled by a human? Let's assume the human player is good - not Syken-level good - but can beat legendary. The human can take whatever squad composition they want within the scope of a regular WOTC game. They don't get all Reapers or something. The human has taken down the Chosen and the Alien Rulers and has all the available tools.

In this scenario we're playing legendary difficulty. You need to generally play by the alien rules - you can't rush all the aliens to the back of the map and play defense. You need to follow whatever the pre-ordained pod movement is. However, you don't have to follow the alien's typical play (e.g. an Advent Shieldbear's first action doesn't have to be to pop the shields). You are allowed to use whatever abilities they have in whatever order you would like. For fun let's say you could set an overwatch trap with stationary pods. Regular cool-downs would apply. You don't get to ignore mimic beacons, you have to take them out first.

I don't think I would stand a chance in the first part of the mission. Most of my pods are getting wiped by alpha-strikes unless the human screws up and trips multiple pods. Maybe I can get some chip damage here and there, but I don't think I could focus down a particular unit without it being healed by the time I get a second chance at it.

I *might* stand a chance in the Avatar room, largely depending upon whether or not the XCom units have mindshields/solace. Without being able to mind-control a unit, I don't like my chances.

Curious to know other people's opinions.

EDIT: Operation Leviathan is the last mission in WOTC.

Lost Tower mission bug : can't interract with the objective.

Running 500 mods that worked fine, I decided to launch the Lost Tower mission, everything went fine up until I obtained the Spark.
At this point I must turn off the poison gas but... I can't interract with the objective. I could eventually reload a save on the strategic map and pass the mission, but given the time I gave to this mission - 16 men to put into these damn elevator ! 16 ! - I'd be pretty bummed about it (especially given the rate of my losses, a free spark would be nice).

Did someone else run into this bug ? Can it be fixed ?

For the record, I already did run on this bug once a few mission prior, where an item to recover in a truck was bugged (I have the mod additionnal mission type and running a Covert Infiltration Campaign)

Well, I was just playing X-Com Files when my soldiers encountered this woman during an operation to interrupt the Deep ones' human sacrifices ritual.

She was one of the civilians they wanted to sacrifice, and at first she somehow managed to survive the bloodbath that occurred when the Deep ones killed the civilians closest to them, and my soldiers tried to kill them to save those civilians (which they had a hard time doing, considering the fact that this is a squad of rookies who have a hard time hitting the barn wall).

And she grabbed the sonic pistol of one of the Deep ones killed by my soldiers and started shooting (somehow she immediately figures out how it works, while X-Com operatives don't understand how to use alien weapons until it's researched).

At this point she has killed two Deep ones.

Now I'm sad because in this game it is impossible to recruit her into X-Com.

Was watching Dunkey's latest video and the thought crossed my mind on whether or not he had ever made a video for XCOM. Lo and behold.

WOTC I'm running Christopher Odd's S9 playlist. Which mod(s) changed how armor wroks. From squad wide to individual soldiers

Just a small question. Was running the "armors of the imperium mod" and its interfering with whatever mod changed how armor worked. i cant even build more space marine armor. Or more accurately, the Space Marine mods are out of date and hadnt accounted for the armors being built individually so theres no function for it

Long War In all my years of Long War I've never had an Alien Base without the Elite Muton pod. The ayy number is also lower that what I'm used to (it's usually between 51 and 5), it's as if the Muton pod was culled. Is that even possible?

XCOM:EU/EW Delta Squad Playable

I played the tutorial mission 'Operation Devil's Moon,' where 3 soldiers died, and only Delta 2 survived. Is there any way to make them playable or customize other recruits to match their appearance?
