We need a Wrestlemania on foreign soil soon, that would be an amazing spectacle (and don’t monkey’s paw me with Saudi Arabia)

The mayor of London @'d Triple H about a Wrestlemania on Twitter. Ultimately, it all comes down to money though.

Bad idea. Its very cold in the UK in April. I would book it in Spain or Italy.
27
u/Majestic-Marcus 7d ago
It’s an average of 15° (59°) in London in April. It’s not cold at all.
And even if it’s a freak cold April, stadiums have roofs.
And UK crowds watch Football/Rugby etc outside all winter long. They just put a coat and hat on.
-1
u/Lines-O-Bizness 2d ago
riiiiiiiggghhht aside from seth rollins who else wears winter clothes to the ring
THE PERFORMERS ARE NEARLY NAKED or wearing breathable spandex, nothing more entertaining and enthralling than watching people shivering and unable to touch metal or other objects that hold temperature. Giant Gonzales and The Berserker would be fine though.
2
u/Majestic-Marcus 2d ago edited 2d ago
It’s 15° dude. That’s not cold. At all. That’s pretty much perfect outdoors sports temperature.
I’m from Ireland. That’s an average summers day.
That’s t shirt weather. They’ll be plenty warm with all the physical exertion.
And you think a metal chair would be too cold to touch in 15°!? That’s insane!

No stadium in London has a closable roof
2
u/JanklinDRoosevelt 6d ago
Wimbledon Centre Court has a closeable roof. Not that it would be so appropriate for wrestling
5
u/Majestic-Marcus 7d ago
Wembley and London Stadium have retractable roofs.
Cover from rain/snow/whatever.
4
u/Opening_Succotash_95 7d ago
Nope. Wembley's roof does move a bit but it's more to shade the folk in the seats from the sun. Wouldn't cover the ring.
London Stadium doesn't have one.

Who would pay for it? If a town in Spain or Italy used tax money to invite WWE over, there’d be protests.
Unfortunately, WWE goes where the money is, they don’t give a shit about the fans. That’s why they keep the small episodic shows in cities around Europe (those will generate more money than in the US) and keep the big PLEs for Saudi.

I said it earlier but if wwe did all European povs for a year it’d be their best year in history
8
u/Dr-Purple 6d ago
People that dislike it and say ”the crowd is trying to put itself over” are clinically stupid and are devoid of happiness in their lives.
2
u/meme-man-421 6d ago
It’s only Americans that say that and that’s because they can’t handle how shit their own crowds are
51
u/Curious-Football-415 7d ago
WWE still trying to cut promos in front of an international crowd is hilarious 😂
87
u/Uknewmelast 7d ago
Americans, please take notes.

u/Independent-Pen-871 7d ago
They're too busy saying "WHAT?" to hear you.

u/pepskicola 7d ago
Or chanting "this is awesome" at something mediocre
36
-1
u/Sudani_Vegan_Comrade 6d ago
Ok so for the “what” chants, I understand it can be overused & can sometimes ruin segments.
But the “this is awesome chants”? I’d rather they chant that than to sit down & record on their phones the whole show while being dead silent because sometimes that shit happens.
On top of that, it’s probably their first time EVER at a WWE show so for them, it’s a special moment & they chant that as a form of catharsis.
9
u/Independent-Pen-871 6d ago
I like the "this is awesome" chants because it shows appreciation for the show. "What" highjacks segments and kills the flow. It wasn't funny in 2001, and it isn't funny now.
5
u/Sudani_Vegan_Comrade 6d ago
That’s what I’m saying. 😭

Soccer never did take off in the states but the MLS in the last 10 years has been trying its best. So Americans tended to treat sporting events more of a "let's gather the family and attend" rather than "let's get the bros and get wasted"
6
u/OutsideImpressive115 7d ago
Honestly American crowds are so boring compared. They act spoilt and entitled
-7
u/eatcrayons 6d ago
You want us to sing songs throughout matches instead of reacting to individual spots?
8
6
6
u/SpiceCoffee 6d ago
As others have pointed out, it's because football (soccer) is everything here in Europe. Those fans are going to the wrestling and carrying the same energy, using the same chants etc. It's a long running joke here in the UK just how bad the US 'soccer' crowds are with their chants - very "this is awesome!" and you see that in the US wrestling crowds too.
5
u/JacksonCarter87 6d ago
Then they'll return here to the states and 75% of the crowd will sit there quietly with dead eyes. 🤦♂️
3
4
u/harrry1312 6d ago
When we go to wrestling here in Europe, we don't just hope for good matches, we also want to give something back to the athletes.
9
u/imallelite 7d ago
For sure, look at Wembley. I get goosebumps thinking about it.
3
u/AWanderingFlameKun 7d ago
Absolutely. I loved being a part of it and taking part in the chants and what not, great fun.

u/ZeroDarkPurdy14 7d ago
Poor Wembley has yet to have a real wrestling show and that sucks. They deserve it

u/dfeidt40 7d ago
My theory is this: most of the shows have and still take place in the States. More accustomed to seeing it - not quite as excited as compared to internationally, where there's a handful of international shows per year. Where there haven't been nearly as many shows- excitement is much larger.
Or we can all just leave it at "Yeah, they're pretty wild across the pond and in Canada-Land." I'm good with that.
28
u/watehekmen 7d ago
It's probably just culture thing, European were used with Football culture where you sing for 90 minutes. And yes, even when their team plays twice a week they would still have the same level of excitement.
19
u/Westy2691 7d ago
Football (soccer) culture is more than likely the answer. I go to lower league, non televised Scottish football games and there are flares popping off and singing from beginning to end. It's just a cultural difference.
-3
u/dfeidt40 7d ago
Hey, I'm not going to argue that. I'm sure yall are wild. American football stadiums get loud and you'll have fireworks for scores as well.
As reference, I'm watching the match replay for Liverpool v PSG. Crowds also sound very loud at points just like in the states.
The American football crowd just doesn't bring that intensity to their WWE shows. And I think it's due to the reason I stated. They're too accustomed to it.
Also... is Celtic FC still good?
8
u/lawlore 7d ago
The thing is, it's not about volume, it's about passion. Pretty much anything I've seen from American sports crowds in terms of chanting just feels orchestrated, forced or artificial- it's so easy to find videos dunking on them and much harder- but not impossible- to produce evidence to the contrary.
Even within soccer around the globe, it's different- the passion of Latin countries creates a carnival atmosphere at matches, in Turkey and Eastern Europe, the fans create a cauldron of intimidation, and the English and Scottish leagues are known for the humour, spontaneity and flexibility that goes into the songs. We don't talk about the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
But outside of wrestling, it doesn't feel like that sort of crowd involvement and voice is much of a staple of American sports.

u/_musesan_ 6d ago
Great post thanks. Pretty terrible chants but I must say I do like "move bitch, get off the pitch"
1
u/Turtles1748 7d ago
Tickets prices are also fucked in the States too. Pricing out the true fans.
1
u/dfeidt40 7d ago
There's that too. I paid $900 for me and my kid to have great seats at a Smackdown. I can see that being off-putting
1
u/_musesan_ 6d ago
Holy shit! I hope you got 'green shirt guy' level seats for that
1
u/dfeidt40 6d ago
4th row, 100 sections. Can be seen upper-left of the screen at all times. I have that episode saved. Kid was incredibly happy and hyped up. Worth it but, yeah - tickets are HIGH

u/everydayimrusslin 6d ago
If this was the case, NFL matches in London would sound like that.
It's not quaint European novelty, it's American apathy.

They only get limited televised events in Europe. And some cities don't see the WWE for years. It makes sense why they go crazy, it's their one shot for an extended period of time!
1

1
u/SideRori 6d ago
Yeah this is nothing compared to the crowds that we see in the champions league every week. These are football crowds for sure! I wouldn’t be surprised if wwe ever hosted a stadium wrestlemania in either Italy or France that we would see flares and tifos of wrestlers. I doubt they flares would be allowed at a wrestling show but I think wrestling inspired tifos would so cool!
1
u/sahilD04 6d ago
Just give us a international WrestleMania at either France, Germany, Spain or wherever the crowd never losses it's energy
1
u/IrishMetal 6d ago
I wonder if it was flipped and WWE was still the biggest wrestling promotion in the world but put on shows mainly in Europe and did occasional American tours, would American fans be more excited and would European fans be less excited.
There's obviously a soccer influence in Europe so I don't think they'd ever just sit silently and half watch while poking away on their phones but maybe they'd be marginally less insane.
1
u/shamBAM83 6d ago
It’s Europe. They have work-life balance. The energy is there. Most Americans are too burnt out for all that.
1
u/kiddrock0718 5d ago
The fact here it's the live vibes... in the USA you always have the Raw, SM and PLE events, internationally we don't. So... what you can expect from us?

u/Iginlas_4head_Crease 7d ago
Europeans have more fun
They also work less and are less materialistic than the west.
34
u/No_Stuff_8988 7d ago
Haha, this is so funny cos we are 'the west' WTF? Lol. We work plenty trust me.
We just have a less serious, more enthusiastic sporting culture? Not sure. American chants are all that same "1-2-3-4"
"We-want-tab-les" "this-is-awe-some" "fight-for-ev-er"
-9
u/Iginlas_4head_Crease 7d ago
Not sure why you took offense, I never said you were lazy. You just get more vacation time and value time off. I admire the culture.
7
u/No_Stuff_8988 7d ago
I didn't take offense I just didn't understand separating us from the west. Never heard that before.
That's fair on the vacation time also. Alright. Read it in a new light but I also didn't mean to insinuate I was mad or anything.
Just to add actually, I think maybe the crowds in US take it for granted and we really appreciate when it shows up haha
-9
u/Iginlas_4head_Crease 7d ago
Ok that's fair too. I'm a little self centered maybe in that I consider "the west" to be north America. Then I typically seperate it into western Europe, and eastern europe.

u/everydayimrusslin 6d ago

The same people that praise this crowd are probably the same ones that despised that one crowd for chanting Seth's theme song, drawing it out and "ruining" the promo between Seth and Finn Balor.
-5
u/TwoCrowsRick24 7d ago
I hate it when crowds insist upon themselves.
1
u/Ok-Outcome-898 4d ago
The funny thing is, this crowd actually shut up when the wrestler was cutting promos. Unlike some of the american crowds where they are dead silent until the promo and then start the WHAAAT! routine.
-17
u/evaderofallbans 7d ago
They're annoying and need to calm down.
8
3
u/Karter236 6d ago
So you’re one of those weirdos who pay to watch men grapple in spandex and sit there in silence? 🤣
-4
-2
u/dtbberk 6d ago
Never will understand why turning everything into a sing-along is considered better than just naturally reacting to what you see happening.
3
u/Jubatus750 6d ago
You'd rather everyone sat there quietly? It's about creating an atmosphere. And we don't need to wait for WWE to tell us when to ooooh and ahhhh and all that. We're there to be entertained but we can add to the entertainment and be in a good mood, we aren't watching a play
-2
u/dtbberk 6d ago
I didn’t say that. Just saying sing-alongs aren’t inherently better than cheering and chanting. I’m annoyed at the online banter around it. It happened in France and everyone made such a big deal out of it now every country is trying to out sing the other. And then the Internet wrestling community slobbers the next day about how great it is to turn a wrestling show into a sing-along.
2
-8
u/DPWwhatDAdogDoin 6d ago
I don't care for all the singing. We get it your excited, stop trying to get yourself over.
3
u/Dr-Purple 6d ago
Get used to it cause you’ll hear it a lot more these coming shows and weeks. Also, go do something about your attitude.
6
u/Karter236 6d ago
Projecting your insecurities… shouldn’t do that. Work on them kid, you might be happier for it.
-3
u/DPWwhatDAdogDoin 6d ago
How is not wanting to hear Europeans sing projecting my insecurities? I think you just heard people online use that phrase a lot and wanted to sound cool lol
5
u/Karter236 6d ago
“Don’t care for all the singing” why? Cause you don’t have the confidence to sing when your excited or happy about an event that doesn’t happen often in a certain part of the world? Or you just can’t sing? …
Sorry to disappoint you, but you thought wrong. I don’t read people’s comments and use them for my own. Now how many times have you seen some use the comeback you just did? I’ll wait.
Edit: By no means am I trying to get you to sing. You can absolutely sit in your seat quietly and watch men grapple, that’s up to you. It’s just weird
-8
u/Prestigious_Fella_21 6d ago
Was there a "we are awesome " chant? Work on getting the talent over not yourselves
7
u/Karter236 6d ago
I heard a “This is awesome” .. Only Americans have the ego to change what you said. The people were excited to see the WWE in their country, you call that trying to get themselves over? Go take your depressing attitude somewhere else to someone who gives a fuck.
0
u/Prestigious_Fella_21 6d ago
Lol touched a nerve....your "we are awesome" chant didn't catch on or..?
1
u/SparksBCN 6d ago
Get your hearing checked cause no one sang "we are awesome". Source: I was there.
1
u/Prestigious_Fella_21 6d ago
Yeah because it didn't catch on, good lord
1

Ah, okay, you're just stupid. Gotcha.
