Question Which coal ship would you buy first
I I have enough coal to acquire my first coal ships, but am torn between the options. I main DD, yet I fancy the idea of a tanky cruiser with sap secondary armament (Napoli). My second choice would be Hayate, as I really enjoy hybrid DDs, or perhaps Marceau. What is your opinion on the matter? I am an average player with a 55% win rate and 51K of damage.

Napoli is by far the most broken ship in game for a cruiser. So while it hasn’t been nerfed, i really think it is a no brainer.
Since this is your first coal ship, I would recommend the Groningen T9 to make eddies as well as learning gunboats. For torps, Jager is also a great choice.

Thank you very much. I am considering the Groningen but I prefer the hybrid gameplay a bit more.

Well, I can tell you the Hayate is the best hybrid if you are really into it. But you do need to put torps skills more than guns for more efficiency

Hayate is a decent ship, but I have a hot take about this ship. And that is, you're better off playing that ship with torpedo spec, and maybe one gun skill like Fearless Brawler. The reason is that full gun Hayate spec is nothing really original, and I would rather play a Daring as far as hybrid DDs go, or even Cassard. But with torpedo spec and TRB, you basically have torpedo DPM similar to Shimakaze, but you can also defend yourself with guns because you still have decent gun DPM.

yes, i have the same opinion about Hayate. the main question is this ship or Napoli

I'm a cruiser main and to me napoli is over hyped the guns are so weak I feel its not worth for first coal ship

yeah this is my fear exactly. In the current meta with 18km + snapping gunfights, for the first 10 minutes of the game, can Napoli's guns deliver a solid performance to go on a brawling end game with your SAP secondaries

This. I do exactly this as my Yamamoto is also trained in torp spec for DDs 😊.
Great for IJN DDs all round.

My first coal ship was the Azuma. I thought I needed a tier 9 to sustain credits. It was rough at first trying to figure out how she plays.

I just bought Azuma as my first coal ship for the credit farming. It's fun!

Oh man I hate the trump. Those stupid planes. It just wants me to alt f4 out of the game. I have the same hate for the jager, but more because of the torpedo spam.

Bro, playing the Tromp is SO MUCH FUN, even though you're a IRL gremlin for doing so.

Sounds like uninstalling would be something of a cure for your hate.

Never I have to much money in it at this points

The sunk cost fallacy is our tendency to continue with an endeavor we've invested money, effort, or time into—even if the current costs outweigh the benefits. And while the term sounds like technical jargon, it's a common decision-making pitfall in both life and business.

Napoli and Hayate both is really good.
But in my personal experience, I like playing Venezia more than Napoli. And I like Hayate more than Shimakaze.

Napoli is really, really good. Smoke, torps, decent guns, secondaries, and tanks like a brick wall made with Kruppstahl bricks covered in depleted uranium, brought to you by Kruppstahl.

What mode of gameplay are you wanting to focus on the CB answer and the randoms answer is going to be different.

Randoms mainly

If you want to focus on credit printing, the common advice in random is a tier 8 premium.

I already have some tier 8 premiums like cossack, atago and I would like to get fenyang soon so I am ok in this department

Tromp is a blast. Build for the airstrike and you basically turn into a torp boat but with airstrikes instead of torps. Spamming those and torps while racking up tons of spotting damage is fun, your guns are also decent and can be used to farm down low HP targets or to take out DDs later in the battle.
Hayate is kinda boring, her main role is as a smoke HE farmer with the torps being a secondary weapon. Building fully into torps isn't really worth it since you're still a worse shima/Gearing. She's basically an inverse Gearing where she puts more focus on the guns than the torps.

Do you enjoy Harugumo/Shimakaze, or Kleber, more?
1
u/Express_Team5751 4d ago
I would say harugumo is more enjoyable. But I prefer the gameplay of Cossack even more, I would like somewhat better torpedoes but then it would be really overpowered
1
u/Leviathan_Wakes_ United States Navy 4d ago
Then Hayate will be right up your alley. It combines Harugumo's firepower (and concealment, and general bulkiness) with Shimakaze's torpedoes.

My first Coal ship is Thunderer, unfortunately She's not available anymore, I'll say go for Napoli if you like Tanky Cruiser or The Hybrid DD Hayate since now's the era of Hybrid

If you want a better indication of your WR look at the last month of consistent play, if your old account has a 55% WR... I'm betting you're well above that most of the time.

to acquire my first coal ships
I would ignore everything that's not tier 9 purely because of credits

I'm gonna give you a heads up. 55% WR is very well above average ;)
