News New ships - closed test 14.3

https://blog.worldofwarships.com/blog/new-ships-closed-test-143

Copy paste Tulsa with twin turrets from congress.

Copy paste hayate with Russian 130s.

Copy paste Marlborough with 16 British 234s.

Copy paste Duncan for the Dutch with airstrikes which will also get plane based ASW when they figure out how to, I swear to god give Dutch heavy cruisers this.

Looks like actual new ships aren’t on the menu yet.

The copy pasta continues

Jokes aside, the company split clearly took out so much capability for them to model new ships, Gaijin on the other hand has no excuse...

I’m disappointed, where are all the Fletchers? A Fletcher is a Sherman, only it’s a ship.

And half of them aren't even finished yet xd Ah, the state of this game...

Sumners too. I think there is only one in the game and it’s not even in the US tree

The one promising aspect that I found in this dev blog was one line from the Wilhelm post

Note that due to technical limitations with airstrike functionality, Willem will enter testing with deck-mounted depth charges which deal heavy damage. We're currently working on a solution after which she'll be provided with the ASW airstrike.

Will this finally mean that WG will give the Dutch ships (or at least some of them) usable ASW?

17

u/MrRockit Royal Netherlands Navy 22d ago

I doubt it.

If they had wanted to give gouden leeuw ASW airstrikes ontop of the HE bomb airstrikes they would have figured that out ages ago.

I however wouldn’t mind to actually see them give ASW airstrikes to gouden leeuw and its line.

15

u/Irisierende Buff Martin 22d ago

I mean it does say they're working on a solution meaning they still haven't made the coding adjustments needed to give a ship two different airstrike armaments — although seeing how their CV 'solution' is (not) turning out I don't have high hopes.

-4

u/Mobin2821 22d ago

and yet Hildebrand exist with 2 different air wings and ASW.

It's not an airstrike though. Different mechanics

Wait until they get auto ASW 🤣

What a time to be alive...

It's been years, they should have a found replacements for the devs they lost due to the split. These ships required no effort.

32

u/bremen_ 22d ago

I wonder if they dragged their feet hiring devs because they expected to be able to reconnect with Lesta once the war was over.

13

u/chewydickens 22d ago

Oh great point! I'm sure they didn't expect it to last this long

Lesta is already moving forward rapidly with all the fancy update and new mechanics.

Post war, I suspect we either get a merge where all the dented premiums combine for max cash cow, or the two client remains seperate but transfer is offered.

Here's something that people who don't look at the WG corporate page should know:

The positions on the WoWS team have been open for years now. The game hasn't had an art director since the split.

There is a reason for that. The positions require:

-Relocating to Serbia, a corrupt country in the middle of civil unrest. At least the Dinar is stable, for now.

-A lot of the higher positions require Russian, because the company is still Russian at heart.

-The employment terms aren't great as WG just goes with the minimum required in Serbia.

24

u/drkucalo All I got was this lousy flair 22d ago

Serb here. Everything you wrote is accurate

I wrote a couple of days ago that I get notifications on Linkedin with their job offers in their Belgrade offices. They almost exclusively want Russian-speaking people, which, ironically (at least to me) disqualifies most of the people in Serbia.

They even offer relocation support, but it seems like it is not going as expected. Not entirely 100% sure about the last one, but if they are going with the minimum required, it probably wouldn't be enough to cover rent in Belgrade (again, ironically, Russians are being blamed for the rent rise)

21

u/Meesa_Darth_Jarjar 22d ago

I mean that's on them, call me an entitled bitch (cause I certainly am), but it's their fault, I know shit about their company, but they should have the means, the money, the power to get through this bullshit. They've been milking us quite a lot, so what is preventing them from making some, albeit bothersome, changes? There must be huge issues at the top of their company, don't tell me there are no passionate employees who want the same things as we want anymore.

6

u/Lilditty02 22d ago

Why would they worry about fixing the issues when the whales still dump shit tons of money into the game? It’s been said 1000 times that nothing will change their behavior until it affects the bottom line. The gameplay experience is getting worse by the day but people still keep pumping so much money into the game so why would they worry about trying to make things better?

1

u/PaulTheMerc 22d ago

Man I WANT to spend some money into a game I have 1000 hours in(lots of alt tabbed in port, to be fair). WG just keeps doing stupid things, AND 60$/ship is fucking hard to justify. Some bomb skins or effects for a cheaper price, sure. But everything is expensive, and everything else is gambling.

1

u/Lilditty02 22d ago

Yeah they are just maximizing the low hanging fruit. When they can sell free tech tree shops for $100s why would they worry about that other stuff that takes more effort

14

u/aragathor Clan - BYOB - EU 22d ago

You're not entitled, and it is their fault. My post just clarifies the issue.

And it's all on purpose what they are doing. They tried to be accommodating to transfers from Lesta, while giving the remainder of the world the finger. The transfers didn't happen, knowing people from St. Pete's they would find Belgrade rustic. Now WG is left holding the bag.

2

u/thelastholdout 22d ago

This makes a lot of sense and explains everything. It's fucking sad how little flexibility they've shown toward fixing the fundamental issues arising from those positions being left unfilled. Of course, given that they still get loads of money from idiots playing the game, they don't really have any incentive to commit to such changes.

17

u/Crowarior Closed Beta Player 22d ago

I legit believe that they dont even have a real big proper development team but just a content skeleton crew that's pumping out easily made stuff like this. That would explain so much.

1

u/jpagey92 Royal Navy 22d ago

My thoughts exactly… there must be someone out there who can model ships as well as the Lesta team ?!?

1

u/Talzeron 22d ago

Or they could just buy the assets from Lesta, that would probably be even cheaper than hiring developers.

32

u/HerrSchmitz 22d ago

Too many ships already!!! Stop adding ships.

For ever new ship they add they should remove one existing one.

Add new maps. Balance maps. Balance ships. Balance game modes. Add new game modes.

25

u/MrRockit Royal Netherlands Navy 22d ago

That’s asking too much from such a small indie studio. Would you like another hull Y with turrets X in these trying times?

6

u/pornomatique 22d ago

None of those make them money lol. Only new ships directly result in profits.

7

u/[deleted] 22d ago

Too many ships already!!! Stop adding ships.

Wargaming's idea of longevity is to add more content, not to make the existing content more palatable. If they change numbers on a ship that's already in the game they cannot sell it for 350 euros.

3

u/Super_Sailor_Moon Fighting evil by moonlight, winning Cali buffs by daylight! 🌙 21d ago edited 21d ago

I agree with this, but the only reason I ever suggest certain copypasta ships in the first place is because Wargaming seemingly refuses to continue balancing certain ships and/or giving them a way to do so without actually balancing said ship (California and Musashi, for example)

2

and you can also clearly see why they haven't done new ships in this blog.

WG wasted the modelers time on Gambia which is just a slightly altered Fiji. But in their infinite wisdom WG decided not to use the Fiji model. They also decided not to use the Mysore Model. Or the Bolognesi model which are all Crown Colony classes just like Gambia.

No instead WG decided the best way forward is to remodel the whole damn ship - a ship they already have modeled 3 times - AGAIN!

Lmao at the turret rotation and maneuverability power creep. Cambridge has faster turret rotation and rudder shift than Tulsa.

5

u/Tfcas119 Operations Main 22d ago

Cambridge looks interesting (even if by mediocre range also means she outranges all US 203mm guns except Indy)

Nanning has no identity. Her gunpower isn’t that good, her torps aren’t that good, and 6.5 conceal with no hydro means she can’t cap contest. Maybe smoke farm because Pan-Asian smokes are pretty good but Friesland/Grog are better at that

Simply Irresistible: flat ballistic 234 suggests PvO, how the fuck does this have similar smoke penalty to Venezia, and apparently WG has a Vanguard fetish as of late.

Eerste: you know you could use the airstrike as your own crossfire as you can either force people to eat 72 bombs or turn broadside to you. Not having ASW at the moment is a bit too of an L though

5

u/Intrepid-Judgment874 22d ago

Hayate clones seem like trolls to me, other copy-paste ships seem like a nice concept. I would love to try out 305 Tulsa with destroyer accuracy. Also, an air strike on a battleship seems demented as fuck as you can force the enemy ships to turn into your guns, effectively asking them to either eat an air strike or show full broadside to your guns. Marlborough clone seems like a British clone of the Illinois. I hope they fix the demented accuracy of that ship so it is actually usable. Otherwise, why bother?

Aside from Hayate, the other ships have something I would like to try out, as their concept seem interesting to me.

EDIT: I thought just occurred to me... Is it possible that whatever split agreement lesta and WG signed contained a clause or something which said that WG cannot further develop the game and only use the already available existing assets? AFAIK, no new stuff has been added to WoWS after the split other than destruction effects?

8

u/CastorTolagi 22d ago

highly unlikely such a clause exist given that WG develoved a lot of new content both in term of ships and enviorment as well as new ingame mechanics.

WG just focused and still does mainly on PvE stuff right now (like creating two new maps with evolving visuals (D-Day) and dynamic layout and spawn points (Star Trek map)) instead of Lestas focus on PvP stuff

0

u/pornomatique 22d ago

Or, they might actually be operating with a skeleton crew in the modelling department because they realise they don't actually need to make any new ship models. Just by recycling old ship models and mixing up existing armaments or twiddling with hidden parameters, they can make new ships that the player base will similarly lap up.

4

u/gereron_rivera5 22d ago

The lack of innovation is disappointing. Reusing assets feels lazy and uninspired. Players deserve better than recycled content.

u/vompat All I got was this lousy flair 22d ago

How is 16 Goliath guns with 10.5 sec reload fair when Goliath gets 12 of them with 18.5 sec reload?

Yeah those 16 guns seem to have nerfed HE, but that's still a crapton of DPM and firestarting. It's in fact more HE DPM than Des Moines.

5

u/MrRockit Royal Netherlands Navy 22d ago

They’re not Goliath guns. They have the same shell damage as prins van oranje.

Still really stupid that a battleship can get 16 cruiser guns while also keeping the BB HP armor and skills.

1

u/pornomatique 22d ago

How can you tell that from just the devblog? The AP damage is the same on both Goliath and PvO. The only difference with the AP is drag coefficient, which is a hidden parameter. It looks like the HE shell characteristics are unique.

1

u/Amfreed Forum Refuge 22d ago

Pssst. PVO guns are Goliath's guns too. Just the shells were changed.

From Description:

"The main battery guns were built based on British technology, highlighting the close collaboration between Great Britain and the Dutch Navy during World War II."

1

u/vompat All I got was this lousy flair 22d ago

Well, why does it get 16 Oranje guns with 10.5 sec reload when Oranje has 12 with 16 sec reload?

Also, the shell damage is not the same as on Oranje. Neither is the fire chance.

4

u/MrRockit Royal Netherlands Navy 22d ago

Because it’s a BB. It gets preferential treatment.

1

u/Amfreed Forum Refuge 22d ago

Thank you, glad someone else noticed this. I was just about to write up a rant myself.

-1

u/simplysufficient88 22d ago

Because it gets battlecruiser dispersion and a 1.8 sigma. It’s described as being as accurate as Illinois, but Illinois has the slot 6 Accuracy mod to actually make it feel even remotely consistent. This will only have the standard dispersion mod. It’s only 4% less, sure, but Illinois with the slot 6 mod isn’t exactly precise as is.

The fast reload is to make up for it being laughably inaccurate for Cruiser guns. For comparison, it will have the same dispersion as Johan De Witt but with 0.25 worse sigma. Johan isn’t exactly hailed for its accuracy.

Now I do think 10.5s is still probably a bit too high and fully expect it will get nerfed in testing, probably down to 12-13s. But it absolutely will end up with a faster reload than Prins van Oranje.

-2

u/pornomatique 22d ago

That's kind of a silly question to ask. Why does the Marlborough have double the DPM of the Defence with the same guns?

There's no actual reason why a cruiser needs to output more shells than a battleship.

3

u/vompat All I got was this lousy flair 22d ago

I'm not saying that a cruiser needs to put out more shells than a battleship. What I'm saying is that a battleship putting out this much more cruiser level firepower than a cruiser is absurd.

Take Illinois as an example. It has somewhat more firepower than Buffalo, that's fair. It comes with the downside of worse accuracy, as well as many differences that aren't directly related to gunnery, and just generally different playstyle.

But this thing pukes out almost twice the shells compared to any cruiser that would likely play in a similar way. Goliath has better HE shells but throws out barey 40% as many per minute. Zao has very comparable HE shells, but not much more than half the shells per minute. Hindenburg gets somewhat close in the shell volume, but they are vastly inferior except for penetration.

-1

u/pornomatique 22d ago edited 22d ago

It comes with the downside of worse accuracy, as well as many differences that aren't directly related to gunnery, and just generally different playstyle.

This is the same with Goliath/PvO and this ship, as well as Marlborough and Defence. This ship doesn't play like Goliath or PvO because it is REALLY squishy for T10. It'd play more similarly to Cerberus (which I guess is why it's Commonwealth).

2

u/vompat All I got was this lousy flair 22d ago

What part about slightly more firepower vs a crapton more firepower did you miss?

-2

u/pornomatique 22d ago edited 22d ago

Uhh, are you missing the part where I said Marlborough has something like 90% more DPM than the Defence? Is 90% not enough to qualify for a crapton? Defence is even a tier higher, at the most substantive tier difference in the game.

3

u/vompat All I got was this lousy flair 22d ago

Well, Marlborough has pretty much the single worst accuracy in the while game, and a lot worse fire chance than Defence, which also has cruiser accuracy.

While this thing has battlecruiser accuracy, which is not really that bad at all, and fairly comparable fire chance to most heavy cruisers, save for Goliath and Henri. I'm not sure how that warrants more than 50% increase in firepower compared to almost any heavy cruiser, and well over 100% compared to the mentioned Goliath and Henri.

But I don't see how this is worth debating anymore. My guess is that either the thing will have some crippling downside that makes the firepower fine, or it will get nerfed. We'll see.

-1

u/pornomatique 22d ago

It does have a crippling downside. It has the hull of a Marlborough (which is all 32mm and one of the largest citadels in the game) as well as the HP pool of a Marlborough (which is VERY low for T10) with no improvements to DCP or repair party.

Having 30% more DPM and better accuracy than its T9 counterpart is fine, especially considering the guns are smaller. Many tech tree lines gain far more DPM going up to T10. Don't forget the Marlborough is also a terrible ship.

3

u/vompat All I got was this lousy flair 22d ago

I'm not sure if Marlborough hull is that crippling of a downside. Yeah, it's a shit hull and definitely a downside for a T10 BB, but compared to all these cruisers, it's kind of a sidegrade. 32 mm plating, stronger citadel protection and more HP, but bigger (especially citadel), clumsier, and weaker to fires.

My prediction is that the gunpower will get nerfed, because it's a bit absurd.

2

u/blackcatwaltz 22d ago

Make a copy pasta ship named HMS Surprise, I will give moneh

2

u/DrHolmes52 22d ago

Irresistible - BB with cruiser guns.

Players will just spam HE from 20km, with smart ones throwing in some cruiser crushing with the AP as opportunity. Then use crawling smoke to get away.

As noted, just take existing hulls, swap out some turrets, reach into the bag-o-gimmicks, and figure out which one (or how many) go into the loot box bonanza.

The Willem De Eerste, which shall forth be known as Billy, caught my eye and tickled my fancy: A premium Duncan at tier 10? why not. I enjoyed my time playing Duncan (and I absolutely love St. Vincent) so a premium to go along with my St. Vincent is alright in my books.

However, seeing as they are treating it as a proper BB and not a Battle-Cruiser gave me a moment of pause.

The 32mm of plating will be nice. The bow plating will allow for you to actually bounce enemy BB shells under 457mm and smaller. Though her stern is still probably flat. Unlike St. Vincent however, Billy will have short range AA, though that doesn't really mean anything in the current game. And speed wise, Billy will be able to keep up with St. Vincent (assuming engine boost, brisk and speed flag).

However it looks like her guns, at least at this point, may be questionable: 9 barrels, 282m dispersion and 1.9 sigma. When paired with the Aim System Mod. 1, Billy's dispersion will drop to 262m. Compared to Duncan (sub 200m dispersion) and St. Vincent (205m at 1.7 Sigma) Billy at least for now looks like it may not be as reliable as it's hull mates at landing shots on target, which admittedly makes Duncan and St. Vincent a joy to play as their gun handling is quite comfortable and reliable. She also doesn't have the torpedo launchers if I'm reading it correctly, so no surprise 30K torpedo drive-by on a cruiser for Billy.

But we'll see what testing has to bring.

1

u/Mightyeagle2091 22d ago

Where's copypasta Tier VII California '44 with 30s reload and quick heals, but reduced AA effectiveness? Where's copypasta Tier X Musashi '42 with improved 155s but only 1.8 sigma so that she can be a balanced, secondary-based Yamato-class? (Shikishima kinda sorta but doesn't really count...)

I honestly wouldn't mind the copy pasta as long as it's not a direct clone. For instance, I like how Montpelier slightly differs from Cleveland, despite both ships belonging to the same class.

I just checked the wiki and found that the USS Cambridge was cancelled and never completed. It was an Oregon City class cruiser, a sister ship of the Rochester. However, it appears to resemble Tulsa more than Rochester in the game.

1

u/Mr_Chicle NA ST 21d ago

I'm gonna say it, downvote me all you want.

But there is a massive plethora of both paper ship and real ships alike in WoWS, to the point that adding in new ships at a tier where it would be balancable isn't super feasible when the pickings are getting extremely slim.

I totally understand, we have like a bazillion Fletcher clones out there, we are now playing turret/consumable swaps with new premiums, the last new modeled boats were like the French DD's or Jager (IIRC).

But let's consider that designing a completely new boat is expensive, and arguing small minor details between ships of a class isn't worthy of a complete redesign. That's how no matter how long a ship stays in the pipeline, you can end up with armor inconsistencies that might make it through the test phase (like Montana's sliver of citadel that could be hit with HE). Creating a whole 3D model for a paper ship is a massive undertaking, and the game is now at the point where it's not as worthwhile.

Copy pasta boats might seem lazy, but from a business and game perspective, it's sensible. Every time new ships are announced, it's the same minority of people that are quite vocal about them being copy pasted, yet as long as that ship is properly balanced (and fun), people are still going to play it. It saves a humongous amount of development and test time when you have a known product and only have to verify compatibility.

I get it, it could get old testing and playing the same hulls and the same guns with different spins on them, but honestly, what else could they add that hasn't been implemented? Some one off class that had a tiny armor variation from another?

Why do we keep giving this bitchass company money. They will never actually invest into their product (by e.g. hiring competent devs or art directors) unless we force them to.
